So these governors and satraps thronged before the king, and said thus to him: (A)“King Darius, live forever! All the governors of the kingdom, the administrators and satraps, the counselors and advisors, have (B)consulted together to establish a royal statute and to make a firm decree, that whoever petitions any god or man for thirty days, except you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions. Now, O king, establish the decree and sign the writing, so that it cannot be changed, according to the (C)law of the Medes and Persians, which [a]does not alter.” Therefore King Darius signed the written decree.

So these administrators and satraps went as a group to the king and said: “May King Darius live forever!(A) The royal administrators, prefects, satraps, advisers and governors(B) have all agreed that the king should issue an edict and enforce the decree that anyone who prays to any god or human being during the next thirty days, except to you, Your Majesty, shall be thrown into the lions’ den.(C) Now, Your Majesty, issue the decree and put it in writing so that it cannot be altered—in accordance with the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be repealed.”(D) So King Darius put the decree in writing.
