Colossians 1

New International Version

1 Paul, an apostle^(A) of Christ Jesus by the will of God,^(B) and Timothy^(C) our brother,

²To God’s holy people in Colossae, the faithful brothers and sisters^[a] in Christ:

Grace^(D) and peace to you from God our Father.^[b]^(E)

Thanksgiving and Prayer

³We always thank God,^(F) the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, ⁴because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love^(G) you have for all God’s people^(H)— ⁵the faith and love that spring from the hope^(I) stored up for you in heaven^(J) and about which you have already heard in the true message^(K) of the gospel ⁶that has come to you. In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit^(L) and growing throughout the whole world^(M)—just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace. ⁷You learned it from Epaphras,^(N) our dear fellow servant,^[c] who is a faithful minister^(O) of Christ on our^[d] behalf, ⁸and who also told us of your love in the Spirit.^(P)

⁹For this reason, since the day we heard about you,^(Q) we have not stopped praying for you.^(R) We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will^(S) through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives,^[e]^(T) ¹⁰so that you may live a life worthy^(U) of the Lord and please him^(V) in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,^(W) ¹¹being strengthened with all power^(X) according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience,^(Y) ¹²and giving joyful thanks to the Father,^(Z) who has qualified you^[f] to share in the inheritance^(AA) of his holy people in the kingdom of light.^(AB) ¹³For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness^(AC) and brought us into the kingdom^(AD) of the Son he loves,^(AE) ¹⁴in whom we have redemption,^(AF) the forgiveness of sins.^(AG)

The Supremacy of the Son of God

¹⁵The Son is the image^(AH) of the invisible God,^(AI) the firstborn^(AJ) over all creation. ¹⁶For in him all things were created:^(AK) things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities;^(AL) all things have been created through him and for him.^(AM) ¹⁷He is before all things,^(AN) and in him all things hold together. ¹⁸And he is the head^(AO) of the body, the church;^(AP) he is the beginning and the firstborn^(AQ) from among the dead,^(AR) so that in everything he might have the supremacy. ¹⁹For God was pleased^(AS) to have all his fullness^(AT) dwell in him, ²⁰and through him to reconcile^(AU) to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven,^(AV) by making peace^(AW) through his blood,^(AX) shed on the cross.

²¹Once you were alienated from God and were enemies^(AY) in your minds^(AZ) because of^[g] your evil behavior. ²²But now he has reconciled^(BA) you by Christ’s physical body^(BB) through death to present you^(BC) holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation^(BD)— ²³if you continue^(BE) in your faith, established^(BF) and firm, and do not move from the hope^(BG) held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven,^(BH) and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.^(BI)

Paul’s Labor for the Church

²⁴Now I rejoice^(BJ) in what I am suffering for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions,^(BK) for the sake of his body, which is the church.^(BL) ²⁵I have become its servant^(BM) by the commission God gave me^(BN) to present to you the word of God^(BO) in its fullness— ²⁶the mystery^(BP) that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people. ²⁷To them God has chosen to make known^(BQ) among the Gentiles the glorious riches^(BR) of this mystery, which is Christ in you,^(BS) the hope of glory.

²⁸He is the one we proclaim, admonishing^(BT) and teaching everyone with all wisdom,^(BU) so that we may present everyone fully mature^(BV) in Christ. ²⁹To this end I strenuously^(BW) contend^(BX) with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.^(BY)

1 Pablo, apóstol de Jesucristo por voluntad de Dios, y el hermano Timoteo,

²a los santos y fieles hermanos en Cristo que están en Colosas: Gracia y paz sean a vosotros, de parte de Dios nuestro Padre y del Señor Jesucristo.

Pablo pide que Dios les conceda sabiduría espiritual

³Damos gracias al Dios y Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, orando siempre por vosotros,

⁴habiendo oído de vuestra fe en Cristo Jesús, y del amor que tenéis hacia todos los santos,

⁵a causa de la esperanza que os está reservada en los cielos, de la cual ya oísteis antes por la palabra verdadera del evangelio,

⁶el cual ha llegado hasta vosotros, así como a todo el mundo, y está llevando fruto y creciendo también en vosotros, desde el día que lo oísteis y comprendisteis la gracia de Dios en verdad,

⁷como lo habéis aprendido de Epafras, nuestro consiervo amado, que es un fiel ministro de Cristo en nuestro lugar,

⁸quien también nos ha informado de vuestro amor en el Espíritu.

⁹Por lo cual también nosotros, desde el día que lo oímos, no cesamos de orar por vosotros, y de pedir que seáis llenos del cabal conocimiento de su voluntad en toda sabiduría e inteligencia espiritual,

¹⁰para que andéis como es digno del Señor, agradándole en todo, llevando fruto en toda buena obra, y creciendo en el pleno conocimiento de Dios;

¹¹fortalecidos con todo poder, conforme a la potencia de su gloria, para toda paciencia y longanimidad;

¹²con gozo dando gracias al Padre que nos hizo aptos para participar de la herencia de los santos en luz;

¹³el cual nos ha librado de la potestad de las tinieblas, y trasladado al reino de su amado Hijo,

¹⁴en quien tenemos redención por medio de su sangre, el perdón de pecados.

