Then these administrators and regional authorities[a] went as a group to the king and said this, “Your majesty, live forever! All of the royal administrators, prefects, regional authorities,[b] scribes, and governors have concluded that the king should establish and enforce an edict that anyone who prays to any god or man for the next 30 days (except to you, your majesty) is to be thrown into the lions’ pit. Therefore, your majesty, establish the decree and sign the written document so it can’t be changed, in accordance with the laws of the Medes and Persians that can’t be repealed.”

So these governors and satraps thronged before the king, and said thus to him: (A)“King Darius, live forever! All the governors of the kingdom, the administrators and satraps, the counselors and advisors, have (B)consulted together to establish a royal statute and to make a firm decree, that whoever petitions any god or man for thirty days, except you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions. Now, O king, establish the decree and sign the writing, so that it cannot be changed, according to the (C)law of the Medes and Persians, which [a]does not alter.”
