Rescatados del horno de fuego
3 El rey Nabucodonosor hizo una estatua de oro, cuya altura era de sesenta codos, y su anchura de seis codos; la levantó en el campo de Dura, en la provincia de Babilonia.
2 Y mandó el rey Nabucodonosor que se reuniesen los sátrapas, prefectos y gobernadores, oidores, tesoreros, consejeros, jueces y todos los jefes de las provincias, para que viniesen a la dedicación de la estatua que el rey Nabucodonosor había levantado.
3 Fueron, pues, reunidos los sátrapas, prefectos y gobernadores, oidores, tesoreros, consejeros, jueces y todos los jefes de las provincias, a la dedicación de la estatua que el rey Nabucodonosor había levantado; y estaban en pie delante de la estatua que había levantado el rey Nabucodonosor.
4 Y el pregonero anunciaba en alta voz: A vosotros, oh pueblos, naciones y lenguas, se os hace saber
5 que al oír el son de la bocina, de la flauta, de la cítara, del arpa, del salterio, de la zampoña y de todo instrumento de música, os postréis y adoréis la estatua de oro que el rey Nabucodonosor ha levantado;
6 y cualquiera que no se postre y adore, inmediatamente será echado dentro de un horno de fuego encendido.
7 Por lo cual, al oír todos los pueblos el son de la bocina, de la flauta, de la cítara, del arpa, del salterio, de la zampoña y de todo instrumento de música, todos los pueblos, naciones y lenguas se postraron y adoraron la estatua de oro que el rey Nabucodonosor había levantado.
Denuncia y condena de los judíos
8 Por esto en aquel tiempo algunos varones caldeos vinieron y acusaron maliciosamente a los judíos.
9 Tomaron la palabra y dijeron al rey Nabucodonosor: Rey, para siempre vive.
10 Tú, oh rey, has dado una ley por la cual todo hombre, al oír el son de la bocina, de la flauta, de la cítara, del arpa, del salterio, de la zampoña y de todo instrumento de música, se postre y adore la estatua de oro;
11 y el que no se postre y adore, sea echado dentro de un horno de fuego encendido.
12 Hay unos varones judíos, a quienes pusiste sobre los negocios de la provincia de Babilonia: Sadrac, Mesac y Abed-negó; estos varones, oh rey, no te han respetado; no sirven a tus dioses, ni adoran la estatua de oro que has levantado.
13 Entonces Nabucodonosor, irritado y furioso, mandó que trajesen a Sadrac, Mesac y Abed-negó. Al instante fueron traídos estos varones a la presencia del rey.
14 Tomó la palabra Nabucodonosor y les dijo: ¿Es verdad, Sadrac, Mesac y Abed-negó, que vosotros no servís a mis dioses, ni adoráis la estatua de oro que he levantado?
15 Ahora, pues, ¿estáis dispuestos para que al oír el son de la bocina, de la flauta, de la cítara, del arpa, del salterio, de la zampoña y de todo instrumento de música, os postréis y adoréis la estatua que he hecho? Porque si no la adoráis, en aquel mismo instante seréis echados en medio de un horno de fuego encendido; ¿y qué dios será aquel que os libre de mis manos?
16 Sadrac, Mesac y Abed-negó respondieron al rey Nabucodonosor, diciendo: No necesitamos darte una respuesta sobre este asunto.
17 He aquí que nuestro Dios a quien servimos puede librarnos del horno de fuego encendido; y de tu mano, oh rey, nos librará.
18 Y si no, has de saber, oh rey, que no serviremos a tus dioses, ni tampoco adoraremos la estatua que has levantado.
19 Entonces Nabucodonosor se llenó de ira, y se alteró el aspecto de su rostro contra Sadrac, Mesac y Abed-negó, y ordenó que el horno se encendiese siete veces más de lo acostumbrado.
Los tres jóvenes en el horno de fuego
20 Y mandó a hombres muy vigorosos que tenía en su ejército, que atasen a Sadrac, Mesac y Abed-negó, para echarlos en el horno de fuego encendido.
21 Entonces estos varones fueron atados con sus calzones, sus túnicas, sus turbantes y sus vestidos, y fueron echados en medio del horno de fuego encendido.
22 Y como la orden del rey era apremiante, y habían encendido tanto el horno, la llama del fuego mató a aquellos que habían llevado allá a Sadrac, Mesac y Abed-negó.
23 Y estos tres varones, Sadrac, Mesac y Abed-negó, cayeron atados dentro del horno de fuego encendido.
24 Entonces el rey Nabucodonosor se quedó atónito, y se levantó apresuradamente y dijo a los de su consejo: ¿No hemos arrojado al fuego a tres varones atados? Ellos respondieron al rey: Es verdad, oh rey.
