Daniel Interprets the Dream
24 Then Daniel went in to see Arioch, whom the king had ordered to execute the wise men of Babylon. Daniel said to him, “Don’t kill the wise men. Take me to the king, and I will tell him the meaning of his dream.”
25 Arioch quickly took Daniel to the king and said, “I have found one of the captives from Judah who will tell the king the meaning of his dream!”
26 The king said to Daniel (also known as Belteshazzar), “Is this true? Can you tell me what my dream was and what it means?”
27 Daniel replied, “There are no wise men, enchanters, magicians, or fortune-tellers who can reveal the king’s secret. 28 But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and he has shown King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in the future. Now I will tell you your dream and the visions you saw as you lay on your bed.
29 “While Your Majesty was sleeping, you dreamed about coming events. He who reveals secrets has shown you what is going to happen. 30 And it is not because I am wiser than anyone else that I know the secret of your dream, but because God wants you to understand what was in your heart.
31 “In your vision, Your Majesty, you saw standing before you a huge, shining statue of a man. It was a frightening sight. 32 The head of the statue was made of fine gold. Its chest and arms were silver, its belly and thighs were bronze, 33 its legs were iron, and its feet were a combination of iron and baked clay. 34 As you watched, a rock was cut from a mountain,[a] but not by human hands. It struck the feet of iron and clay, smashing them to bits. 35 The whole statue was crushed into small pieces of iron, clay, bronze, silver, and gold. Then the wind blew them away without a trace, like chaff on a threshing floor. But the rock that knocked the statue down became a great mountain that covered the whole earth.
36 “That was the dream. Now we will tell the king what it means. 37 Your Majesty, you are the greatest of kings. The God of heaven has given you sovereignty, power, strength, and honor. 38 He has made you the ruler over all the inhabited world and has put even the wild animals and birds under your control. You are the head of gold.
39 “But after your kingdom comes to an end, another kingdom, inferior to yours, will rise to take your place. After that kingdom has fallen, yet a third kingdom, represented by bronze, will rise to rule the world. 40 Following that kingdom, there will be a fourth one, as strong as iron. That kingdom will smash and crush all previous empires, just as iron smashes and crushes everything it strikes. 41 The feet and toes you saw were a combination of iron and baked clay, showing that this kingdom will be divided. Like iron mixed with clay, it will have some of the strength of iron. 42 But while some parts of it will be as strong as iron, other parts will be as weak as clay. 43 This mixture of iron and clay also shows that these kingdoms will try to strengthen themselves by forming alliances with each other through intermarriage. But they will not hold together, just as iron and clay do not mix.
44 “During the reigns of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed or conquered. It will crush all these kingdoms into nothingness, and it will stand forever. 45 That is the meaning of the rock cut from the mountain, though not by human hands, that crushed to pieces the statue of iron, bronze, clay, silver, and gold. The great God was showing the king what will happen in the future. The dream is true, and its meaning is certain.”
Nebuchadnezzar Rewards Daniel
46 Then King Nebuchadnezzar threw himself down before Daniel and worshiped him, and he commanded his people to offer sacrifices and burn sweet incense before him. 47 The king said to Daniel, “Truly, your God is the greatest of gods, the Lord over kings, a revealer of mysteries, for you have been able to reveal this secret.”
48 Then the king appointed Daniel to a high position and gave him many valuable gifts. He made Daniel ruler over the whole province of Babylon, as well as chief over all his wise men. 49 At Daniel’s request, the king appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to be in charge of all the affairs of the province of Babylon, while Daniel remained in the king’s court.
Nebuchadnezzar’s Gold Statue
3 King Nebuchadnezzar made a gold statue ninety feet tall and nine feet wide[b] and set it up on the plain of Dura in the province of Babylon. 2 Then he sent messages to the high officers, officials, governors, advisers, treasurers, judges, magistrates, and all the provincial officials to come to the dedication of the statue he had set up. 3 So all these officials[c] came and stood before the statue King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
4 Then a herald shouted out, “People of all races and nations and languages, listen to the king’s command! 5 When you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipes, and other musical instruments,[d] bow to the ground to worship King Nebuchadnezzar’s gold statue. 6 Anyone who refuses to obey will immediately be thrown into a blazing furnace.”
