The King Who Exalts Himself

³⁶ “The king will do as he pleases. He will exalt and magnify himself^(A) above every god and will say unheard-of things^(B) against the God of gods.^(C) He will be successful until the time of wrath^(D) is completed, for what has been determined must take place.^(E)

⁵ The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies^(A) and to exercise its authority for forty-two months.^{(B) 6} It opened its mouth to blaspheme God, and to slander his name and his dwelling place and those who live in heaven.^(C)

⁴ He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God^(A) or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.^(B)

¹⁹ He said: “I am going to tell you what will happen later in the time of wrath,^(A) because the vision concerns the appointed time^(B) of the end.^[a](C)

¹⁷ For the Lord your God is God of gods^(A) and Lord of lords,^(B) the great God, mighty and awesome,^(C) who shows no partiality^(D) and accepts no bribes.^(E)

¹⁶ The invader will do as he pleases;^(A) no one will be able to stand against him.^(B) He will establish himself in the Beautiful Land and will have the power to destroy it.^(C)

⁴⁷ The king said to Daniel, “Surely your God is the God of gods^(A) and the Lord of kings^(B) and a revealer of mysteries,^(C) for you were able to reveal this mystery.^(D)”

⁷ But in the days when the seventh angel is about to sound his trumpet,^(A) the mystery^(B) of God will be accomplished, just as he announced to his servants the prophets.”^(C)
