¹⁷ Then Daniel answered the king, “You may keep your gifts for yourself and give your rewards to someone else.^(A) Nevertheless, I will read the writing for the king and tell him what it means.

¹⁶ The prophet answered, “As surely as the Lord lives, whom I serve, I will not accept a thing.” And even though Naaman urged him, he refused.^(A)

²³ that I will accept nothing belonging to you,^(A) not even a thread or the strap of a sandal, so that you will never be able to say, ‘I made Abram rich.’

²⁰ Peter answered: “May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money!^(A)

²⁹ Then at Belshazzar’s command, Daniel was clothed in purple, a gold chain was placed around his neck,^(A) and he was proclaimed the third highest ruler in the kingdom.^(B)

⁶ But if you tell me the dream and explain it, you will receive from me gifts and rewards and great honor.^(A) So tell me the dream and interpret it for me.”

²⁶ But Elisha said to him, “Was not my spirit with you when the man got down from his chariot to meet you? Is this the time^(A) to take money or to accept clothes—or olive groves and vineyards, or flocks and herds, or male and female slaves?^(B)

¹³ Elisha said to the king of Israel, “Why do you want to involve me? Go to the prophets of your father and the prophets of your mother.”

“No,” the king of Israel answered, “because it was the Lord who called us three kings together to deliver us into the hands of Moab.”