25 Y él repuso: Pues bien, yo veo cuatro varones sueltos, que se pasean por en medio del fuego sin sufrir ningún daño; y el aspecto del cuarto es semejante al de un hijo de los dioses.
26 Entonces Nabucodonosor se acercó a la puerta del horno de fuego encendido, y tomando la palabra, dijo: Sadrac, Mesac y Abed-negó, siervos del Dios Altísimo, salid y venid. Entonces Sadrac, Mesac y Abed-negó salieron de en medio del fuego.
27 Y se juntaron los sátrapas, los prefectos, los gobernadores y los consejeros del rey, para mirar a estos varones, y vieron que el fuego no había tenido poder alguno sobre sus cuerpos, ni aun el cabello de sus cabezas se había quemado; sus ropas estaban intactas, y ni siquiera tenían olor de fuego.
28 Entonces Nabucodonosor exclamó: ¡Bendito sea el Dios de Sadrac, Mesac y Abed-negó, que envió a su ángel y libró a sus siervos que, confiando en él, no cumplieron el edicto del rey, y entregaron sus cuerpos antes que servir y adorar a ningún otro dios fuera de su Dios!
29 Por lo tanto, decreto que toda persona, de cualquier pueblo, nación o lengua, que hable sin respeto del Dios de Sadrac, Mesac y Abed-negó, sea descuartizada, y su casa convertida en muladar; por cuanto no hay dios que pueda librar como éste.
30 Entonces el rey engrandeció a Sadrac, Mesac y Abed-negó en la provincia de Babilonia.

El horno en llamas
3 El rey Nabucodonosor mandó hacer una estatua de oro, de sesenta codos de alto por seis codos de ancho,[a] y mandó que la colocaran en los llanos de Dura, en la provincia de Babilonia. 2 Luego, ordenó a los sátrapas, prefectos, gobernadores, consejeros, tesoreros, jueces, magistrados y demás oficiales de las provincias que asistieran a la dedicación de la estatua que había mandado erigir. 3 Para celebrar tal dedicación, los sátrapas, prefectos, gobernadores, consejeros, tesoreros, jueces, magistrados y demás oficiales de las provincias se reunieron ante la estatua que el rey Nabucodonosor había ordenado erigir.
4 Entonces el heraldo proclamó a voz en cuello: «A ustedes, pueblos, naciones y gente de toda lengua, se les ordena lo siguiente: 5 Tan pronto como escuchen el sonido de trompetas, flautas, cítaras, liras, arpas, zampoñas y todo tipo de música, deberán inclinarse y adorar la estatua de oro que el rey Nabucodonosor ha mandado erigir. 6 Todo el que no se incline ante ella ni la adore será arrojado de inmediato a un horno en llamas».
7 Ante tal amenaza, tan pronto como se escuchó la música de todos esos instrumentos musicales, todos los pueblos y naciones, y gente de toda lengua, se inclinaron y adoraron la estatua de oro que el rey Nabucodonosor había mandado erigir. 8 Pero algunos astrólogos se presentaron ante el rey y acusaron a los judíos:
9 —¡Que viva el rey por siempre! —dijeron al rey Nabucodonosor—. 10 Su Majestad ha emitido un decreto ordenando que todo el que oiga el sonido de trompetas, flautas, cítaras, liras, arpas, zampoñas y todo tipo de música se incline ante la estatua de oro y la adore. 11 También ha ordenado que todo el que no se incline ante la estatua ni la adore sea arrojado a un horno en llamas. 12 Pero hay algunos judíos, a quienes ha puesto al frente de la provincia de Babilonia, que no acatan sus órdenes, Su Majestad. No adoran a los dioses de Su Majestad ni a la estatua de oro que mandó erigir. Se trata de Sadrac, Mesac y Abednego.
13 Lleno de ira, Nabucodonosor los mandó llamar. Cuando los jóvenes se presentaron ante el rey, 14 Nabucodonosor dijo:
—Ustedes tres, ¿es verdad que no honran a mis dioses ni adoran la estatua de oro que he mandado erigir? 15 En cuanto escuchen el sonido de trompetas, flautas, cítaras, liras, arpas, zampoñas y todo tipo de música, más les vale que se inclinen ante la estatua que he mandado hacer y la adoren. De lo contrario, serán lanzados de inmediato a un horno en llamas. ¿Y qué dios podrá librarlos de mis manos?
16 Sadrac, Mesac y Abednego respondieron:
—Rey Nabucodonosor, no hace falta que nos defendamos ante usted. 17 Si se nos arroja al horno en llamas, el Dios al que servimos puede librarnos del horno y de las manos de Su Majestad. 18 Pero incluso si no lo hace, queremos que sepa, Su Majestad, que no serviremos a sus dioses ni adoraremos la estatua que usted ha erigido.
