4 尼布甲尼撒王传谕天下各族、各邦、各语种的人：“愿你们大享平安！ 2 我乐意向你们述说至高的上帝对我所行的神迹奇事。
3 “祂的神迹何其伟大！
祂的奇事何其可畏！
祂的国度永远长存，
祂的统治直到万代。
4 “我尼布甲尼撒安居在家，在宫中享受荣华。 5 但我做了一个梦，令我害怕。我躺在床上的时候，脑中出现的情景和异象使我恐惧。 6 我便召巴比伦所有的智者来为我解梦。 7 术士、巫师、占星家和占卜者都来了，我将梦告诉他们，他们却不能给我解梦。 8 最后但以理来到我面前，他又名伯提沙撒——取自我神明的名，他有圣洁神明的灵。我将梦告诉他，说， 9 ‘术士的首领伯提沙撒啊，我知道你有圣洁神明的灵，任何奥秘都难不倒你。请你为我解释我梦中所见的异象。

19 但以理，又名伯提沙撒，一时非常惊讶，惶恐不安。王说：“伯提沙撒啊，不要因为这梦和梦的意思而惶恐不安。”伯提沙撒回答说：“我主啊，愿这梦发生在恨你的人身上，梦的意思应验在你的仇敌身上。 20 你梦见的树苍劲有力，高可参天，从地极都能看见。 21 它的叶子美丽，果实累累，可作众生的食物。野兽住在它的荫下，飞鸟宿在它的枝头。 22 王啊，这苍劲有力的树就是你，你的威名高达穹苍，你的权柄延至地极。 23 王看见圣洁的守望者从天而降，说，‘将这树砍倒、毁灭，但把树丕用铁环和铜环箍住留在野地的青草中，让他被天上的露水浸湿，与野兽一起吃草，达七年之久。’
24 “王啊，以下是梦的意思，是至高者裁定要临到我主我王的事： 25 你必从人群中被赶走，与野兽同住，像牛一样吃草，被天上的露水浸湿，达七年之久，直到你知道至高者主宰世上万国，祂要把国赐给谁就赐给谁。 26 守望者命令留下树丕，表示等到你承认上天掌权后，你将重掌国权。 27 王啊，请接受我的劝谏，你要秉公行义，以断绝罪恶；怜悯穷人，以除掉罪过。这样，你的国运也许可以延续。”
梦兆应验
28 这一切事果然发生在尼布甲尼撒王身上。 29 十二个月后，他在巴比伦王宫的屋顶散步时， 30 说：“这宏伟的巴比伦岂不是我用大能建立为京都，以显我的威严和荣耀吗？” 31 话未说完，天上就有声音说：“尼布甲尼撒王啊，你听着，你已失去王权。 32 你必从人群中被赶走，与野兽同住，像牛一样吃草，达七年之久，直到你知道至高者主宰世上万国，祂要把国赐给谁就赐给谁。” 33 这话立刻应验在尼布甲尼撒身上。他从人群中被赶走，像牛一样吃草，身体被天上的露水浸湿，直到他的头发长如鹰毛，指甲长如鸟爪。

或质问祂的作为。
36 “那时，我恢复了神智，也恢复了我的威严和荣耀，重现我国度的辉煌。我的谋士和大臣都来朝见我，我重掌国权，势力比以前更大。 37 现在我尼布甲尼撒颂赞、尊崇、敬奉天上的王，因为祂的作为公正，祂行事公平，能够贬抑行为骄傲的人。”

4 Jag, Nebukadnessar, levde i fred och hade framgång,
2 när jag en natt fick en dröm som skrämde mig.
3 Jag sände bud efter alla visa män i Babylon för att få min dröm uttydd.
4 När spåmännen, trollkonstnärerna, astrologerna och de vise männen kom och jag berättade drömmen för dem, kunde de inte förklara den.
5 Till slut kom Daniel till mig, den man som jag kallar Beltesassar efter min gud. Han har den helige gudens ande i sig.
6 Beltesassar, du som är den främste bland mina spåmän, sa jag, jag vet att den helige gudens ande bor i dig och att ingen hemlighet är så svår att inte du kan lösa den. Tala om för mig vad min dröm betyder!
7-8 Jag såg ett mycket högt träd ute på fältet, och det växte allt högre mot skyn, tills man kunde se det överallt i hela världen.
9 Löven var friska och gröna, och grenarna var nertyngda av frukt, tillräckligt för att alla skulle få att äta. Markens djur vilade sig i dess skugga, fåglar byggde bo i dess lövverk och hela världen fick sin föda av det.
