¹² “Please test your servants for ten days, and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink.

¹⁶ Thus ^[a]the steward took away their portion of delicacies and the wine that they were to drink, and gave them vegetables.

² For one believes he ^(A)may eat all things, but he who is weak eats only vegetables.

²⁹ And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; ^(A)to you it shall be for food. ³⁰ Also, to ^(B)every beast of the earth, to every ^(C)bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is ^[a]life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so.

³ So He humbled you, ^(A)allowed you to hunger, and ^(B)fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall ^(C)not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.
