8 «En el tercer año del reinado de Belsasar yo, Daniel, tuve una visión, después de la que ya había tenido. 2 En ella me veía en la ciudad de Susa, en la provincia de Elam, junto al río Ulay. 3 Me fijé y vi ante mí un carnero con sus dos cuernos. Estaba junto al río y tenía cuernos largos. Uno de ellos era más largo y le había salido después. 4 Me quedé observando cómo el carnero atacaba hacia el oeste, hacia el norte y hacia el sur. Ningún animal podía hacerle frente ni había tampoco quien pudiera librarse de su poder. El carnero hacía lo que quería y cada vez cobraba más fuerza.
5 »Mientras reflexionaba yo al respecto, de pronto, surgió del oeste un macho cabrío, que tenía un cuerno enorme entre los ojos. Cruzó toda la tierra sin tocar siquiera el suelo. 6 Luego se lanzó contra el carnero de los dos cuernos que yo había visto de pie junto al río y lo atacó furiosamente. 7 Yo vi cómo se acercó enfurecido, lo golpeó y le rompió los dos cuernos. El carnero no pudo hacerle frente, pues el macho cabrío lo derribó y lo pisoteó. Nadie pudo librar al carnero del poder del macho cabrío. 8 El macho cabrío cobró gran fuerza, pero en el momento de su mayor grandeza se le rompió el gran cuerno. En su lugar brotaron cuatro grandes cuernos que se alzaron contra los cuatro vientos del cielo.
9 »De uno de ellos salió otro cuerno, pequeño al principio, que extendió su poder hacia el sur, hacia el este y hacia la Tierra Hermosa. 10 Creció hasta alcanzar al ejército de los cielos e hizo caer a tierra algunos del ejército de las estrellas y los pisoteó. 11 Y creció hasta pretender ser tan grande como el comandante del ejército del Señor. Por su causa, se eliminó el sacrificio diario y se derribó el santuario. 12 Por la rebelión, le fueron entregados el ejército y el sacrificio diario; derribó la verdad, hizo cuanto quiso y en todo tuvo éxito.
13 »Escuché entonces que uno de los santos hablaba y que otro le preguntaba: “¿Cuánto tiempo va a tardar lo anunciado en esta visión: el sacrificio diario, la rebeldía desoladora, la entrega del santuario y la humillación del ejército?”.
14 »Y aquel santo me dijo: “Va a tardar dos mil trescientas tardes y mañanas. Después de eso, se purificará el santuario”.
Significado de la visión
15 »Mientras yo, Daniel, contemplaba la visión y trataba de entenderla, de repente apareció ante mí alguien de apariencia humana. 16 Escuché entonces una voz que desde el río Ulay gritaba: “¡Gabriel, dile a este hombre lo que significa la visión!”.
17 »Cuando él se acercó al lugar donde estaba, me aterroricé y caí rostro en tierra. Me dijo: “Hijo de hombre entiende que la visión se refiere al tiempo del fin”.
18 »Mientras me hablaba, yo estaba aturdido, con el rostro en tierra. Entonces me tocó y me puso de pie. 19 Y me dijo: “Voy a darte a conocer lo que sucederá después cuando llegue a su fin el tiempo de la ira de Dios, porque el fin llegará en el momento señalado. 20 El carnero de dos cuernos que has visto simboliza a los reyes de Media y de Persia. 21 El macho cabrío es el rey de Grecia y el cuerno grande que tiene entre los ojos es el primer rey. 22 Los cuatro cuernos que salieron en lugar del que fue hecho pedazos simbolizan a los cuatro reinos que surgirán de esa nación, pero que no tendrán el mismo poder.
23 »”Hacia el final de esos reinos, cuando la rebelión de los impíos llegue al colmo, surgirá un rey de aspecto feroz, maestro de la intriga, 24 que llegará a tener mucho poder, pero no por sí mismo. Ese rey causará impresionantes destrozos y saldrá airoso en todo lo que emprenda. Destruirá a los poderosos y al pueblo santo. 25 Con su astucia propagará el engaño, creyéndose un ser superior. Destruirá a mucha gente que creía estar segura, y se enfrentará al Príncipe de los príncipes, pero será destruido sin intervención humana.
