³⁵ Some of the wise will stumble, so that they may be refined,^(A) purified and made spotless until the time of the end, for it will still come at the appointed time.

² But who can endure^(A) the day of his coming?^(B) Who can stand^(C) when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire^(D) or a launderer’s soap.^{(E) 3} He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver;^(F) he will purify^(G) the Levites and refine them like gold and silver.^(H) Then the Lord will have men who will bring offerings in righteousness,^{(I) 4} and the offerings^(J) of Judah and Jerusalem will be acceptable to the Lord, as in days gone by, as in former years.^(K)

¹⁰ Many will be purified, made spotless and refined,^(A) but the wicked will continue to be wicked.^(B) None of the wicked will understand, but those who are wise will understand.^(C)

¹¹ “From the time that the daily sacrifice^(D) is abolished and the abomination that causes desolation^(E) is set up, there will be 1,290 days.^(F)

And he said, “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes^(A) and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.^(B)

⁶ In all this you greatly rejoice,^(A) though now for a little while^(B) you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.^{(C) 7} These have come so that the proven genuineness^(D) of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire^(E)—may result in praise, glory and honor^(F) when Jesus Christ is revealed.^(G)