10 Då fick jag i drömmen se hur en Guds ängel kom ner från himlen.
11 Han ropade: 'Hugg ner trädet! Skär av grenarna, skaka av löven och sprid ut frukten. Jaga bort djuren som håller till under det, och fåglarna som sitter på grenarna,
12 men lämna kvar stubben med rötterna i jorden. Bind fast den med en kätting av järn och koppar och låt den stå kvar i gräset på fältet.Han ska dricka av himlens dagg och äta markens gräs!
13 Under sju år ska han leva som ett djur.
14 Detta har änglarna bestämt genom den Heliges befallning. Anledningen till detta är att hela världen ska inse att den Högste råder över världens alla riken och kan ge dem till vem han vill, till och med till den lägsta bland människor!'
15 Så var min dröm, Beltesassar. Tala nu om för mig vad den betyder! Ingen annan kan hjälpa mig. Alla de vise männen i riket har svikit mig. Men du kan tala om innebörden för mig, för gudarnas ande bor i dig.
16 Daniel satt förstummad och var alldeles tyst en lång stund, förskräckt över drömmens innebörd. Slutligen sa kungen till honom: Beltesassar, var inte rädd att tala om för mig vad den betyder!Daniel svarade: Om dessa händelser som förutsägs i drömmen ändå ville drabba dina fiender, Ers Majestät, och inte dig!
17 Trädet som växte så högt att hela världen kunde se det,
18 och som hade så friska, gröna löv och så mycket frukt att den räckte åt alla, och som gav skydd åt vilda djur och lät fåglar bygga bo i sina grenar -
19 det trädet är Ers Majestät själv: Du har vuxit dig så stark och mäktig att din makt når ända upp till himlen, och du regerar över hela världen.
20 Sedan såg Ers Majestät hur Guds ängel kom ner från himlen och sa: 'Hugg ner trädet och förstör det, men lämna stubben och rötterna kvar i jorden, och bind fast den med en kedja av järn och koppar. Låt honom bli våt av himlens dagg! Under sju år ska han äta gräs tillsammans med markens djur.'
21 Detta är tolkningen: Den högste Guden har beslutat
22 att ditt folk ska driva ut dig ur ditt palats. Du ska bo på marken som ett djur och äta gräs som en oxe, och din rygg ska bli våt av dagg. Så ska det vara under sju år, tills du har lärt dig att den högste Guden regerar över människors riken och ger makt åt den han vill.
23 Men stubben och rötterna rycktes inte upp och förstördes! Det betyder att du ska få tillbaka ditt rike igen, när du har lärt dig att det är himlen som regerar.
24 Jag önskar att Ers Majestät ville lyda mitt råd och sluta att synda! Gör det som du vet är rätt! Var barmhärtig mot de fattiga! Då kanske Gud kan fortsätta att ge dig framgång!
25 Allt som Daniel sagt slog in.
26 Tolv månader efter drömmen gick Nebukadnessar omkring på taket till det kungliga palatset i Babylon
27 och sa för sig själv: I egen kraft har jag lyckats bygga denna vackra stad. Den är huvudstad i mitt rike, och detta är mitt kungliga residens.
28 Medan han talade hördes en röst från himlen: Kung Nebukadnessar, lyssna! Detta är till dig: Du regerar inte längre över detta rike.
29 Du ska tvingas lämna palatset och bo tillsammans med djuren ute på fälten och äta gräs som en oxe under sju år, tills du äntligen inser att Gud delar ut människors riken åt den han själv väljer.
30 I samma stund gick orden i uppfyllelse. Nebukadnessar blev driven ut ur sitt palats och fick äta gräs som en oxe, och hans kropp blev våt av daggen. Hans hår växte och blev så långt som en örns fjädrar och hans naglar som fågelklor.
31 När sju år hade gått, lyfte jag, Nebukadnessar, min blick mot himlen. Mitt förstånd återvände, och jag prisade och tillbad den högste Guden och ärade honom som förblir i evighet och vars rike varar från släkte till släkte.
32 Människorna på jorden är ingenting i jämförelse med honom. Han gör vad han vill med både himlens krafter och jordens alla folk. Ingen kan hindra honom eller säga: 'Vad menar du med att göra på det sättet?'
33 När jag fick tillbaka mitt förstånd, fick jag också tillbaka min makt och härlighet och mitt rike. Mina rådgivare och tjänstemän kom tillbaka till mig, jag fick tillbaka min tron och blev till och med mäktigare än tidigare.
34 Jag, Nebukadnessar, prisar nu och ärar himlens kung, allas domare, som bara gör det som är rätt och riktigt. Han har makt att krossa alla högmodiga!

4 Nebuchadnezzar the king, unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.
2 I thought it good to shew the signs and wonders that the high God hath wrought toward me.
3 How great are his signs! and how mighty are his wonders! his kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion is from generation to generation.
4 I Nebuchadnezzar was at rest in mine house, and flourishing in my palace:
5 I saw a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled me.
6 Therefore made I a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known unto me the interpretation of the dream.
7 Then came in the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers: and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known unto me the interpretation thereof.