La supremacía de Cristo

¹⁵El cual es la imagen del Dios invisible, el primogénito de toda creación.

¹⁶Porque por él fueron creadas todas las cosas, las que hay en los cielos y las que hay en la tierra, las visibles y las invisibles; sean tronos, sean dominios, sean principados, sean potestades; todo fue creado por medio de él y para él.

¹⁷Y él es antes de todas las cosas, y todas las cosas tienen consistencia en él;

¹⁸y él es la cabeza del cuerpo que es la iglesia, y él es el principio, el primogénito de entre los muertos, para que en todo tenga la preeminencia;

¹⁹por cuanto tuvo a bien el Padre que en él habitase toda plenitud,

²⁰y por medio de él reconciliar consigo todas las cosas, así las que están en la tierra como las que están en los cielos, haciendo la paz mediante la sangre de su cruz.

²¹Y a vosotros también, que erais en otro tiempo extraños y enemigos en vuestra mente, haciendo malas obras, ahora os ha reconciliado

²²en su cuerpo de carne, por medio de la muerte, para presentaros santos y sin mancha e irreprensibles delante de él;

²³si en verdad permanecéis fundados y firmes en la fe, y sin moveros de la esperanza del evangelio que habéis oído, el cual ha sido proclamado en toda la creación que está debajo del cielo; del cual yo, Pablo, fui hecho ministro.

Ministerio de Pablo a los gentiles

²⁴Ahora me gozo en mis padecimientos por vosotros, y completo en mi carne lo que falta de las aflicciones de Cristo por su cuerpo, que es la iglesia;

²⁵de la cual fui hecho ministro, según la administración de Dios que me fue dada para con vosotros, para anunciar cumplidamente la palabra de Dios,

²⁶el misterio que había estado oculto desde los siglos y generaciones pasadas, pero que ahora ha sido manifestado a sus santos,

²⁷a quienes Dios quiso dar a conocer cuáles son las riquezas de la gloria de este misterio entre los gentiles; que es Cristo en vosotros, la esperanza de la gloria,

²⁸a quien nosotros anunciamos, amonestando a todo hombre, y enseñando a todo hombre en toda sabiduría, a fin de presentar perfecto en Cristo Jesús a todo hombre;

²⁹para lo cual también trabajo, luchando según la potencia de él, la cual actúa poderosamente en mí.

Their Faith in Christ

³^(D)We give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, ⁴^(E)since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of ^(F)your love for all the saints; ⁵because of the hope ^(G)which is laid up for you in heaven, of which you heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel, ⁶which has come to you, ^(H)as it has also in all the world, and ^(I)is bringing forth ^[b]fruit, as it is also among you since the day you heard and knew ^(J)the grace of God in truth; ⁷as you also learned from ^(K)Epaphras, our dear fellow servant, who is ^(L)a faithful minister of Christ on your behalf, ⁸who also declared to us your ^(M)love in the Spirit.

Preeminence of Christ

⁹^(N)For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask ^(O)that you may be filled with ^(P)the knowledge of His will ^(Q)in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; ¹⁰^(R)that you may walk worthy of the Lord, ^(S)fully pleasing Him, ^(T)being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the ^(U)knowledge of God; ¹¹^(V)strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, ^(W)for all patience and longsuffering ^(X)with joy; ¹²^(Y)giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of ^(Z)the inheritance of the saints in the light. ¹³He has delivered us from ^(AA)the power of darkness ^(AB)and ^[c]conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, ¹⁴^(AC)in whom we have redemption ^[d]through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

²¹And you, ^(AQ)who once were alienated and enemies in your mind ^(AR)by wicked works, yet now He has ^(AS)reconciled ²²^(AT)in the body of His flesh through death, ^(AU)to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight— ²³if indeed you continue ^(AV)in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are ^(AW)not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, ^(AX)which was preached to every creature under heaven, ^(AY)of which I, Paul, became a minister.

Sacrificial Service for Christ

²⁴^(AZ)I now rejoice in my sufferings ^(BA)for you, and fill up in my flesh ^(BB)what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for ^(BC)the sake of His body, which is the church, ²⁵of which I became a minister according to ^(BD)the ^[g]stewardship from God which was given to me for you, to fulfill the word of God, ²⁶^(BE)the ^[h]mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, ^(BF)but now has been revealed to His saints. ²⁷^(BG)To them God willed to make known what are ^(BH)the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: ^[i]which is ^(BI)Christ in you, ^(BJ)the hope of glory. ²⁸Him we preach, ^(BK)warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, ^(BL)that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus. ²⁹To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me ^(BM)mightily.
