Daniel 6

6 It pleased Daryavesh to set over the malchut an hundred and twenty satraps, which should be over the whole malchut;
2 (6:3) And over these three overseers, of whom Daniel was one, that the satraps might give accounts unto them, and that the king should suffer no loss.
3 (6:4) Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the overseers and satraps, because an excellent ruach was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole malchut.
4 (6:5) Then the overseers and satraps sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the malchut; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was trustworthy, neither was there any negligence or corrupt thing found in him.
5 (6:6) Then said these anashim, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the dat (law, religion) of his G-d.
6 (6:7) Then these overseers and satraps assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King Daryavesh, L’olam yicheyeh (live for ever!)
7 (6:8) All the overseers of the malchut, the administrators, and the satraps, the counselors, and the governors, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall make a petition of any g-d or man for shloshim yom (thirty days), except of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.
8 (6:9) Now, O king, establish the decree and sign the ketav (writing, document), that it cannot be changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
9 (6:10) Wherefore king Daryavesh signed the written decree.
10 (6:11) Now when Daniel knew that the ketav was signed, he went into his bais; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Yerushalayim, he kneeled down three times that day, and davened, and gave thanks before his G-d, as he had been doing before this.
11 (6:12) Then these anashim assembled, and found Daniel davening and making supplication before his G-d.
12 (6:13) Then they came near, and spoke before the king concerning the king’s decree: Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall make a petition of any g-d or man within shloshim yom, except of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be changed.
13 (6:14) Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the Bnei Golus of Yehudah, shows no regard for thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.
14 (6:15) Then the king, when he heard these words, was greatly displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him, and he did strive till the going down of the shemesh to deliver him.
15 (6:16) Then these anashim assembled unto the king, and said unto the king, Have da’as, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is, That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed.
16 (6:17) Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spoke and said unto Daniel, Elohecha (Thy G-d) whom thou servest continually, He will deliver thee.
17 (6:18) And an even (stone) was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet ring, and with the signet ring of his nobles, that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.
18 (6:19) Then the king went to his heikhal, and spent the night fasting, neither were entertainments brought before him, and his sheynah fled from him.
19 (6:20) Then the king arose very early in the boker, and went in haste unto the den of lions.
20 (6:21) And when he came to the den, he cried with an anguished voice unto Daniel; and the king spoke and said to Daniel, O Daniel, eved of HaElohim HaChai, is thy G-d, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?
21 (6:22) Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, L’olam yicheyeh (live for ever).
22 (6:23) My G-d hath sent his malach, and hath shut the lions’ mouths that they have not hurt me; forasmuch as before Him innocence was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no rah (wrong).
23 (6:24) Then was the king exceedingly glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he had emunah in his G-d.
24 (6:25) And the king commanded, and they brought those anashim which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions overpowered them, and broke all their bones in pieces before they ever came to the bottom of the den.
25 (6:26) Then king Daryavesh wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in kol ha’aretz; Shalom aleichem l’machbir (Peace be multiplied unto you).
26 (6:27) I make a decree, That in every dominion of my malchut men must tremble and fear before the G-d of Daniel, for He is HaElohim HaChai, and stedfast l’olamim (forever), and His malchut that which shall not be destroyed, and His dominion shall be even ad hasof (unto the end).
27 (6:28) He delivereth and rescueth, and He worketh otot and mofetim in Shomayim and in ha’aretz, Who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.
28 (6:29) So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Daryavesh, and in the reign of Koresh (Cyrus) the Persian.

6 Darejaves fann för gott att sätta över riket ett hundra tjugu satraper, för att sådana skulle finnas överallt i riket.
2 Och över dem satte han tre furstar, av vilka Daniel var en; inför dessa skulle satraperna avlägga räkenskap, så att konungen icke lede något men.
3 Men Daniel gjorde sig bemärkt framför de andra furstarna och satraperna, ty en övermåttan hög ande var i honom, och konungen var betänkt på att sätta honom över hela riket.
4 Då sökte de andra furstarna och satraperna att finna någon sak mot Daniel i det som angick riket. Men de kunde icke finna någon sådan sak eller något som var orätt, eftersom han var trogen i sin tjänst; ingen försummelse och intet orätt var att finna hos honom.
5 Då sade männen: »Vi lära icke finna någon sak mot denne Daniel, om vi icke till äventyrs kunna finna en sådan i hans gudsdyrkan.»
6 Därefter skyndade furstarna och satraperna in till konungen och sade till honom så: »Må du leva evinnerligen, konung Darejaves!
7 Alla rikets furstar, landshövdingarna och satraperna, rådsherrarna och ståthållarna hava rådslagit om att en kunglig förordning borde utfärdas och ett förbud stadgas, av det innehåll att vilken som helst som under trettio dagar vänder sig med bön till någon annan, vare sig gud eller människa, än till dig, o konung, han skall kastas i lejongropen.