8 But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my God, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods: and before him I told the dream, saying,
9 O Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in thee, and no secret troubleth thee, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and the interpretation thereof.
10 Thus were the visions of mine head in my bed; I saw, and behold a tree in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof was great.
11 The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth:
12 The leaves thereof were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all: the beasts of the field had shadow under it, and the fowls of the heaven dwelt in the boughs thereof, and all flesh was fed of it.
13 I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and an holy one came down from heaven;
14 He cried aloud, and said thus, Hew down the tree, and cut off his branches, shake off his leaves, and scatter his fruit: let the beasts get away from under it, and the fowls from his branches:
15 Nevertheless leave the stump of his roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts in the grass of the earth:
16 Let his heart be changed from man's, and let a beast's heart be given unto him; and let seven times pass over him.
17 This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.
18 This dream I king Nebuchadnezzar have seen. Now thou, O Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation thereof, forasmuch as all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known unto me the interpretation: but thou art able; for the spirit of the holy gods is in thee.
19 Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was astonied for one hour, and his thoughts troubled him. The king spake, and said, Belteshazzar, let not the dream, or the interpretation thereof, trouble thee. Belteshazzar answered and said, My lord, the dream be to them that hate thee, and the interpretation thereof to thine enemies.
20 The tree that thou sawest, which grew, and was strong, whose height reached unto the heaven, and the sight thereof to all the earth;
21 Whose leaves were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all; under which the beasts of the field dwelt, and upon whose branches the fowls of the heaven had their habitation:
22 It is thou, O king, that art grown and become strong: for thy greatness is grown, and reacheth unto heaven, and thy dominion to the end of the earth.
23 And whereas the king saw a watcher and an holy one coming down from heaven, and saying, Hew the tree down, and destroy it; yet leave the stump of the roots thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him;
24 This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the most High, which is come upon my lord the king:
25 That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.
26 And whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the tree roots; thy kingdom shall be sure unto thee, after that thou shalt have known that the heavens do rule.
27 Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by shewing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity.
28 All this came upon the king Nebuchadnezzar.
29 At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon.
30 The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?
31 While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee.
32 And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.
33 The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws.
34 And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:
35 And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?
36 At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me.
37 Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.

4 El rey Nabucodonosor a todos los pueblos, naciones y lenguas que habitan en toda la tierra: Paz les sea multiplicada.
2 Me ha parecido bien declarar las señales y milagros que el Dios Altísimo ha hecho para conmigo. 3 ¡Cuán grandes son sus señales y cuán poderosos sus milagros! Su reino es un reino eterno, y su señorío de generación en generación.
4 [a]Yo, Nabucodonosor, estaba tranquilo en mi casa y próspero en mi palacio. 5 Entonces tuve un sueño que me espantó, y las fantasías sobre mi cama y las visiones de mi cabeza me turbaron. 6 Por esto di un decreto para traer a mi presencia a todos los sabios de Babilonia, a fin de que me dieran a conocer la interpretación del sueño.
7 Entonces vinieron los magos, los encantadores, los caldeos y los adivinos, y yo conté el sueño delante de ellos, pero no me dieron a conocer su interpretación. 8 Al final entró delante de mí Daniel (cuyo nombre es Beltesasar, como el nombre de mi dios), en quien hay espíritu de los dioses santos. Yo conté el sueño delante de él, diciendo: 9 Beltesasar, jefe de los magos, como entiendo que en ti hay espíritu de los dioses santos y que ningún misterio está escondido de ti, dime las visiones del sueño que he tenido y su interpretación. 10 Estas son las visiones de mi cabeza en mi cama: Yo miraba, y he aquí un árbol en medio de la tierra, cuya altura era grande. 11 Este árbol crecía y se hacía fuerte; su altura llegaba hasta el cielo y era visible hasta los confines de toda la tierra. 12 Su follaje era hermoso y su fruto abundante. En él había sustento para todos. Debajo de él se ponían a la sombra los animales del campo, y en sus ramas habitaban las aves del cielo. Todo mortal tomaba sustento de él.
13 Estando en mi cama miraba las visiones de mi cabeza, y he aquí que un vigilante, uno santo, descendía del cielo. 14 Él proclamaba con gran voz y decía así: “¡Derriben el árbol y corten sus ramas; sacudan su follaje y desparramen su fruto! ¡Huyan los animales que están debajo de él y las aves de sus ramas! 15 Pero dejen el tronco de sus raíces en la tierra, con atadura de hierro y de bronce, entre el pasto del campo. Que él sea mojado con el rocío del cielo y que con los animales tenga su parte entre la hierba de la tierra. 16 Que su corazón de hombre sea cambiado; que se le dé un corazón de animal y pasen sobre él siete tiempos”.
