12 Then they approached and spoke with the king[a] concerning the edict of the king, “Did you not sign an edict[b] that any person who would seek anything from any God or human within thirty days except from you, O king, would be thrown into the lion pit?”[c] The king answered and said, “The matter as you have just stated is certain according to the law of the Medes and Persians which cannot be revoked.”

God’s Miraculous Deliverance of Daniel Again

13 Then they responded[d] and said before the king, “Daniel, who is from the exiles[e] of Judah,[f] is not paying any attention[g] to you, O king, or to the decree that you have signed, and three times daily[h] he says his prayer.” 14 Then the king, when[i] he heard that report,[j] he was extremely distressed over it; and concerning Daniel[k] he was determined[l] to rescue him. And until the setting of the sun he was making every effort to deliver him.

12 So they went to the king and spoke to him about his royal decree: “Did you not publish a decree that during the next thirty days anyone who prays to any god or human being except to you, Your Majesty, would be thrown into the lions’ den?”

The king answered, “The decree stands—in accordance with the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be repealed.”(A)

13 Then they said to the king, “Daniel, who is one of the exiles from Judah,(B) pays no attention(C) to you, Your Majesty, or to the decree you put in writing. He still prays three times a day.” 14 When the king heard this, he was greatly distressed;(D) he was determined to rescue Daniel and made every effort until sundown to save him.
