43 And the ra’av (famine) was kaved (heavy, severe) in the land.
2 And it came to pass, when they had eaten up the shever (grain) which they had brought out of Mitzrayim, then Avihem said unto them, Shuvu (return)! Buy for us a little ochel.
3 And Yehudah spoke unto him, saying, The ish did solemnly warn us, saying, Ye shall not see my face, unless achichem be with you.
4 If thou wilt send achinu (our brother) with us, we will go down and buy thee ochel;
5 But if thou wilt not send him, we will not go down; for the ish said unto us, Ye shall not see my face, unless achichem be with you.
6 And Yisroel said, Why dealt ye so ill with me, as to tell the ish whether ye had yet another ach (brother)?
7 And they said, The ish asked in detail about us and about our moledet (kindred), saying, Is Avichem yet alive? Have ye another ach? And we declared to him according to these words of [his inquiry]; could we certainly know that he would say, Bring down achichem?
8 And Yehudah said unto Yisroel Aviv, Send na’ar with me, and we will arise and go; that we may live, and not die, both we, and thou, and also our little ones.
9 I will be surety for him; of my yad shalt thou require an accounting for him; if I bring him not back unto thee, and set him before thee, then let me bear the blame kol hayamim;
10 For if we had not delayed, surely now we had returned zeh pa’amayim (this second time).
11 And Yisroel Avihem said unto them, If it must be so now, do this; take of mizimerat HaAretz (the best fruits of the land) in your kelim (vessels), and carry down to the ish a minchah (present), a little balm, and a little devash (honey), nekhot (spices), loht (myrrh), batenim (pistachio nuts), and shekedim (almonds):
12 And take kesef mishneh (double money) in your yad; and the kesef that was returned in the mouth of your sacks, carry it back in your yad; perhaps it was mishgeh (mistake);
13 Take also achichem, and arise, shuvu (return) unto the ish;
14 And El Shaddai give you rachamim before the ish, that he may send away achichem acher (your other brother), and Binyamin. If I be bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.
15 And the anashim took that minchah, and they took mishneh kesef (double money) in their yad and Binyamin; and rose up, and went down to Mitzrayim, and stood before Yosef.
16 And when Yosef saw Binyamin with them, he said to the ish over Bais Yosef, Bring these anashim home, and slaughter the tevach, and make ready; for these anashim shall dine with me at tzahorayim (noon).
17 And the ish did as Yosef said; and the ish brought the anashim to the house of Yosef.
18 And the anashim were afraid, because they were brought into Bais Yosef; and they said, Because of the kesef that was returned in our sacks at the first time are we brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, and fall upon us, and seize us for avadim, and chamoreinu (our donkeys).
19 And they came near to the ish over Bais Yosef, and they spoke with him at the petach habayit,
20 And said, O adoni, we came indeed down at the first time to buy ochel:
21 And it came to pass, when we came to the malon, that we opened our sacks, and, hinei, kesef ish (every man’s money) was in the mouth of his sack, our kesef in full weight; and we have brought it back again in our yad.
22 And kesef acher (other money) have we brought down in our hands to buy ochel; we cannot tell who put our kesef in our sacks.
23 And he said, Shalom lachem, fear not; Eloheichem, and Elohei Avichem, hath given you matmon (treasure) in your sacks; I had your kesef. And he brought Shimon out unto them.
24 And the ish brought the anashim into the house of Yosef, and gave them mayim, and they washed their raglayim; and he gave their chamorim mispo (fodder).
25 And they made ready the minchah for bo Yosef (coming of Yosef) at tzahorayim; for they heard that they would eat lechem there.
26 And when Yosef came home, they presented him the minchah which was in their yad in the house, and prostrated themselves to the ground before him.
27 And he asked them l’shalom (about their welfare), and said, Is there shalom with avichem, the zaken of whom ye spoke? Is he still alive?
28 And they answered, There is shalom with thy eved avinu; he is still alive. And they bowed their heads, and prostrated themselves.