7 So at the sound of the musical instruments,[e] all the people, whatever their race or nation or language, bowed to the ground and worshiped the gold statue that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
8 But some of the astrologers[f] went to the king and informed on the Jews. 9 They said to King Nebuchadnezzar, “Long live the king! 10 You issued a decree requiring all the people to bow down and worship the gold statue when they hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipes, and other musical instruments. 11 That decree also states that those who refuse to obey must be thrown into a blazing furnace. 12 But there are some Jews—Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego—whom you have put in charge of the province of Babylon. They pay no attention to you, Your Majesty. They refuse to serve your gods and do not worship the gold statue you have set up.”
13 Then Nebuchadnezzar flew into a rage and ordered that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego be brought before him. When they were brought in, 14 Nebuchadnezzar said to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you refuse to serve my gods or to worship the gold statue I have set up? 15 I will give you one more chance to bow down and worship the statue I have made when you hear the sound of the musical instruments.[g] But if you refuse, you will be thrown immediately into the blazing furnace. And then what god will be able to rescue you from my power?”
16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. 18 But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.”
The Blazing Furnace
19 Nebuchadnezzar was so furious with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego that his face became distorted with rage. He commanded that the furnace be heated seven times hotter than usual. 20 Then he ordered some of the strongest men of his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and throw them into the blazing furnace. 21 So they tied them up and threw them into the furnace, fully dressed in their pants, turbans, robes, and other garments. 22 And because the king, in his anger, had demanded such a hot fire in the furnace, the flames killed the soldiers as they threw the three men in. 23 So Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, securely tied, fell into the roaring flames.
24 But suddenly, Nebuchadnezzar jumped up in amazement and exclaimed to his advisers, “Didn’t we tie up three men and throw them into the furnace?”
“Yes, Your Majesty, we certainly did,” they replied.
25 “Look!” Nebuchadnezzar shouted. “I see four men, unbound, walking around in the fire unharmed! And the fourth looks like a god[h]!”
26 Then Nebuchadnezzar came as close as he could to the door of the flaming furnace and shouted: “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out! Come here!”
So Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stepped out of the fire. 27 Then the high officers, officials, governors, and advisers crowded around them and saw that the fire had not touched them. Not a hair on their heads was singed, and their clothing was not scorched. They didn’t even smell of smoke!
28 Then Nebuchadnezzar said, “Praise to the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego! He sent his angel to rescue his servants who trusted in him. They defied the king’s command and were willing to die rather than serve or worship any god except their own God. 29 Therefore, I make this decree: If any people, whatever their race or nation or language, speak a word against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, they will be torn limb from limb, and their houses will be turned into heaps of rubble. There is no other god who can rescue like this!”
30 Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to even higher positions in the province of Babylon.

24 Unya mibalik si Daniel kang Arioc nga mao ang gisugo sa hari sa pagpatay sa mga maalamon nga tawo sa Babylon. Miingon si Daniel kaniya, “Ayaw patya ang maalamon nga mga tawo sa Babylon. Dad-a ako didto sa hari kay hubaron ko ang iyang damgo.”
25 Busa diha-diha dayon gidala ni Arioc si Daniel ngadto sa hari. Miingon si Arioc, “Mahal nga Hari, may nakita akong bihag nga gikan sa Juda nga makasaysay ug makahubad sa imong damgo.” 26 Gipangutana sa hari si Daniel nga gitawag usab ug Belteshazar, “Masaysay mo ba kon unsa ang akong damgo ug ang kahulogan niini?” 27 Mitubag si Daniel, “Mahal nga Hari, walay bisan kinsang maalamon, espiritista, madyikero, o manalagna nga makahubad sa imong damgo. 28 Apan may Dios sa langit nga nagapadayag sa mga tinago. Pinaagi sa imong damgo, Mahal nga Hari, gipahibalo sa Dios kanimo kon unsa ang mahitabo sa umaabot. Karon, isaysay ko kanimo ang mga panan-awon nga nakita mo sa imong damgo.