26 »”La visión de las tardes y mañanas que se te ha dado a conocer es verdadera. Pero mantenla en secreto, pues para eso falta mucho tiempo”.
27 »Yo, Daniel, quedé exhausto y estuve enfermo durante varios días. Luego me levanté para seguir atendiendo los asuntos del reino. Pero la visión me dejó pasmado, pues no lograba comprenderla».

8 «Durante el tercer año del reinado de Belsasar, yo, Daniel, tuve otra visión, además de la que antes había tenido. 2 Durante la visión, me parecía estar en la ciudadela de Susa, en la provincia de Elam, a orillas del río Ulai. 3 Miré a lo lejos, y vi un carnero que estaba a la orilla del río. Tenía dos cuernos altos, pero uno de ellos le había salido más tarde y era más alto que el otro. 4 Vi que el carnero embestía con sus cuernos hacia el oeste, el norte y el sur, y que ningún otro animal podía hacerle frente ni librarse de sus golpes. Hacía lo que mejor le parecía, y cada vez era más fuerte.
5 »Todavía estaba yo pensando en lo que había visto, cuando me di cuenta de que un chivo venía del oeste, corriendo tan deprisa que ni siquiera tocaba el suelo. Este chivo tenía un gran cuerno entre los ojos, 6 y cuando llegó cerca del carnero de dos cuernos, que yo había visto junto al río, lo embistió con todas sus fuerzas 7 y le rompió sus dos cuernos, sin que el carnero tuviera fuerzas para enfrentarse con él. Después el chivo derribó por tierra al carnero y lo pisoteó, sin que nadie pudiera salvarlo.
8 »El chivo se hacía cada vez más fuerte, pero en el momento en que más poder tenía, su gran cuerno se rompió, y en su lugar le salieron cuatro cuernos que apuntaban hacia los cuatro vientos. 9 De uno de ellos salió otro cuerno pequeño, que creció mucho hacia el sur, hacia el este y hacia la Tierra de la Hermosura. 10 Tanto creció que llegó hasta el ejército del cielo, derribó parte de las estrellas y las pisoteó, 11 y aun llegó a desafiar al jefe mismo de ese ejército; suprimió el sacrificio diario y profanó el lugar de adoración. 12 Perversamente hizo que su ejército acampara donde antes se ofrecía el sacrificio, y echó por los suelos la verdad. Hizo, en fin, todo cuanto quiso, y en todo tuvo éxito.
13 »Después oí que un ángel le preguntaba a otro ángel: “¿Cuándo va a terminar esto que se ve en el altar del sacrificio diario? ¿Cuánto va a durar el horrible pecado de entregar el santuario del Señor y los creyentes en él, para ser pisoteados?” 14 Y la respuesta fue: “Hasta dos mil trescientas tardes y mañanas. Después de eso, el santuario será purificado.”
15 «Mientras yo, Daniel, contemplaba esta visión y trataba de comprender su significado, apareció de repente delante de mí una figura parecida a un hombre, 16 y oí una voz humana que venía del río Ulai, la cual decía: “Gabriel, explícale a este hombre la visión.”
17 »Entonces él se me acercó. Yo me asusté, y me incliné hasta tocar el suelo con la frente, pero él me dijo: “Hijo de hombre, ten en cuenta que esta visión se refiere al final de los tiempos.”
18 »Mientras él me estaba hablando, yo me desmayé y quedé tendido en el suelo; pero él me tocó, hizo que me pusiera de pie, 19 y me dijo:
»“Voy a explicarte lo que va a pasar cuando termine el tiempo de la ira de Dios, pues la visión se refiere al tiempo del fin.