29 And he lifted up his eyes, and saw achiv Binyamin, ben immo, and said, Is this achichem hakaton (your younger brother), of whom ye spoke unto me? And he said, Elohim be gracious unto thee, beni.
30 And Yosef made haste; for his compassion was stirred upon achiv (his brother); and he sought where to weep; and he entered into his cheder, and wept there.
31 And he washed his face, and went out, and controlled himself, and said, Serve lechem.
32 And they served him by himself, and them by themselves, and the Mitzrim (Egyptians), which did eat with him, by themselves; because Mitzrim could not eat lechem with the Ivrim; for that is a to’evah (abomination) unto the Mitzrim.
33 And they sat before him, the bechor according to his bechorah (birthright), and the youngest according to his youth; and the anashim marvelled one with another.
34 And he took and sent masot (portions) unto them from before him; but masat Binyamin was five times as much as any of theirs. And they drank, and feasted with him.

3 And Judah spake unto him, saying, The man did solemnly protest unto us, saying, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.
4 If thou wilt send our brother with us, we will go down and buy thee food:
5 But if thou wilt not send him, we will not go down: for the man said unto us, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.
6 And Israel said, Wherefore dealt ye so ill with me, as to tell the man whether ye had yet a brother?
7 And they said, The man asked us straitly of our state, and of our kindred, saying, Is your father yet alive? have ye another brother? and we told him according to the tenor of these words: could we certainly know that he would say, Bring your brother down?
8 And Judah said unto Israel his father, Send the lad with me, and we will arise and go; that we may live, and not die, both we, and thou, and also our little ones.
9 I will be surety for him; of my hand shalt thou require him: if I bring him not unto thee, and set him before thee, then let me bear the blame for ever:
10 For except we had lingered, surely now we had returned this second time.
11 And their father Israel said unto them, If it must be so now, do this; take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down the man a present, a little balm, and a little honey, spices, and myrrh, nuts, and almonds:
12 And take double money in your hand; and the money that was brought again in the mouth of your sacks, carry it again in your hand; peradventure it was an oversight:
13 Take also your brother, and arise, go again unto the man:
14 And God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may send away your other brother, and Benjamin. If I be bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.
15 And the men took that present, and they took double money in their hand and Benjamin; and rose up, and went down to Egypt, and stood before Joseph.
16 And when Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the ruler of his house, Bring these men home, and slay, and make ready; for these men shall dine with me at noon.
17 And the man did as Joseph bade; and the man brought the men into Joseph's house.
18 And the men were afraid, because they were brought into Joseph's house; and they said, Because of the money that was returned in our sacks at the first time are we brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, and fall upon us, and take us for bondmen, and our asses.
19 And they came near to the steward of Joseph's house, and they communed with him at the door of the house,
20 And said, O sir, we came indeed down at the first time to buy food:
21 And it came to pass, when we came to the inn, that we opened our sacks, and, behold, every man's money was in the mouth of his sack, our money in full weight: and we have brought it again in our hand.
22 And other money have we brought down in our hands to buy food: we cannot tell who put our money in our sacks.
23 And he said, Peace be to you, fear not: your God, and the God of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks: I had your money. And he brought Simeon out unto them.
24 And the man brought the men into Joseph's house, and gave them water, and they washed their feet; and he gave their asses provender.
25 And they made ready the present against Joseph came at noon: for they heard that they should eat bread there.
26 And when Joseph came home, they brought him the present which was in their hand into the house, and bowed themselves to him to the earth.
27 And he asked them of their welfare, and said, Is your father well, the old man of whom ye spake? Is he yet alive?
28 And they answered, Thy servant our father is in good health, he is yet alive. And they bowed down their heads, and made obeisance.
29 And he lifted up his eyes, and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother's son, and said, Is this your younger brother, of whom ye spake unto me? And he said, God be gracious unto thee, my son.
30 And Joseph made haste; for his bowels did yearn upon his brother: and he sought where to weep; and he entered into his chamber, and wept there.