8 Så låt nu, o konung, härom utfärda ett förbud och sätta upp en skrivelse, som efter Mediens och Persiens oryggliga lag icke kan återkallas.»
9 I överensstämmelse härmed lät då konung Darejaves sätta upp en skrivelse och utfärda ett förbud.
10 Men så snart Daniel hade fått veta att skrivelsen var uppsatt, gick han in i sitt hus, varest han i sin övre sal hade fönster som voro öppna i riktning mot Jerusalem. Där föll han tre gånger om dagen ned på sina knän och bad och tackade sin Gud, såsom han förut hade plägat göra.
11 När männen nu skyndade till, funno de Daniel bedjande och åkallande sin Gud.
12 Därefter gingo de till konungen och frågade honom angående det kungliga förbudet: »Har du icke låtit sätta upp ett förbud, av det innehåll att vilken som helst som under trettio dagar vänder sig med bön till någon annan, vare sig gud eller människa, än till dig, o konung, han skall kastas i lejongropen?» Konungen svarade och sade: »Jo, och det påbudet står fast efter Mediens och Persiens oryggliga lag.»
13 Då svarade de och sade till konungen: »Daniel, en av de judiska fångarna, aktar varken på dig eller på det förbud som du har låtit sätta upp, utan förrättar sin bön tre gånger om dagen.»
14 När konungen hörde detta, blev han mycket bedrövad och gjorde sig bekymmer över huru han skulle kunna rädda Daniel; ända till solnedgången mödade han sig med att söka en utväg att hjälpa honom.
15 Då skyndade männen till konungen och sade till honom: »Vet, o konung, att det är en Mediens och Persiens lag att intet förbud och ingen förordning som konungen utfärdar kan återkallas.»
16 Då lät konungen hämta Daniel och kasta honom i lejongropen och konungen talade till Daniel och sade: »Din Gud, den som du så oavlåtligen dyrkar, han må rädda dig.»
17 Och man förde fram en sten och lade den över gropens öppning, och konungen förseglade den med sitt eget och med sina stormäns signet, för att ingen förändring skulle kunna göras i det som nu hade skett med Daniel.
18 Därefter gick konungen hem till sitt palats och tillbragte hela natten under fasta och lät inga kvinnor komma inför sig; och sömnen flydde honom.
19 Sedan om morgonen, när det dagades, stod konungen upp och gick med hast till lejongropen.
20 Och när han hade kommit nära intill gropen, ropade han på Daniel med ängslig röst; konungen talade till Daniel och sade: »Daniel, du den levande Gudens tjänare, har väl din Gud, den som du så oavlåtligen dyrkar, kunnat rädda dig från lejonen?»
21 Då svarade Daniel konungen: »Må du leva evinnerligen, o konung!
22 Min Gud har sänt sin ängel och tillslutit lejonens gap, så att de icke hava gjort mig någon skada. Ty jag har inför honom befunnits oskyldig; ej heller har jag förbrutit mig mot dig, o konung.
23 Då blev konungen mycket glad, och befallde att man skulle taga Daniel upp ur gropen. Och när Daniel hade blivit tagen upp ur gropen, kunde man icke upptäcka någon skada på honom; ty han hade trott på sin Gud.
24 Sedan lät konungen hämta de män som hade anklagat Daniel, och han lät kasta dem i lejongropen, med deras barn och hustrur; och innan de ännu hade hunnit till bottnen i gropen, föllo lejonen över dem och krossade alla deras ben.
25 Därefter lät konung Darejaves skriva till alla folk och stammar och tungomål som funnos på hela jorden: »Mycken frid vare med eder!
26 Härmed giver jag befallning att man inom mitt rikes hela område skall bäva och frukta för Daniels Gud. Ty han är den levande Guden, som förbliver evinnerligen; och hans rike är sådant att det icke kan förstöras, och hans välde består intill änden.
27 Han är en räddare och hjälpare, och han gör tecken och under i himmelen och på jorden, han som har räddat Daniel ur lejonens våld.»
28 Och denne Daniel steg i ära och makt under Darejaves' och under persern Kores' regeringar.

6 Darío tomó la decisión de constituir sobre su reino ciento veinte sátrapas que se encargaran del gobierno. 2 Sobre ellos puso a tres gobernadores, a quienes los sátrapas debían rendir cuentas, para que los intereses del rey no se vieran afectados. Uno de los tres gobernadores era Daniel, 3 aunque Daniel estaba por encima de los sátrapas y los gobernadores porque en él radicaba un espíritu superior. Incluso, el rey pensaba ponerlo a cargo de todo el reino. 4 Por eso los gobernadores y los sátrapas buscaban la ocasión de acusar a Daniel en lo que tuviera relación con el reino, pero no podían hallarla, ni tampoco acusarlo de ninguna falta, porque él era confiable y no tenía ningún vicio ni cometía ninguna falta. 5 Finalmente, dijeron: «Nunca vamos a hallar la ocasión de acusar a este Daniel, a menos que la busquemos en algo que tenga que ver con la ley de su Dios.»