20 »”El carnero con dos cuernos representa a los reyes de Media y de Persia. 21 El chivo es el rey de Grecia, y el gran cuerno que tiene entre los ojos es el primer rey. 22 Los cuatro cuernos que salieron cuando el primer cuerno se rompió, significan que de esta nación saldrán cuatro reinos más, pero no con el poder del primero.
23 »”Cuando el dominio de estos reinos llegue a su fin
y las maldades hayan llegado al colmo,
un rey insolente y astuto ocupará el poder.
24 Llegará a ser poderoso,
pero no con su propio poder;
destruirá de manera increíble
y triunfará en todo lo que haga.
Destruirá a hombres poderosos
y también a muchos del pueblo de Dios.
25 Por su astucia,
sus engaños triunfarán.
Se llenará de orgullo,
y a mucha gente que vivía confiada
le quitará la vida a traición.
Hará frente al príncipe de príncipes,
pero será destruido por él.
26 »”La visión de las tardes y las mañanas te ha sido revelada, y es verdadera; pero tú manténla en secreto, pues se cumplirá cuando haya pasado mucho tiempo.”
27 »Yo, Daniel, sentí que me faltaban las fuerzas, y estuve enfermo varios días. Después me levanté y seguí atendiendo los asuntos del gobierno de la nación. Pero estaba yo muy preocupado por la visión que había tenido, pues no podía comprenderla.

8 In the third year of the reign of king Belshazzar a vision appeared unto me, even unto me Daniel, after that which appeared unto me at the first.
2 And I saw in a vision; and it came to pass, when I saw, that I was at Shushan in the palace, which is in the province of Elam; and I saw in a vision, and I was by the river of Ulai.
3 Then I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, there stood before the river a ram which had two horns: and the two horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher came up last.
4 I saw the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward; so that no beasts might stand before him, neither was there any that could deliver out of his hand; but he did according to his will, and became great.
5 And as I was considering, behold, an he goat came from the west on the face of the whole earth, and touched not the ground: and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes.
6 And he came to the ram that had two horns, which I had seen standing before the river, and ran unto him in the fury of his power.
7 And I saw him come close unto the ram, and he was moved with choler against him, and smote the ram, and brake his two horns: and there was no power in the ram to stand before him, but he cast him down to the ground, and stamped upon him: and there was none that could deliver the ram out of his hand.
8 Therefore the he goat waxed very great: and when he was strong, the great horn was broken; and for it came up four notable ones toward the four winds of heaven.
9 And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land.
10 And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them.
11 Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of the sanctuary was cast down.
12 And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered.
13 Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?
14 And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.
15 And it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision, and sought for the meaning, then, behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man.
16 And I heard a man's voice between the banks of Ulai, which called, and said, Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision.
17 So he came near where I stood: and when he came, I was afraid, and fell upon my face: but he said unto me, Understand, O son of man: for at the time of the end shall be the vision.
18 Now as he was speaking with me, I was in a deep sleep on my face toward the ground: but he touched me, and set me upright.
19 And he said, Behold, I will make thee know what shall be in the last end of the indignation: for at the time appointed the end shall be.
20 The ram which thou sawest having two horns are the kings of Media and Persia.
21 And the rough goat is the king of Grecia: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king.
22 Now that being broken, whereas four stood up for it, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not in his power.
23 And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.
24 And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people.
25 And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.
26 And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days.
27 And I Daniel fainted, and was sick certain days; afterward I rose up, and did the king's business; and I was astonished at the vision, but none understood it.

2 Då jag nu i denna syn såg till, tyckte jag mig vara i Susans borg i hövdingdömet Elam; och då jag vidare såg till i synen, fann jag mig vara vid floden Ulai.
3 Och när jag lyfte upp mina ögon, fick jag se en vädur stå framför floden, och han hade två horn; och båda hornen voro höga, men det ena var högre än det andra, och detta som var högre sköt sist upp.
4 Jag såg väduren stöta med hornen västerut och norrut och söderut, och intet djur kunde stå honom emot, och ingen kunde rädda ur hans våld; han for fram såsom han ville och företog sig stora ting.
