¹⁸ O king, ^(A)the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your ^[a]father a kingdom and majesty, glory and honor. ¹⁹ And because of the majesty that He gave him, ^(B)all peoples, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him. Whomever he wished, he ^(C)executed; whomever he wished, he kept alive; whomever he wished, he set up; and whomever he wished, he put down. ^20 (D)But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him. ²¹ Then he was ^(E)driven from the sons of men, his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. They fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, ^(F)till he ^[b]knew that the Most High God rules in the kingdom of men, and appoints over it whomever He chooses.

^5 (A)‘I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are on the ground, by My great power and by My outstretched arm, and ^(B)have given it to whom it seemed proper to Me. ^6 (C)And now I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, ^(D)My servant; and ^(E)the beasts of the field I have also given him to serve him. ^7 (F)So all nations shall serve him and his son and his son’s son, ^(G)until the time of his land comes; ^(H)and then many nations and great kings shall make him serve them.

²⁸ and the ^[a]base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are,

²¹ And in his place ^(A)shall arise a vile person, to whom they will not give the honor of royalty; but he shall come in peaceably, and seize the kingdom by intrigue.
