35 And some of those of understanding shall fall, (A)to refine them, purify them, and make them white, until the time of the end; because it is still for the appointed time.

36 “Then the king shall do according to his own will: he shall (B)exalt and magnify himself above every god, shall speak blasphemies against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the wrath has been accomplished; for what has been determined shall be done. 37 He shall regard neither the [a]God of his fathers nor the desire of women, (C)nor regard any god; for he shall exalt himself above them all. 38 But in their place he shall honor a god of fortresses; and a god which his fathers did not know he shall honor with gold and silver, with precious stones and pleasant things. 39 Thus he shall act against the strongest fortresses with a foreign god, which he shall acknowledge, and advance its glory; and he shall cause them to rule over many, and divide the land for [b]gain.

The Northern King’s Conquests

40 “At the (D)time of the end the king of the South shall attack him; and the king of the North shall come against him (E)like a whirlwind, with chariots, (F)horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter the countries, overwhelm them, and pass through. 41 He shall also enter the Glorious Land, and many countries shall be overthrown; but these shall escape from his hand: (G)Edom, Moab, and the [c]prominent people of Ammon. 42 He shall stretch out his hand against the countries, and the land of (H)Egypt shall not escape. 43 He shall have power over the treasures of gold and silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt; also the Libyans and Ethiopians shall follow (I)at his heels. 44 But news from the east and the north shall trouble him; therefore he shall go out with great fury to destroy and annihilate many. 45 And he shall plant the tents of his palace between the seas and (J)the glorious holy mountain; (K)yet he shall come to his end, and no one will help him.

Prophecy of the End Time

12 “At that time Michael shall stand up,
The great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people;
(L)And there shall be a time of trouble,
Such as never was since there was a nation,
Even to that time.
And at that time your people (M)shall be delivered,
Every one who is found (N)written in the book.
And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake,
(O)Some to everlasting life,
Some to shame (P)and everlasting [d]contempt.
Those who are wise shall (Q)shine
Like the brightness of the firmament,
(R)And those who turn many to righteousness
(S)Like the stars forever and ever.

“But you, Daniel, (T)shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall (U)run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.”

Then I, Daniel, looked; and there stood two others, one on this riverbank and the other on that (V)riverbank. And one said to the man clothed in (W)linen, who was above the waters of the river, (X)“How long shall the fulfillment of these wonders be?

Then I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, when he (Y)held up his right hand and his left hand to heaven, and swore by Him (Z)who lives forever, (AA)that it shall be for a time, times, and half a time; (AB)and when the power of (AC)the holy people has been completely shattered, all these things shall be finished.

Although I heard, I did not understand. Then I said, “My lord, what shall be the end of these things?

And he said, “Go your way, Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. 10 (AD)Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, (AE)but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but (AF)the wise shall understand.

11 “And from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away, and the abomination of desolation is set up, there shall be one thousand two hundred and ninety days. 12 Blessed is he who waits, and comes to the one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days.

13 “But you, go your way till the end; (AG)for you shall rest, (AH)and will arise to your inheritance at the end of the days.”

The King Who Exalts Himself

36 “The king will do as he pleases. He will exalt and magnify himself(B) above every god and will say unheard-of things(C) against the God of gods.(D) He will be successful until the time of wrath(E) is completed, for what has been determined must take place.(F) 37 He will show no regard for the gods of his ancestors or for the one desired by women, nor will he regard any god, but will exalt himself above them all. 38 Instead of them, he will honor a god of fortresses; a god unknown to his ancestors he will honor with gold and silver, with precious stones and costly gifts. 39 He will attack the mightiest fortresses with the help of a foreign god and will greatly honor those who acknowledge him. He will make them rulers over many people and will distribute the land at a price.[a]

40 “At the time of the end the king of the South(G) will engage him in battle, and the king of the North will storm(H) out against him with chariots and cavalry and a great fleet of ships. He will invade many countries and sweep through them like a flood.(I) 41 He will also invade the Beautiful Land.(J) Many countries will fall, but Edom,(K) Moab(L) and the leaders of Ammon will be delivered from his hand. 42 He will extend his power over many countries; Egypt will not escape. 43 He will gain control of the treasures of gold and silver and all the riches of Egypt,(M) with the Libyans(N) and Cushites[b] in submission. 44 But reports from the east and the north will alarm him, and he will set out in a great rage to destroy and annihilate many. 45 He will pitch his royal tents between the seas at[c] the beautiful holy mountain.(O) Yet he will come to his end, and no one will help him.

The End Times

12 “At that time Michael,(P) the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress(Q) such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people—everyone whose name is found written in the book(R)—will be delivered.(S) Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake:(T) some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt.(U) Those who are wise[d](V) will shine(W) like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness,(X) like the stars for ever and ever.(Y) But you, Daniel, roll up and seal(Z) the words of the scroll until the time of the end.(AA) Many will go here and there(AB) to increase knowledge.”

Then I, Daniel, looked, and there before me stood two others, one on this bank of the river and one on the opposite bank.(AC) One of them said to the man clothed in linen,(AD) who was above the waters of the river, “How long will it be before these astonishing things are fulfilled?”(AE)

The man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, lifted his right hand(AF) and his left hand toward heaven, and I heard him swear by him who lives forever,(AG) saying, “It will be for a time, times and half a time.[e](AH) When the power of the holy people(AI) has been finally broken, all these things will be completed.(AJ)

I heard, but I did not understand. So I asked, “My lord, what will the outcome of all this be?”

He replied, “Go your way, Daniel, because the words are rolled up and sealed(AK) until the time of the end.(AL) 10 Many will be purified, made spotless and refined,(AM) but the wicked will continue to be wicked.(AN) None of the wicked will understand, but those who are wise will understand.(AO)

11 “From the time that the daily sacrifice(AP) is abolished and the abomination that causes desolation(AQ) is set up, there will be 1,290 days.(AR) 12 Blessed is the one who waits(AS) for and reaches the end of the 1,335 days.(AT)

13 “As for you, go your way till the end.(AU) You will rest,(AV) and then at the end of the days you will rise to receive your allotted inheritance.(AW)
