Daniel’s Captivity in Babylon

In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim(A) king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar[a](B) king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and laid siege to it. The Lord handed Jehoiakim king of Judah over to him, along with some of the vessels from the house of God.(C) Nebuchadnezzar carried them to the land of Babylon,[b](D) to the house of his god,[c] and put the vessels in the treasury of his god.

Jehoiakim’s Rebellion and Death

24 During(A) Jehoiakim’s reign,(B) Nebuchadnezzar(C) king of Babylon(D) attacked.(E) Jehoiakim became his vassal for three years, and then he turned and rebelled against him. The Lord sent Chaldean, Aramean,(F) Moabite,(G) and Ammonite raiders against Jehoiakim. He sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of the Lord He had spoken through His servants the prophets.(H) Indeed, this happened to Judah at the Lord’s command to remove them from His sight.(I) It was because of the sins of Manasseh, according to all he had done,(J)

Immoral Church Members

It is widely reported that there is sexual immorality(A) among you, and the kind of sexual immorality that is not even tolerated[a] among the Gentiles(B)—a man is living with his father’s wife.(C) And you are inflated with pride, instead of filled with grief(D) so that he who has committed this act might be removed from your congregation. For though I am absent in body but present in spirit,(E) I have already decided about the one who has done this thing as though I were present. When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus with my spirit and with the power of our Lord Jesus, turn that one over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh,(F) so that his spirit may be saved in the Day of the Lord.(G)
