41 Just as you saw that the feet and toes were partly of baked clay and partly of iron, so this will be a divided kingdom; yet it will have some of the strength of iron in it, even as you saw iron mixed with clay. 42 As the toes were partly iron and partly clay, so this kingdom will be partly strong and partly brittle. 43 And just as you saw the iron mixed with baked clay, so the people will be a mixture and will not remain united, any more than iron mixes with clay.

41 And just as[a] you saw the feet and the toes, partly potter’s clay[b] and partly iron,[c] it will be a divided kingdom; and some hardness[d] of the iron will be in it, just as[e] you have seen the iron mixed with the wet clay. 42 And as the toes of the feet were partly iron and partly clay, so part of the kingdom will be strong and partly brittle.[f] 43 And in that you saw the iron was mixed with wet clay, so they will mix in marriage[g] and they will not cling to one another,[h] just as iron does not mix with clay.