31 And he washed his face, and went out, and refrained himself, and said, Set on bread.
32 And they set on for him by himself, and for them by themselves, and for the Egyptians, which did eat with him, by themselves: because the Egyptians might not eat bread with the Hebrews; for that is an abomination unto the Egyptians.
33 And they sat before him, the firstborn according to his birthright, and the youngest according to his youth: and the men marvelled one at another.
34 And he took and sent messes unto them from before him: but Benjamin's mess was five times so much as any of their's. And they drank, and were merry with him.

Joseph's Brothers Return to Egypt
43 Now the famine was (A)severe in the land. 2 And when they had eaten the grain that they had brought from Egypt, their father said to them, “Go again, buy us a little food.” 3 But Judah said to him, “The man solemnly warned us, saying, ‘You shall not see my face unless your (B)brother is with you.’ 4 If you will send our brother with us, we will go down and buy you food. 5 But if you will not send him, we will not go down, for the man said to us, ‘You shall not see my face, unless your brother is with you.’” 6 Israel said, “Why did you treat me so badly as to tell the man that you had another brother?” 7 They replied, “The man questioned us carefully about ourselves and our kindred, saying, ‘Is your father still alive? Do you have another brother?’ What we told him was in answer to these questions. Could we in any way know that he would say, ‘Bring your brother down’?” 8 And Judah said to Israel his father, “Send the boy with me, and we will arise and go, that we may (C)live and not die, both we and you and also our little ones. 9 I will be a pledge of his safety. From my hand you shall require him. (D)If I do not bring him back to you and set him before you, then let me bear the blame forever. 10 If we had not delayed, we would now have returned twice.”
11 Then their father Israel said to them, “If it must be so, then do this: take some of the choice fruits of the land in your bags, and carry a present down to the man, a little (E)balm and a little honey, gum, myrrh, pistachio nuts, and almonds. 12 Take double the money with you. Carry back with you the money (F)that was returned in the mouth of your sacks. Perhaps it was an oversight. 13 Take also your brother, and arise, go again to the man. 14 May (G)God Almighty[a] (H)grant you mercy before the man, and may he send back your other brother and Benjamin. And as for me, (I)if I am bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.”
15 So the men took this present, and they took double the money with them, and Benjamin. They arose and went down to Egypt and stood before Joseph.
16 When Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the (J)steward of his house, “Bring the men into the house, and slaughter an animal and make ready, for the men are to dine with me at noon.” 17 The man did as Joseph told him and brought the men to Joseph's house. 18 And the men were afraid because they were brought to Joseph's house, and they said, “It is because of the money, which was replaced in our sacks the first time, that we are brought in, so that he may assault us and fall upon us to make us servants and seize our donkeys.” 19 So they went up to the steward of Joseph's house and spoke with him at the door of the house, 20 and said, (K)“Oh, my lord, (L)we came down the first time to buy food. 21 And (M)when we came to the lodging place we opened our sacks, and there was each man's money in the mouth of his sack, our money in full weight. So we have brought it again with us, 22 and we have brought other money down with us to buy food. We do not know who put our money in our sacks.” 23 He replied, “Peace to you, do not be afraid. Your God and the God of your father has put treasure in your sacks for you. I received your money.” Then he brought Simeon out to them. 24 And when the man had brought the men into Joseph's house and (N)given them water, and they had washed their feet, and when he had given their donkeys fodder, 25 they prepared (O)the present for Joseph's coming at noon, for they heard that they should eat bread there.
