³ Then this Daniel became ^(A)distinguished above all ^(B)the other high officials and ^(C)satraps, because ^(D)an excellent spirit was in him. And the king planned ^(E)to set him over the whole kingdom.

¹⁴ I have heard of you that ^(A)the spirit of the gods^[a] is in you, and that ^(B)light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in you.

³⁸ And Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find a man like this, ^(A)in whom is the Spirit of God?”^{[a] 39} Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has shown you all this, there is none so discerning and wise as you are. ^40 (B)You shall be over my house, and all my people shall order themselves as you command.^[b] Only as regards the throne will I be greater than you.” ⁴¹ And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “See, ^(C)I have set you over all the land of Egypt.”

^12 (A)because an excellent spirit, knowledge, and ^(B)understanding ^(C)to interpret dreams, explain riddles, and ^(D)solve problems were found in this Daniel, ^(E)whom the king named Belteshazzar. Now let Daniel be called, and he will show the interpretation.”

³ For Mordecai the Jew was ^(A)second in rank to King Ahasuerus, and he was great among the Jews and popular with the multitude of his brothers, for he ^(B)sought the welfare of his people and spoke peace to all his people.

^23 (A)At the beginning of your pleas for mercy a word went out, ^(B)and I have come to tell it to you, for ^(C)you are greatly loved. Therefore consider the word ^(D)and understand the vision.

¹³ Then I saw that there is more gain in wisdom than in folly, as there is more gain in light than in darkness.