5 Och när jag vidare gav akt, fick jag se en bock komma västerifrån och gå fram över hela jorden, dock utan att röra vid jorden; och bocken hade ett ansenligt horn i pannan.
6 Och han nalkades väduren med de båda hornen, den som jag hade sett stå framför floden, och sprang emot honom i väldig vrede.
7 Jag såg honom komma ända inpå väduren och störta över honom i förbittring, och han stötte till väduren och krossade hans båda horn, så att väduren icke hade någon kraft att stå emot honom. Sedan slog han honom till jorden och trampade på honom; och ingen fanns, som kunde rädda väduren ur hans våld.
8 Och bocken företog sig mycket stora ting. Men när han hade blivit som starkast, brast det stora hornet sönder, och fyra andra ansenliga horn sköto upp i dess ställe, åt himmelens fyra väderstreck.
9 Och från ett av dem gick ut ett nytt horn, i begynnelsen litet, och det växte övermåttan söderut och österut och åt »det härliga landet» till.
10 Och det växte ända upp till himmelens härskara och kastade några av denna härskara, av stjärnorna, ned till jorden och trampade på dem.
11 Ja, till och med mot härskarornas furste företog han sig stora ting: han tog bort ifrån honom det dagliga offret, och hans helgedoms boning slogs ned.
12 Jämte det dagliga offret bliver ock en härskara prisgiven, för överträdelses skull. Och det slår sanningen ned till jorden och lyckas väl i vad det företager sig.
13 Sedan hörde jag en av de heliga tala, och en annan helig frågade denne som talade: »Huru lång tid avser synen om det dagliga offret, och om överträdelsen som kommer åstad förödelse, och om förtrampandet av både helgedom och härskara?»
14 Då svarade han mig: »Två tusen tre hundra aftnar och morgnar; därefter skall helgedomen komma till sin rätt igen.»
15 När nu jag, Daniel, hade sett denna syn och sökte att förstå den, fick jag se en som såg ut såsom en man stå framför mig.
16 Och mitt över Ulai hörde jag rösten av en människa som ropade och sade: »Gabriel, uttyd synen för denne.»
17 Då kom han intill platsen där jag stod, men jag blev förskräckt, när han kom, och föll ned på mitt ansikte. Och han sade till mig: »Giv akt härpå, du människobarn; ty synen syftar på ändens tid.»
18 Medan han så talade med mig, låg jag i vanmakt, med mitt ansikte mot jorden; men han rörde vid mig och reste upp mig igen.
19 Därefter sade han: »Se, jag vill kungöra för dig vad som skall ske, när det lider mot slutet med vreden ty på ändens tid syftar detta.
20 Väduren som du såg, han med de två hornen, betyder Mediens och Persiens konungar.
21 Men bocken är Javans konung, och det stora hornet i hans panna är den förste konungen.
22 Men att det brast sönder, och att fyra andra uppstodo i dess ställe, det betyder att fyra riken skola uppstå av hans folk, dock icke jämlika med honom i kraft.
23 Och vid slutet av deras välde, när överträdarna hava fyllt sitt mått, skall en fräck och arglistig konung uppstå;
24 han skall bliva stor i kraft, dock icke jämlik med den förre i kraft och han skall komma åstad så stort fördärv att man måste förundra sig; och han skall lyckas väl och få fullborda sitt uppsåt. Ja, han skall fördärva många, och jämväl de heligas folk.
25 Därigenom att han är så klok, skall han lyckas så väl med sitt svek, han skall föresätta sig stora ting, oförtänkt skall han fördärva många. Ja, mot furstarnas furste skall han sätta sig upp; men utan människohand skall han då varda krossad.
26 Och synen angående aftnarna och morgnarna, varom nu är talat, är sanning. Men göm du den synen, ty den syftar på en avlägsen framtid.»
27 Men jag, Daniel, blev maktlös och låg sjuk en tid. Sedan stod jag upp och förrättade min tjänst hos konungen; och jag var häpen över synen, men ingen förstod den.

