Interpretation of the Vision

¹⁵ When ^(A)I, Daniel, had seen the vision, I sought ^[a]to understand it; and behold, standing before me was one ^[b]who looked like a ^(B)man. ¹⁶ And I heard the voice of a man between the banks of Ulai, and he called out and said, “^(C)Gabriel, give this man an understanding of the vision.”

²¹ while I was still speaking in prayer, then the man ^(A)Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision ^[a]previously, ^[b]came to me ^[c]in my extreme weariness about the time of the ^(B)evening offering. ²² He gave me instruction and talked with me and said, “O Daniel, I have now come forth to give you insight with ^(C)understanding.

¹⁸ Zacharias said to the angel, “How will I know this for certain? For ^(A)I am an old man and my wife is advanced in ^[a]years.” ¹⁹ The angel answered and said to him, “I am ^(B)Gabriel, who ^[b](C)stands in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news.

Jesus’ Birth Foretold

²⁶ Now in the sixth month the angel ^(A)Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called ^(B)Nazareth, ²⁷ to ^(C)a virgin ^[a]engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, ^(D)of the ^[b]descendants of David; and the virgin’s name was ^[c]Mary.

¹² Then he said to me, “^(A)Do not be afraid, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart on understanding this and on ^(B)humbling yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response ^(C)to your words. ¹³ But the prince of the kingdom of Persia was ^[a]withstanding me for twenty-one days; then behold, ^(D)Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia.

²¹ However, I will tell you what is inscribed in the writing of ^(A)truth. Yet there is no one who ^[a]stands firmly with me against these forces except ^(B)Michael your prince.

The Time of the End

12 “Now at that time ^(A)Michael, the great prince who stands guard over the sons of your people, will arise. And there will be a ^(B)time of distress ^(C)such as never occurred since there was a nation until that time; and at that time your people, everyone who is found written in the ^(D)book, will be rescued.

⁹ But ^(A)Michael ^(B)the archangel, when he disputed with the devil and argued about ^(C)the body of Moses, did not dare pronounce against him a railing judgment, but said, “^(D)The Lord rebuke you!”

⁷ And there was war in heaven, ^(A)Michael and his angels waging war with the ^(B)dragon. The dragon and ^(C)his angels waged war, ⁸ and they were not strong enough, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven.
