¹⁵The Son is the image of the invisible God,
the one who is first over all creation,^[a]

¹⁶Because all things were created by him:
        both in the heavens and on the earth,
        the things that are visible and the things that are invisible.
            Whether they are thrones or powers,
            or rulers or authorities,
        all things were created through him and for him.

¹⁷He existed before all things,
and all things are held together in him.

¹⁸He is the head of the body, the church,
who is the beginning,
the one who is firstborn from among the dead^[b]
so that he might occupy the first place in everything.

¹⁹Because all the fullness of God was pleased to live in him,
²⁰        and he reconciled all things to himself through him—
        whether things on earth or in the heavens.
            He brought peace through the blood of his cross.

100 Shout triumphantly to the Lord, all the earth!
²    Serve the Lord with celebration!
    Come before him with shouts of joy!
³Know that the Lord is God—
    he made us; we belong to him.^[a]
    We are his people,
    the sheep of his own pasture.
⁴Enter his gates with thanks;
    enter his courtyards with praise!
    Thank him! Bless his name!
⁵Because the Lord is good,
    his loyal love lasts forever;
    his faithfulness lasts generation after generation.

The old and the new

³³Some people said to Jesus, “The disciples of John fast often and pray frequently. The disciples of the Pharisees do the same, but your disciples are always eating and drinking.”

³⁴Jesus replied, “You can’t make the wedding guests fast while the groom is with them, can you? ³⁵The days will come when the groom will be taken from them, and then they will fast.”

³⁶Then he told them a parable. “No one tears a patch from a new garment to patch an old garment. Otherwise, the new garment would be ruined, and the new patch wouldn’t match the old garment. ³⁷Nobody pours new wine into old wineskins. If they did, the new wine would burst the wineskins, the wine would spill, and the wineskins would be ruined. ³⁸Instead, new wine must be put into new wineskins. ³⁹No one who drinks a well-aged wine wants new wine, but says, ‘The well-aged wine is better.’”