19 Ante la respuesta de Sadrac, Mesac y Abednego, Nabucodonosor se puso muy furioso y cambió su actitud hacia ellos. Mandó entonces que se calentara el horno siete veces más de lo normal, 20 y que algunos de los soldados más fuertes de su ejército ataran a los tres jóvenes y los arrojaran al horno en llamas. 21 Fue así como los arrojaron al horno con sus mantos, sandalias, turbantes y todo, es decir, tal y como estaban vestidos. 22 Tan apremiante fue la orden del rey, y tan caliente estaba el horno, que las llamas alcanzaron y mataron a los soldados que arrojaron a Sadrac, Mesac y Abednego, 23 los cuales, atados de pies y manos, cayeron dentro del horno en llamas.
24 En ese momento, Nabucodonosor se puso de pie y preguntó sorprendido a sus consejeros:
—¿Acaso no eran tres los hombres que atamos y arrojamos al fuego?
—Así es, Su Majestad —respondieron.
25 —¡Pues miren! —exclamó—. Allí en el fuego veo a cuatro hombres, sin ataduras y sin daño alguno, ¡y el cuarto tiene la apariencia de un hijo de los dioses!
26 Dicho esto, Nabucodonosor se acercó a la puerta del horno en llamas y gritó:
—Sadrac, Mesac y Abednego, siervos del Dios Altísimo, ¡salgan de allí y vengan acá!
Cuando los tres jóvenes salieron del horno, 27 los sátrapas, prefectos, gobernadores y consejeros reales se arremolinaron en torno a ellos y vieron que el fuego no les había causado ningún daño, y que ni uno solo de sus cabellos se había chamuscado; es más, su ropa no estaba quemada ¡y ni siquiera olía a humo!
28 Entonces exclamó Nabucodonosor: «¡Alabado sea el Dios de Sadrac, Mesac y Abednego, que envió a su ángel y los salvó! Ellos confiaron en él y, desafiando la orden real, optaron por la muerte antes que honrar o adorar a otro dios que no fuera el suyo. 29 Por tanto, yo decreto que se descuartice a cualquiera que hable en contra del Dios de Sadrac, Mesac y Abednego, y que su casa sea reducida a cenizas, sin importar la nación a que pertenezca o la lengua que hable. ¡No hay otro dios que pueda salvar de esta manera!».
30 Después de eso el rey promovió a Sadrac, Mesac y Abednego a un alto puesto en la provincia de Babilonia.

The Image of Gold and the Blazing Furnace
3 King Nebuchadnezzar made an image(A) of gold, sixty cubits high and six cubits wide,[a] and set it up on the plain of Dura in the province of Babylon. 2 He then summoned the satraps,(B) prefects, governors, advisers, treasurers, judges, magistrates and all the other provincial officials(C) to come to the dedication of the image he had set up. 3 So the satraps, prefects, governors, advisers, treasurers, judges, magistrates and all the other provincial officials assembled for the dedication of the image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up, and they stood before it.
4 Then the herald loudly proclaimed, “Nations and peoples of every language,(D) this is what you are commanded to do: 5 As soon as you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp,(E) pipe and all kinds of music, you must fall down and worship the image(F) of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up.(G) 6 Whoever does not fall down and worship will immediately be thrown into a blazing furnace.”(H)
7 Therefore, as soon as they heard the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp and all kinds of music, all the nations and peoples of every language fell down and worshiped the image of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.(I)
8 At this time some astrologers[b](J) came forward and denounced the Jews. 9 They said to King Nebuchadnezzar, “May the king live forever!(K) 10 Your Majesty has issued a decree(L) that everyone who hears the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe and all kinds of music must fall down and worship the image of gold,(M) 11 and that whoever does not fall down and worship will be thrown into a blazing furnace. 12 But there are some Jews whom you have set over the affairs of the province of Babylon—Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego(N)—who pay no attention(O) to you, Your Majesty. They neither serve your gods nor worship the image of gold you have set up.”(P)
13 Furious(Q) with rage, Nebuchadnezzar summoned Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. So these men were brought before the king, 14 and Nebuchadnezzar said to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, that you do not serve my gods(R) or worship the image(S) of gold I have set up? 15 Now when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe and all kinds of music, if you are ready to fall down and worship the image I made, very good. But if you do not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. Then what god(T) will be able to rescue(U) you from my hand?”