29 “Ang imong damgo, Mahal nga Hari, bahin sa mahitabo sa umaabot ug gipahibalo kana kanimo sa Dios nga nagapadayag sa mga tinago. 30 Ang imong damgo gipadayag kanako sa Dios, dili tungod kay mas maalam ako kaysa uban nga mga tawo, kondili aron masaysay ko kanimo ug imong masabtan kon unsa ang kahulogan sa mga butang nga anaa sa imong hunahuna.
31 “Sa imong damgo, may nakita kang usa ka dakong estatuwa nga labihan kasulaw. Nagtindog kini diha sa imong atubangan ug makalilisang ang hitsura niini. 32 Ang ulo niini puro bulawan, ang iyang dughan ug mga kamot plata, ug ang iyang tiyan ug mga paa bronsi. 33 Ang iyang mga batiis puthaw ug ang iyang mga tiil may bahin nga puthaw ug may bahin usab nga yutang kolonon. 34 Samtang nagtan-aw ka sa estatuwa, may usa ka bato nga natipak,[a] apan dili tawo ang nagtipak niini. Naigo ang mga tiil sa estatuwa, ug nadugmok kini. 35 Diha-diha nangagupok ang estatuwa nga puthaw, yutang kolonon, bronsi, plata, ug bulawan. Nahisama kini sa tahop sa giokanan ug gipalid sa hangin. Wala gayoy nahibilin niini. Apan ang bato nga nakadugmok sa tiil sa estatuwa nahimong dako nga bukid ug milukop sa tibuok kalibotan.
36 “Mao kadto ang imong damgo, ug mao kini ang kahulogan niini: 37 Mahal nga Hari, ikaw ang hari sa mga hari. Gihimo ka sa Dios sa langit nga hari, ug gihatagan sa gahom, kusog, ug kadungganan. 38 Gitugyan niya kanimo ang mga tawo, mga mananap, ug mga langgam, sa bisan asa nga dapit. Ikaw mao ang nagasimbolo niadtong ulo nga bulawan sa estatuwa.
39 “Human sa imong paghari may motungha nga laing gingharian nga huyang kaysa imong gingharian. Ang sunod niini mao ang ikatulo nga gingharian nga gisimbolohan sa bronsi nga bahin sa estatuwa, ug modumala kini sa tibuok kalibotan. 40 Ang ikaupat nga gingharian sama kalig-on sa puthaw. Kay sama nga ang puthaw makadugmok sa tanan, kini nga gingharian modugmok usab sa uban nga gingharian. 41 Sumala sa imong nakita, puthaw ug yutang kolonon ang mga tiil sa estatuwa. Kini nagkahulogan nga ang gingharian mabahin. Apan aduna kini kalig-on, sama sa imong nakita nga gisagol ang puthaw ug ang yutang kolonon. 42 Ang puthaw ug yutang kolonon nga mga tudlo sa tiil nagakahulogan nga may parte niini nga gingharian nga lig-on ug may parte nga dali rang mapukan. 43 Ang panagsagol sa puthaw ug yutang kolonon nagakahulogan usab nga maghiusa ang mga pangulo niini nga gingharian pinaagi sa pagminyoay sa ilang mga kaanakan. Apan dili magdugay ang ilang panaghiusa, sama nga ang puthaw ug yutang kolonon dili gayod mahimong isagol.
