¹⁷ How can my lord's servant talk with my lord? For now no strength remains in me, and no breath is left in me.”

Isaiah's Vision of the Lord

6 In the year that ^(A)King Uzziah died I ^(B)saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train^[a] of his robe filled the temple. ² Above him stood the seraphim. Each had ^(C)six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. ³ And one called to another and said:

⁴ And ^(F)the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and ^(G)the house was filled with smoke. ⁵ And I said: “Woe is me! ^(H)For I am lost; ^(I)for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the ^(J)King, the Lord of hosts!”

¹⁰ and they ^(A)saw the God of Israel. There was under his feet as it were a pavement of ^(B)sapphire stone, like the very heaven for clearness. ¹¹ And he did not lay his hand on the chief men of the people of Israel; they beheld God, and ^(C)ate and drank.

^18 (A)No one has ever seen God; ^(B)the only God,^[a] who is at the Father's side,^{[b] (C)}he has made him known.

³⁶ David himself, ^(A)in the Holy Spirit, declared,

⁴³ He said to them, “How is it then that David, ^(A)in the Spirit, calls him Lord, saying,

²¹ The angel of the Lord appeared no more to Manoah and to his wife. ^(A)Then Manoah knew that he was the angel of the Lord. ²² And Manoah said to his wife, ^(B)“We shall surely die, for we have seen God.” ²³ But his wife said to him, “If the Lord had meant to kill us, he would not have accepted a burnt offering and a grain offering at our hands, or shown us all these things, or now announced to us such things as these.”

²² Then Gideon perceived that he was the angel of the Lord. And Gideon said, ^(A)“Alas, O Lord God! For now I have seen the angel of the Lord face to face.”

²⁰ But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for ^(A)man shall not see me and live.”