17 La sentencia fue por decreto de los vigilantes, y la decisión por la palabra de los santos, para que los vivientes reconozcan que el Altísimo es Señor del reino de los hombres, que lo da a quien quiere y que constituye sobre él al más humilde de los hombres.
Daniel interpreta el sueño
18 —Yo, el rey Nabucodonosor, he tenido este sueño. Tú, pues, Beltesasar, di la interpretación, puesto que todos los sabios de mi reino no han podido darme a conocer su interpretación. Pero tú sí puedes, porque el espíritu de los dioses santos está en ti.
19 Entonces Daniel, cuyo nombre era Beltesasar, quedó atónito por un momento y sus pensamientos lo turbaban. El rey habló y dijo:
—Beltesasar, no te turben el sueño ni su interpretación.
Y Beltesasar respondió y dijo:
—¡Oh señor mío, que el sueño sea para tus enemigos y su interpretación para tus adversarios! 20 El árbol que viste (que crecía y se hacía fuerte, y cuya altura llegaba hasta el cielo y que era visible a toda la tierra; 21 cuyo follaje era hermoso y su fruto abundante, de modo que en él había sustento para todos; debajo del cual habitaban los animales del campo y en cuyas ramas las aves del cielo tenían su morada) 22 eres tú mismo, oh rey, que has crecido y te has hecho fuerte. Tu grandeza ha crecido y ha llegado hasta el cielo, y tu dominio hasta los confines de la tierra. 23 En cuanto a lo que vio el rey (un vigilante, uno santo, que descendía del cielo y decía: “Derriben el árbol y destrúyanlo; pero dejen el tronco de sus raíces en la tierra, con atadura de hierro y de bronce, entre el pasto del campo. Que él sea mojado con el rocío del cielo y que con los animales del campo tenga su parte, hasta que pasen sobre él siete tiempos”), 24 esta es, oh rey, la interpretación: Es un decreto del Altísimo que ha caído sobre mi señor el rey. 25 A ti te echarán de entre los hombres, y junto con los animales del campo estará tu morada. Te darán de comer hierba, como a los bueyes, y serás mojado con el rocío del cielo. Siete tiempos pasarán sobre ti, hasta que reconozcas que el Altísimo es Señor del reino de los hombres y que lo da a quien quiere. 26 Y lo que dijeron, que dejasen en la tierra el tronco de las raíces del árbol, significa que tu reino continuará firme después que tú reconozcas que el señorío es de los cielos. 27 Por tanto, oh rey, que te sea grato mi consejo, y rompe con tus pecados mediante la práctica de la justicia, y con tus iniquidades mediante obras de misericordia para con los pobres. Tal vez esto resulte en la prolongación de tu tranquilidad.
Nabucodonosor pierde la razón
28 Todo aquello le sobrevino al rey Nabucodonosor. 29 Al final de doce meses, mientras se paseaba sobre la terraza del palacio real de Babilonia, 30 dijo el rey: “¿No es esta la gran Babilonia que yo edifiqué como residencia real, con la fuerza de mi poder y para la gloria de mi majestad?”.
31 Aún estaba la palabra en la boca del rey, cuando descendió una voz del cielo: “A ti se te dice, oh rey Nabucodonosor, que el reino ha sido quitado de ti. 32 Te echarán de entre los hombres, y junto con los animales del campo será tu morada. Te darán de comer hierba como a los bueyes. Siete tiempos pasarán sobre ti, hasta que reconozcas que el Altísimo es Señor del reino de los hombres y que lo da a quien quiere”.
33 En la misma hora se cumplió la palabra acerca de Nabucodonosor y fue echado de entre los hombres. Comía hierba como los bueyes, y su cuerpo era mojado con el rocío del cielo, hasta que su pelo creció como plumas de águilas y sus uñas como las de las aves.
Nabucodonosor es restaurado
34 “Pero al cabo de los días, yo, Nabucodonosor, alcé mis ojos al cielo; y me fue devuelta la razón. Entonces bendije al Altísimo; alabé y glorifiqué al que vive para siempre. Porque su señorío es eterno, y su reino de generación en generación. 35 Todos los habitantes de la tierra son considerados como nada. Él hace según su voluntad con el ejército del cielo y con los habitantes de la tierra. No hay quien detenga su mano ni quien le diga: ‘¿Qué haces?’.
36 “En el mismo tiempo me fue devuelta la razón, y mi dignidad y mi esplendor volvieron a mí para gloria de mi reino. Mis altos oficiales y mis nobles me buscaron. Yo fui restituido a mi reino y me fue añadida aun mayor grandeza. 37 Ahora, yo, Nabucodonosor, alabo, exalto y glorifico al Rey de los cielos, porque todas sus obras son verdad y sus caminos son justicia. Él puede humillar a los que andan con soberbia”.