44 “Sa panahon niining mga hari, ang Dios sa langit mopatukod ug usa ka gingharian nga dili gayod mapukan bisan kanus-a. Dili gayod kini mapildi o madumalahan sa uban. Laglagon hinuon niini ang tanang mga gingharian ug magapabilin kini sa walay kataposan. 45 Mao kini ang kahulogan sa nakita nimong bato nga natipak gikan sa bukid nga dili tawo ang nagtipak, ug midugmok sa estatuwa nga puthaw, bronsi, yutang kolonon, plata, ug bulawan.
“Mahal nga Hari, nagpadayag ang gamhanan nga Dios kanimo kon unsa ang mahitabo sa umaabot. Mao kadto ang imong damgo ug ang iyang kahulogan. Tinuod gayod ang tanan kong gisulti.”
46 Unya miluhod si Haring Nebucadnezar sa pagpasidungog kang Daniel. Pagkahuman, nagmando siya nga maghalad ug magsunog ug insenso alang kang Daniel. 47 Miingon siya kang Daniel, “Tinuod gayod nga ang imong Dios mao ang labing gamhanan sa tanang dios, Ginoo sa mga hari, ug tigpadayag sa mga tinago, tungod kay nakahimo ka man sa pagpadayag niini nga tinago.”
48 Unya gipasidunggan pag-ayo sa hari si Daniel ug gihatagan ug daghang matahom nga mga gasa. Gihimo niya kini nga tigdumala sa tibuok nga probinsya sa Babylon ug pangulo sa tanang maalamon sa Babylon. 49 Gihangyo ni Daniel ang hari nga himuon sila si Shadrach, Meshach, ug Abednego nga iyang katabang sa pagdumala sa probinsya sa Babylon. Ug misugot ang hari. Unya didto nagpuyo si Daniel sa palasyo sa hari.
Nagmando si Nebucadnezar nga Simbahon ang Estatuwa
3 Unya nagpahimo si Haring Nebucadnezar ug estatuwa nga bulawan.[b] Ang gitas-on niini 90 ka piye ug ang gilapdon siyam ka piye. Gipahimutang niya kini didto sa patag sa Dura, sa probinsya sa Babylon. 2-3 Pagkahuman, gipatawag ni Haring Nebucadnezar ang mga gobernador, mga mayor, mga tinugyanan, mga magtatambag, mga tresurero, mga maghuhukom, mga tigdumala, ug ang uban pang mga opisyal sa mga probinsya aron motambong sa pagdedikar sa estatuwa. Sa dihang didto na sila nagtindog atubangan sa estatuwa, 4 misinggit ang tigbalita, “Kamong mga katawhan sa nagkalain-laing nasod, tribo, ug pinulongan, 5 pangluhod kamo ug simbaha ninyo ang estatuwa nga bulawan nga gipatindog ni Haring Nebucadnezar inigkadungog ninyo sa tingog sa budyong, plawta, kudyapi, harpa, ug uban pang mga instrumento. 6 Si bisan kinsa nga dili mosimba ilabay diha-diha sa nagadilaab nga hudno.” 7 Busa pagkadungog nila sa tingog sa mga instrumento miluhod dayon sila ug misimba sa estatuwa.
8 Niadtong panahona, adunay mga taga-Babylon[c] nga miduol sa hari ug miakusar sa mga Judio. 9 Miingon sila kang Haring Nebucadnezar, “Hinaut pa nga motaas pa ang imong kinabuhi, Halangdon nga Hari! 10 Dili ba nagmando ka man nga ang tanan nga makadungog sa tingog sa mga instrumento moluhod ug mosimba sa estatuwa nga bulawan, 11 ug ang dili moluhod ug mosimba ilabay sa nagadilaab nga hudno? 12 Angay kang masayod nga wala motuman sa imong sugo ang mga Judio nga imong gipadumala sa probinsya sa Babylon nga sila si Shadrach, Meshach, ug Abednego. Wala sila moalagad sa imong mga dios, ug wala sila mosimba sa estatuwa nga bulawan nga imong gipatindog.”