Daniel’s Vision of a Ram and a Goat
8 In the third year of King Belshazzar’s(A) reign, I, Daniel, had a vision,(B) after the one that had already appeared to me. 2 In my vision I saw myself in the citadel of Susa(C) in the province of Elam;(D) in the vision I was beside the Ulai Canal. 3 I looked up,(E) and there before me was a ram(F) with two horns, standing beside the canal, and the horns were long. One of the horns was longer than the other but grew up later. 4 I watched the ram as it charged toward the west and the north and the south. No animal could stand against it, and none could rescue from its power.(G) It did as it pleased(H) and became great.
5 As I was thinking about this, suddenly a goat with a prominent horn between its eyes came from the west, crossing the whole earth without touching the ground. 6 It came toward the two-horned ram I had seen standing beside the canal and charged at it in great rage. 7 I saw it attack the ram furiously, striking the ram and shattering its two horns. The ram was powerless to stand against it; the goat knocked it to the ground and trampled on it,(I) and none could rescue the ram from its power.(J) 8 The goat became very great, but at the height of its power the large horn was broken off,(K) and in its place four prominent horns grew up toward the four winds of heaven.(L)
9 Out of one of them came another horn, which started small(M) but grew in power to the south and to the east and toward the Beautiful Land.(N) 10 It grew until it reached(O) the host of the heavens, and it threw some of the starry host down to the earth(P) and trampled(Q) on them. 11 It set itself up to be as great as the commander(R) of the army of the Lord;(S) it took away the daily sacrifice(T) from the Lord, and his sanctuary was thrown down.(U) 12 Because of rebellion, the Lord’s people[a] and the daily sacrifice were given over to it. It prospered in everything it did, and truth was thrown to the ground.(V)
13 Then I heard a holy one(W) speaking, and another holy one said to him, “How long will it take for the vision to be fulfilled(X)—the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, the rebellion that causes desolation, the surrender of the sanctuary and the trampling underfoot(Y) of the Lord’s people?”
14 He said to me, “It will take 2,300 evenings and mornings; then the sanctuary will be reconsecrated.”(Z)
The Interpretation of the Vision
15 While I, Daniel, was watching the vision(AA) and trying to understand it, there before me stood one who looked like a man.(AB) 16 And I heard a man’s voice from the Ulai(AC) calling, “Gabriel,(AD) tell this man the meaning of the vision.”(AE)
17 As he came near the place where I was standing, I was terrified and fell prostrate.(AF) “Son of man,”[b] he said to me, “understand that the vision concerns the time of the end.”(AG)
18 While he was speaking to me, I was in a deep sleep, with my face to the ground.(AH) Then he touched me and raised me to my feet.(AI)
19 He said: “I am going to tell you what will happen later in the time of wrath,(AJ) because the vision concerns the appointed time(AK) of the end.[c](AL) 20 The two-horned ram that you saw represents the kings of Media and Persia.(AM) 21 The shaggy goat is the king of Greece,(AN) and the large horn between its eyes is the first king.(AO) 22 The four horns that replaced the one that was broken off represent four kingdoms that will emerge from his nation but will not have the same power.
23 “In the latter part of their reign, when rebels have become completely wicked, a fierce-looking king, a master of intrigue, will arise. 24 He will become very strong, but not by his own power. He will cause astounding devastation and will succeed in whatever he does. He will destroy those who are mighty, the holy people.(AP) 25 He will cause deceit(AQ) to prosper, and he will consider himself superior. When they feel secure, he will destroy many and take his stand against the Prince of princes.(AR) Yet he will be destroyed, but not by human power.(AS)
26 “The vision of the evenings and mornings that has been given you is true,(AT) but seal(AU) up the vision, for it concerns the distant future.”(AV)
27 I, Daniel, was worn out. I lay exhausted(AW) for several days. Then I got up and went about the king’s business.(AX) I was appalled(AY) by the vision; it was beyond understanding.
