20 If with Christ (A)you died to the (B)elemental spirits of the world, (C)why, as if you were still alive in the world, do you submit to regulations— 21 (D)“Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch” 22 ((E)referring to things that all perish as they are used)—according to (F)human precepts and teachings? 23 These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in (G)promoting self-made religion and asceticism and severity to the body, but they are (H)of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh.

Put On the New Self

(I)If then you have been raised with Christ, seek (J)the things that are above, where Christ is, (K)seated at the right hand of God. (L)Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For (M)you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ (N)who is your[a] life (O)appears, then you also will appear with him (P)in glory.

(Q)Put to death therefore (R)what is earthly in you:[b] (S)sexual immorality, impurity, (T)passion, evil desire, and covetousness, (U)which is idolatry. (V)On account of these the wrath of God is coming.[c] (W)In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. But now (X)you must put them all away: (Y)anger, wrath, malice, (Z)slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. (AA)Do not lie to one another, seeing that (AB)you have put off (AC)the old self[d] with its practices 10 and (AD)have put on (AE)the new self, (AF)which is being renewed in knowledge (AG)after the image of (AH)its creator. 11 (AI)Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave,[e] free; but Christ is (AJ)all, and in all.

20 Since you died with Christ(A) to the elemental spiritual forces of this world,(B) why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules:(C) 21 “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”? 22 These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish(D) with use, are based on merely human commands and teachings.(E) 23 Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility(F) and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.

Living as Those Made Alive in Christ

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ,(G) set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.(H) Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.(I) For you died,(J) and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your[a] life,(K) appears,(L) then you also will appear with him in glory.(M)

Put to death,(N) therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature:(O) sexual immorality,(P) impurity, lust, evil desires and greed,(Q) which is idolatry.(R) Because of these, the wrath of God(S) is coming.[b] You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived.(T) But now you must also rid yourselves(U) of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander,(V) and filthy language from your lips.(W) Do not lie to each other,(X) since you have taken off your old self(Y) with its practices 10 and have put on the new self,(Z) which is being renewed(AA) in knowledge in the image of its Creator.(AB) 11 Here there is no Gentile or Jew,(AC) circumcised or uncircumcised,(AD) barbarian, Scythian, slave or free,(AE) but Christ is all,(AF) and is in all.