13 Pagkadungog niadto sa hari labihan gayod ang iyang kasuko. Gipatawag dayon niya sila si Shadrach, Meshach, ug Abednego. 14 Pag-abot nila gipangutana sila sa hari, “Tinuod ba nga wala kamo moalagad sa akong mga dios o mosimba sa estatuwa nga bulawan nga akong gipatindog? 15 Karon, pangandam kamo sa pagsimba sa estatuwa inigkadungog ninyo sa tingog sa mga instrumento. Kay kon dili, diha-diha ilabay kamo sa nagadilaab nga hudno. Tan-awon ta kon may dios ba nga makaluwas kaninyo.”
16 Mitubag ang tulo, “Mahal nga Hari, dili na kami kinahanglang mangatarungan pa kanimo bahin niana. 17 Kon mao man gayod kana ang mahitabo, luwason kami sa Dios nga among gialagaran gikan nianang nagadilaab nga hudno, ug gikan sa imong mga kamot. 18 Apan kon dili niya kami luwason, dili gihapon kami moalagad sa imong mga dios o mosimba sa estatuwa nga bulawan nga imong gipatindog.”
19 Tungod sa ilang tubag misamot ang kasuko sa hari kanila, ug makita kini sa iyang dagway. Busa nimando siya nga dugangan ug pito ka pilo ang kainit sa hudno. 20 Unya gisugo niya ang iyang kinakusgan nga mga sundalo nga gapuson sila si Shadrach, Meshach, ug Abednego ug ilabay ngadto sa nagadilaab nga hudno. 21 Busa gigapos sila ug gilabay didto sa hudno nga nagasul-ob sa ilang mga turban ug kompleto nga mga bisti. 22 Tungod sa sugo sa hari nga painiton pag-ayo ang hudno, bisan ang mga sundalo nga naglabay kanila nangamatay tungod sa hilabihan nga kainit. 23 Ug silang tulo nga ginapos nahagsa didto sa nagadilaab nga hudno.
24 Samtang nagtan-aw si Haring Nebucadnezar kalit nga nakatindog siya sa dakong katingala. Nangutana siya sa iyang mga opisyal, “Dili ba tulo man ka tawong ginapos ang atong gilabay sa kalayo?” Mitubag sila, “Oo, Mahal nga Hari.” 25 Miingon ang hari, “Tan-awa ninyo! Upat ang nakita ko nga nagalakaw-lakaw sa kalayo. Dili na sila ginapos ug wala sila maunsa. Ang usa kanila morag anghel.”[d]
26 Busa, miduol si Nebucadnezar sa pultahan sa nagadilaab nga hudno ug gitawag niya sila, “Shadrach, Meshach, ug Abednego, nga mga alagad sa Labing Halangdong Dios, gawas kamo diha! Anhi kamo dinhi!” Ug migawas silang tulo.
27 Unya gitapokan sila sa mga gobernador, mga mayor, mga tinugyanan, ug sa ubang mga opisyal sa hari, ug nakita nila nga wala sila maunsa sa kalayo. Ang ilang buhok o bisti wala gayod masunog, ug bisan na lang baho sa aso wala gayod kanila.
28 Tungod niadto miingon ang hari, “Dalaygon ang Dios nila ni Shadrach, Meshach, ug Abednego. Gipadala niya ang iyang anghel aron luwason ang iyang mga alagad nga misalig kaniya. Wala sila mosunod sa akong sugo nga mosimba sa estatuwa, ug mas gipalabi pa nila nga ilabay sila sa kalayo kaysa mosimba sa bisan unsang dios gawas sa ilang Dios. 29 Busa nagamando ako nga si bisan kinsa nga tawo sa bisan unsa nga nasod, tribo, o pinulongan nga mosulti ug daotan batok sa Dios nila ni Shadrach, Meshach, ug Abednego, tadtaron ug gub-on ang ilang mga balay. Kay wala nay laing dios nga makaluwas sama niini.”
30 Ug gihatagan sa hari sila si Shadrach, Meshach, ug Abednego ug mas taas pa nga katungdanan sa probinsya sa Babylon.
