The Son of Man

13 “I kept looking in the night visions,
And behold, with the clouds of heaven
One like a (A)Son of Man was coming,
And He came up to the Ancient of Days
And came near before Him.
14 And to Him was given [a](B)dominion,
Glory, and (C)a kingdom,
(D)That all the peoples, nations, and men of every tongue
Might serve Him.
(E)His [b]dominion is an everlasting [c]dominion
Which will not be taken away;
(F)And His kingdom is one
Which will not be destroyed.

The Vision Interpreted

15 “As for me, Daniel, my spirit was distressed [d]within me, and the (G)visions of my head kept (H)alarming me. 16 I came near to one of those who were (I)standing by and began seeking out from him the [e]exact meaning of all this. So he (J)said it to me and made known to me the interpretation of these things: 17 ‘These great beasts, which are four in number, are four kings who will arise from the earth. 18 But the [f](K)saints of the Highest One will (L)receive the kingdom and possess the kingdom forever, [g]for all ages to come.’

19 “Then I desired to know the [h]exact meaning of the (M)fourth beast, which was different from all [i]the others, extraordinarily fearsome, with its teeth of iron and its claws of bronze, and which devoured, crushed, and trampled down the remainder with its feet, 20 and the meaning of the ten horns that were on its head and the other horn which came up and before which three of them fell, namely, that horn which had eyes and a mouth speaking great boasts and [j]which was larger in appearance than its associates. 21 I kept looking, and that horn was (N)waging war with the saints and overcoming them 22 until the Ancient of Days came and (O)judgment was given in favor of the saints of the Highest One, and the season arrived when the saints took possession of the kingdom.

23 “Thus he said: ‘The fourth beast will be a fourth kingdom on the earth, which will be different from all the other kingdoms and will devour the whole earth and tread it down and crush it. 24 As for the (P)ten horns, out of this kingdom ten kings will arise; and another will arise after them, and he will be different from the previous ones and will make low three kings. 25 He will (Q)speak words against the (R)Most High and (S)wear down the saints of the Highest One, and he will intend to make (T)changes in seasons and in law; and [k]they will be given into his hand for a [l](U)time, [m]times, and half a [n]time. 26 But the court will sit for judgment, and his dominion will be (V)taken away, [o]annihilated and destroyed [p]forever. 27 Then the [q](W)reign, the dominion, and the greatness of all the kingdoms under the whole heaven will be given to the people of the saints of the Highest One; His kingdom will be an (X)everlasting kingdom, and all the dominions will (Y)serve and obey Him.’

28 [r]At this point the matter of this revelation ended. As for me, Daniel, my thoughts were (Z)greatly alarming me, and the [s]splendor of my face changed, but I (AA)kept the matter in my heart.”

(A)Therefore, God also (B)highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him (C)the name which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus (D)every knee will bow, of (E)those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that (F)every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is [a](G)Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

12 So then, my beloved, (H)just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your (I)salvation with (J)fear and trembling; 13 for it is (K)God who is at work in you, both to will and to work (L)for His good pleasure.

14 Do all things without (M)grumbling or disputing, 15 so that you will be (N)blameless and innocent, (O)children of God without blemish in the midst of a (P)crooked and perverse generation, among whom you (Q)shine as [b]lights in the world, 16 holding [c]fast the word of life, so that in (R)the day of Christ I will have reason to boast because I did not (S)run in vain nor (T)labor in vain. 17 But even if I am being (U)poured out as a drink offering upon (V)the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice and share my joy with you all. 18 And you also, rejoice in the same way and share your joy with me.

Timothy and Epaphroditus Sent

19 But I hope in the Lord Jesus to (W)send (X)Timothy to you shortly, so that I also may be in good spirits when I learn of your circumstances. 20 For I have no one else (Y)of kindred spirit who will genuinely be concerned about your circumstances. 21 For they all (Z)seek after their own interests, not those of Christ Jesus. 22 But you know (AA)of his proven worth, that (AB)he served with me in the furtherance of the gospel (AC)like a child serving his father. 23 (AD)Therefore I hope to send him immediately, as soon as I [d]evaluate my own circumstances, 24 and (AE)I am confident in the Lord that I myself also will be coming shortly. 25 But I regarded it necessary to send to you (AF)Epaphroditus, my brother and (AG)fellow worker and (AH)fellow soldier, who is also your [e](AI)messenger and (AJ)minister to my need; 26 because he was longing [f]for you all and was distressed because you had heard that he was sick. 27 For indeed he was sick to the point of death, but God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, so that I would not have sorrow upon sorrow. 28 Therefore I have sent him all the more eagerly so that when you see him again you may rejoice and I may be less concerned. 29 (AK)Receive him then in the Lord with all joy, and (AL)hold men like him in high regard 30 because he came close to death [g](AM)for the work of Christ, risking his life to (AN)fulfill [h]what was lacking in your service to me.
