But now (A)you must put them all away: (B)anger, wrath, malice, (C)slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. (D)Do not lie to one another, seeing that (E)you have put off (F)the old self[a] with its practices 10 and (G)have put on (H)the new self, (I)which is being renewed in knowledge (J)after the image of (K)its creator. 11 (L)Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave,[b] free; but Christ is (M)all, and in all.

12 (N)Put on then, as (O)God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, (P)compassionate hearts, (Q)kindness, (R)humility, meekness, and patience, 13 (S)bearing with one another and, (T)if one has a complaint against another, (U)forgiving each other; (V)as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on (W)love, which (X)binds everything together in (Y)perfect harmony. 15 And let (Z)the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called (AA)in one body. And (AB)be thankful. 16 Let (AC)the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, (AD)singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, (AE)with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 And (AF)whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, (AG)giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Rules for Christian Households

18 (AH)Wives, submit to your husbands, as (AI)is fitting in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives, and (AJ)do not be harsh with them. 20 Children, obey your parents (AK)in everything, for this pleases the Lord. 21 Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged. 22 Slaves,[c] obey (AL)in everything those who are your earthly masters,[d] not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. 23 (AM)Whatever you do, work heartily, (AN)as for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord (AO)you will receive the inheritance as your reward. (AP)You are serving the Lord Christ. 25 For the wrongdoer will be paid back for the wrong he has done, and there is no partiality.

Masters, treat your slaves[e] justly and fairly, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven.

Wives and Husbands

22 (A)Wives, (B)submit to your own husbands, (C)as to the Lord. 23 For (D)the husband is the head of the wife even as (E)Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is (F)himself its Saviour. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit (G)in everything to their husbands.

25 (H)Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and (I)gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by (J)the washing of water (K)with the word, 27 so (L)that he might present the church to himself in splendour, (M)without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.[a] 28 In the same way (N)husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, 30 because (O)we are members of his body. 31 (P)“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and (Q)the two shall become one flesh.” 32 This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. 33 However, (R)let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she (S)respects her husband.

Children and Parents

(T)Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. (U)“Honour your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, (V)but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

Slaves and Masters

(W)Slaves,[b] obey your earthly masters[c] with fear and trembling, (X)with a sincere heart, (Y)as you would Christ, not by the way of eye-service, as (Z)people-pleasers, but as servants[d] of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man, (AA)knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, (AB)whether he is a slave or free. Masters, do the same to them, (AC)and stop your threatening, knowing that (AD)he who is both their Master[e] and yours is in heaven, and that (AE)there is no partiality with him.
