16 Therefore, don’t let anyone judge(A) you in regard to food and drink(B) or in the matter of a festival or a new moon(C) or a Sabbath day.[a] 17 These are a shadow(D) of what was to come;(E) the substance is[b] Christ.(F) 18 Let no one condemn[c] you(G) by delighting in ascetic practices(H) and the worship of angels, claiming access to a visionary realm. Such people are inflated(I) by empty notions of their unspiritual[d] mind. 19 They don’t hold on to the head, from whom the whole body,(J) nourished and held together by its ligaments and tendons, grows with growth from God.

And Christ himself is that reality. 18 Don’t let anyone condemn you by insisting on pious self-denial or the worship of angels,[a] saying they have had visions about these things. Their sinful minds have made them proud, 19 and they are not connected to Christ, the head of the body. For he holds the whole body together with its joints and ligaments, and it grows as God nourishes it.