6 Dicho esto, los gobernadores y los sátrapas se presentaron juntos ante el rey, y le dijeron:
«¡Que viva para siempre Su Majestad, el rey Darío! 7 Todos los gobernadores, magistrados, sátrapas, príncipes y capitanes del reino han acordado por unanimidad pedir a Su Majestad que promulgue un edicto real, y que lo confirme, ordenando que cualquiera que en los treinta días siguientes demande el favor de cualquier dios o persona que no sea Su Majestad, sea arrojado al foso de los leones. 8 Tenga a bien Su Majestad confirmar este edicto, y firmarlo, para que conforme a la ley de Media y de Persia, no pueda ser revocado.»
9 El rey firmó el edicto y la prohibición. 10 Y cuando Daniel supo que el edicto había sido firmado, entró en su casa, abrió las ventanas de su alcoba que daban hacia Jerusalén, y tres veces al día se arrodillaba y oraba a su Dios, dándole gracias como acostumbraba hacerlo. 11 Pero aquellos hombres se juntaron y hallaron a Daniel orando y rogando en presencia de su Dios, 12 así que fueron ante el rey y, haciendo referencia al edicto real, dijeron:
«¿No es verdad que Su Majestad ha confirmado un edicto, el cual ordena que cualquiera que en los treinta días siguientes pida el favor de cualquier dios o persona sea echado en el foso de los leones? ¡A menos, claro, que pida el favor de Su Majestad!»
El rey respondió:
«En efecto. Y conforme a la ley de Media y de Persia, ese edicto no puede ser revocado.»
13 Al instante, ellos respondieron al rey:
«¡Pues Daniel, que es uno de los cautivos de Judá, no respeta a Su Majestad ni acata el edicto que Su Majestad ha confirmado! ¡Al contrario, tres veces al día pide el favor de su Dios!»
14 Cuando el rey oyó esto, se puso muy apesadumbrado y resolvió librar a Daniel. Hasta la puesta del sol hizo todo lo posible por ponerlo a salvo, 15 pero aquellos hombres lo rodearon y le dijeron:
«Su Majestad seguramente sabe que, según la ley de Media y de Persia, ningún edicto o decreto confirmado por el rey puede ser abrogado.»
16 El rey dio entonces la orden de que llevaran a Daniel al foso de los leones, y lo arrojaran allí. Sin embargo, le dijo a Daniel:
«El Dios a quien tú sirves sin cesar habrá de librarte.»
17 Enseguida trajeron una piedra y la pusieron sobre la entrada del foso, y el rey la selló con su anillo y con el anillo de sus príncipes, para que la orden acerca de Daniel no fuera alterada. 18 Después de eso, el rey se fue a su palacio y se acostó sin comer nada. Tampoco permitió que tocaran para él instrumentos de música, y hasta el sueño se le fue.
19 Muy de mañana, el rey se levantó y lo primero que hizo fue dirigirse al foso de los leones. 20 Cuando estuvo cerca del foso, con voz triste pero fuerte llamó a Daniel y le dijo:
«Daniel, siervo del Dios viviente, a quien tú sirves sin cesar, dime: ¿pudo tu Dios librarte de los leones?»
21 Daniel le respondió:
«¡Que viva Su Majestad para siempre! 22 Mi Dios envió a su ángel para que cerrara las fauces de los leones y no me hicieran daño. Y es que delante de Dios soy inocente, y aun delante de Su Majestad, pues no he cometido ningún mal.»
23 Al escucharlo, el rey se alegró mucho, y mandó que sacaran del foso a Daniel. Y cuando lo sacaron, salió ileso porque había confiado en su Dios. 24 Entonces el rey mandó traer a los que habían acusado a Daniel, y que los arrojaran al foso de los leones junto con sus hijos y sus mujeres. Y aún no habían llegado al fondo del foso cuando los leones ya se habían lanzado sobre ellos y les habían despedazado todos los huesos.
25 Después, el rey Darío escribió lo siguiente para todos los pueblos, naciones y lenguas que habitaban en el país:
«Que la paz les sea multiplicada. 26 Con este decreto ordeno que, en toda la extensión de mi reino, todos teman y tiemblen ante la presencia del Dios de Daniel. Porque él es el Dios viviente; él permanece por todos los siglos, y su reino no será jamás destruido. ¡Su dominio perdurará hasta el fin! 27 El salva y libra, y hace señales y maravillas en el cielo y en la tierra. ¡Él es quien ha salvado a Daniel de las fauces de los leones!»
28 Y Daniel fue prosperado durante los reinados de Darío y de Ciro el persa.
