The End of the Days
12 “Now at that time, (A)Michael, the great prince who stands guard over the sons of your people, will stand. And there will be a (B)time of distress (C)such as never happened since there was a nation until that time; and at that time your people, everyone who is found written in the (D)book, will be rescued. 2 (E)And many of those who sleep in the dust of the ground will awake, (F)these to everlasting life, but the others to reproach and everlasting [a]contempt. 3 [b]And those who have (G)insight will (H)shine brightly like the brightness of the [c]expanse of heaven, and those who (I)lead the many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever. 4 But as for you, Daniel, (J)conceal these words and (K)seal up the book until the (L)time of the end; (M)many will go to and fro, and knowledge will increase.”
5 Then I, Daniel, looked, and behold, two others were standing, one on this bank of the river and the other on that bank of the river. 6 And (N)one said to the man (O)dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, “(P)How long will it be until the end of these wonders?” 7 And I heard the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, [d]as he (Q)raised his right hand and his left toward heaven, and swore by (R)Him who lives forever that it would be for a [e](S)time, [f]times, and half a [g]time; and as soon as [h]they complete (T)shattering the [i]power of the holy people, all these events will be completed. 8 As for me, I heard but could not understand; so I said, “My lord, what will be the [j]outcome of these events?” 9 Then he said, “Go your way, Daniel, for these words are concealed and (U)sealed up until the time of the end. 10 (V)Many will be purged, [k]purified, and refined, but the (W)wicked will act wickedly; and none of the wicked will understand, but [l]those who (X)have insight will understand. 11 But from the time that the regular sacrifice is abolished and the [m](Y)abomination of desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days. 12 How (Z)blessed is he who keeps waiting and reaches the (AA)1,335 days! 13 But as for you, go your way to the [n]end; then you will enter into (AB)rest and stand again for your (AC)allotted portion at the end of the days.”

The Message
The Worst Trouble the World Has Ever Seen
12 1-2 “‘That’s when Michael, the great angel-prince, champion of your people, will step in. It will be a time of trouble, the worst trouble the world has ever seen. But your people will be saved from the trouble, every last one found written in the Book. Many who have been long dead and buried will wake up, some to eternal life, others to eternal shame.
3 “‘Men and women who have lived wisely and well will shine brilliantly, like the cloudless, star-strewn night skies. And those who put others on the right path to life will glow like stars forever.
4 “‘This is a confidential report, Daniel, for your eyes and ears only. Keep it secret. Put the book under lock and key until the end. In the interim there is going to be a lot of frantic running around, trying to figure out what’s going on.’

5-6 “As I, Daniel, took all this in, two figures appeared, one standing on this bank of the river and one on the other bank. One of them asked a third man who was dressed in linen and who straddled the river, ‘How long is this astonishing story to go on?’
7 “The man dressed in linen, who straddled the river, raised both hands to the skies. I heard him solemnly swear by the Eternal One that it would be a time, two times, and half a time, that when the oppressor of the holy people was brought down the story would be complete.
8 “I heard all this plainly enough, but I didn’t understand it. So I asked, ‘Master, can you explain this to me?’
9-10 “‘Go on about your business, Daniel,’ he said. ‘The message is confidential and under lock and key until the end, until things are about to be wrapped up. The populace will be washed clean and made like new. But the wicked will just keep on being wicked, without a clue about what is happening. Those who live wisely and well will understand what’s going on.’

11 “From the time that the daily worship is banished from the Temple and the obscene desecration is set up in its place, there will be 1,290 days.
12 “Blessed are those who patiently make it through the 1,335 days.
13 “And you? Go about your business without fretting or worrying. Relax. When it’s all over, you will be on your feet to receive your reward.”
Daniel 12
King James Version
12 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.
4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
5 Then I Daniel looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one on this side of the bank of the river, and the other on that side of the bank of the river.
6 And one said to the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, How long shall it be to the end of these wonders?
7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.
8 And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things?
9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.
10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.
11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.
12 Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.
13 But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.

(A)And there shall be a time of trouble,
Such as never was since there was a nation,
Even to that time.
And at that time your people (B)shall be delivered,
Every one who is found (C)written in the book.
2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake,
(D)Some to everlasting life,
Some to shame (E)and everlasting [a]contempt.
3 Those who are wise shall (F)shine
Like the brightness of the firmament,
(G)And those who turn many to righteousness
(H)Like the stars forever and ever.
4 “But you, Daniel, (I)shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall (J)run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.”
5 Then I, Daniel, looked; and there stood two others, one on this riverbank and the other on that (K)riverbank. 6 And one said to the man clothed in (L)linen, who was above the waters of the river, (M)“How long shall the fulfillment of these wonders be?”
7 Then I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, when he (N)held up his right hand and his left hand to heaven, and swore by Him (O)who lives forever, (P)that it shall be for a time, times, and half a time; (Q)and when the power of (R)the holy people has been completely shattered, all these things shall be finished.
8 Although I heard, I did not understand. Then I said, “My lord, what shall be the end of these things?”
9 And he said, “Go your way, Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. 10 (S)Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, (T)but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but (U)the wise shall understand.
11 “And from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away, and the abomination of desolation is set up, there shall be one thousand two hundred and ninety days. 12 Blessed is he who waits, and comes to the one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days.
13 “But you, go your way till the end; (V)for you shall rest, (W)and will arise to your inheritance at the end of the days.”

New English Translation
12 “At that time Michael,
the great prince who watches over your people,[a]
will arise.[b]
There will be a time of distress
unlike any other from the nation’s beginning[c]
up to that time.
But at that time your own people,
all those whose names are[d] found written in the book,
will escape.
2 Many of those who sleep
in the dusty ground will awake—
some to everlasting life,
and others to shame and everlasting abhorrence.[e]
3 But the wise will shine
like the brightness of the heavenly expanse.
And those bringing many to righteousness
will be like the stars forever and ever.
4 “But you, Daniel, close up these words and seal the book until the time of the end. Many will dash about,[f] and knowledge will increase.”
5 I, Daniel, watched as two others stood there, one on each side of the river.[g] 6 One said to the man clothed in linen who was above the waters of the river, “When will the end of these wondrous events occur?” 7 Then I heard the man clothed in linen who was over the waters of the river as he raised both his right and left hands to the sky[h] and made an oath by the one who lives forever: “It is for a time, times, and half a time. Then, when the power of the one who shatters[i] the holy people has been exhausted, all these things will be finished.”
8 I heard, but I did not understand. So I said, “Sir,[j] what will happen after these things?” 9 He said, “Go, Daniel. For these matters are closed and sealed until the time of the end. 10 Many will be purified, made clean, and refined, but the wicked will go on being wicked. None of the wicked will understand, though the wise will understand. 11 From the time that the daily sacrifice is removed and the abomination that causes desolation is set in place,[k] there are 1,290 days. 12 Blessed is the one who waits and attains to the 1,335 days. 13 But you should go your way[l] until the end.[m] You will rest and then at the end of the days you will arise to receive[n] what you have been allotted.”[o]