16 Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego(V) replied to him, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver(W) us from it, and he will deliver(X) us[c] from Your Majesty’s hand. 18 But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.(Y)”
19 Then Nebuchadnezzar was furious with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and his attitude toward them changed. He ordered the furnace heated seven(Z) times hotter than usual 20 and commanded some of the strongest soldiers in his army to tie up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego(AA) and throw them into the blazing furnace. 21 So these men, wearing their robes, trousers, turbans and other clothes, were bound and thrown into the blazing furnace. 22 The king’s command was so urgent and the furnace so hot that the flames of the fire killed the soldiers who took up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego,(AB) 23 and these three men, firmly tied, fell into the blazing furnace.
24 Then King Nebuchadnezzar leaped to his feet in amazement and asked his advisers, “Weren’t there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?”
They replied, “Certainly, Your Majesty.”
25 He said, “Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.”
26 Nebuchadnezzar then approached the opening of the blazing furnace and shouted, “Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, servants of the Most High God,(AC) come out! Come here!”
So Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego came out of the fire, 27 and the satraps, prefects, governors and royal advisers(AD) crowded around them.(AE) They saw that the fire(AF) had not harmed their bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed; their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them.
28 Then Nebuchadnezzar said, “Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who has sent his angel(AG) and rescued(AH) his servants! They trusted(AI) in him and defied the king’s command and were willing to give up their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own God.(AJ) 29 Therefore I decree(AK) that the people of any nation or language who say anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego be cut into pieces and their houses be turned into piles of rubble,(AL) for no other god can save(AM) in this way.”
30 Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the province of Babylon.(AN)

The Image of Gold
3 Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was [a]sixty cubits and its width six cubits. He set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon. 2 And King Nebuchadnezzar sent word to gather together the satraps, the administrators, the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the judges, the magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which King Nebuchadnezzar had set up. 3 So the satraps, the administrators, the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the judges, the magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces gathered together for the dedication of the image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up; and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up. 4 Then a herald cried [b]aloud: “To you it is commanded, (A)O peoples, nations, and languages, 5 that at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, you shall fall down and worship the gold image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up; 6 and whoever does not fall down and worship shall (B)be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.”
7 So at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the horn, flute, harp, and lyre, in symphony with all kinds of music, all the people, nations, and languages fell down and worshiped the gold image which King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
Daniel’s Friends Disobey the King
8 Therefore at that time certain Chaldeans (C)came forward and accused the Jews. 9 They spoke and said to King Nebuchadnezzar, (D)“O king, live forever! 10 You, O king, have made a decree that everyone who hears the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the gold image; 11 and whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. 12 (E)There are certain Jews whom you have set over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego; these men, O king, have (F)not paid due regard to you. They do not serve your gods or worship the gold image which you have set up.”
13 Then Nebuchadnezzar, in (G)rage and fury, gave the command to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. So they brought these men before the king. 14 Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the gold image which I have set up? 15 Now if you are ready at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, and you fall down and worship the image which I have made, (H)good! But if you do not worship, you shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. (I)And who is the god who will deliver you from my hands?”
16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, (J)we have no need to answer you in this matter. 17 If that is the case, our (K)God whom we serve is able to (L)deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. 18 But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we (M)worship the gold image which you have set up.”
Saved in Fiery Trial
19 Then Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury, and the expression on his face changed toward Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. He spoke and commanded that they heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated. 20 And he commanded certain mighty men of valor who were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, and cast them into the burning fiery furnace. 21 Then these men were bound in their coats, their trousers, their turbans, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. 22 Therefore, because the king’s command was [c]urgent, and the furnace exceedingly hot, the flame of the fire killed those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. 23 And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
24 Then King Nebuchadnezzar was astonished; and he rose in haste and spoke, saying to his [d]counselors, “Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?”
They answered and said to the king, “True, O king.”
25 “Look!” he answered, “I see four men loose, (N)walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like (O)the[e] Son of God.”
Nebuchadnezzar Praises God
26 Then Nebuchadnezzar went near the [f]mouth of the burning fiery furnace and spoke, saying, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, servants of the (P)Most High God, come out, and come here.” Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego came from the midst of the fire. 27 And the satraps, administrators, governors, and the king’s counselors gathered together, and they saw these men (Q)on whose bodies the fire had no power; the hair of their head was not singed nor were their garments affected, and the smell of fire was not on them.
28 Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, who sent His (R)Angel[g] and delivered His servants who trusted in Him, and they have frustrated the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they should not serve nor worship any god except their own God! 29 (S)Therefore I make a decree that any people, nation, or language which speaks anything amiss against the (T)God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego shall be (U)cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made an ash heap; (V)because there is no other God who can deliver like this.”
30 Then the king [h]promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego in the province of Babylon.