26 When Joseph came home, they brought into the house to him the present that they had with them and (P)bowed down to him to the ground. 27 And he inquired about their welfare and said, “Is your father well, the old man (Q)of whom you spoke? Is he still alive?” 28 They said, “Your servant our father is well; he is still alive.” And they (R)bowed their heads and prostrated themselves. 29 And he lifted up his eyes and saw his brother Benjamin, (S)his mother's son, and said, “Is this your youngest brother, (T)of whom you spoke to me? God be gracious to you, my son!” 30 Then Joseph hurried out, for (U)his compassion grew warm for his brother, and he sought a place to weep. And he entered his chamber and (V)wept there. 31 Then he washed his face and came out. And (W)controlling himself he said, “Serve the food.” 32 They served him by himself, and them by themselves, and the Egyptians who ate with him by themselves, because the Egyptians could not eat with the Hebrews, for that is (X)an abomination to the Egyptians. 33 And they sat before him, the firstborn according to his birthright and the youngest according to his youth. And the men looked at one another in amazement. 34 (Y)Portions were taken to them from Joseph's table, but Benjamin's portion was (Z)five times as much as any of theirs. Benjamin reser till Josef
43 Men det fanns inget som kunde lindra den fruktansvärda svälten i landet.
2 När säden som de hade fört med sig från Egypten nästan var slut, sa fadern till dem: Res dit igen och köp lite mat åt oss.
3-5 Men Juda sa till honom: Mannen menade allvar när han sa: 'Kom inte tillbaka igen utan er bror.' Vi kan inte resa, om inte Benjamin får följa med oss.
6 Varför berättade ni att ni hade en bror till? klagade Israel. Varför har ni gjort detta mot mig?
7 Men mannen frågade speciellt om vår familj, berättade de för honom. Han ville veta om vår far fortfarande levde, och han frågade om vi hade ytterligare någon bror, och därför berättade vi det för honom. Hur kunde vi veta att han skulle säga: 'För hit er bror?'
8 Juda sa till sin far: Skicka pojken med mig, så att vi kan ge oss av, annars kommer vi att dö av svält och inte bara vi, utan också du och alla våra små barn.
9 Jag garanterar hans trygghet. Om jag inte för honom tillbaka, så låt mig bära skulden i evighet,
10 för vi hade kunnat resa dit och vara hemma igen för länge sedan, om du bara hade låtit honom följa med oss.
11 Slutligen sa fadern till dem: Om det inte kan undvikas, så se åtminstone till att lasta era åsnor med landets bästa produkter. Ta med dem till mannen som gåvor: balsam, honung, kryddor, myrra, pistagenötter och mandlar.
12 Ta med er dubbelt så mycket pengar, så att ni kan betala tillbaka det som fanns i säckarna, eftersom det förmodligen berodde på ett misstag,
13 och ta er bror och res iväg.
14 Måtte Gud, den Allsmäktige, ge er nåd inför mannen, så att han släpper Simeon och lämnar tillbaka Benjamin. Och om jag måste bära sorgen över deras död, så får det väl bli så.
15 Då tog de med sig gåvorna och dubbelt så mycket pengar som förra gången och även sin bror Benjamin. De skyndade sig att komma fram till Egypten och att få audiens hos Josef.
16 När Josef såg att Benjamin var med dem, sa han till sin närmaste man: Dessa män ska äta middag tillsammans med mig. För dem till mitt hem, slakta djur och gör i ordning för en stor fest.
17 Mannen gjorde som han blev tillsagd och tog dem med sig till Josefs palats,
18 men de blev rädda när de förstod vart de var på väg.Det är för att pengarna låg i säckarna, sa de. Han kommer att påstå att vi stal dem och ta oss och åsnorna tillfånga och göra oss till slavar.
19 När de kom till palatsingången, gick de fram till Josefs närmaste man
20 och sa till honom: När vi var på väg hem efter vår första resa hit till Egypten för att köpa mat,
21 stannade vi över natten på vägen och öppnade våra säckar, och pengarna som vi betalt för säden låg överst i säckarna. Här är de. Vi har tagit dem med oss tillbaka,
22 tillsammans med ytterligare pengar för att köpa säd. Vi har ingen aning om hur pengarna hamnade i säckarna.
23 Oroa er inte för det, sa Josefs närmaste man till dem. Er Gud, ja, era förfäders Gud, måste ha lagt dit dem, för vi fick pengar som betalning av er.Sedan befriade han Simeon och förde ut honom till dem.
24 De visades in i palatset och fick vatten att tvätta fötterna med, och deras åsnor fick foder.
25 De tog sedan fram sina gåvor till Josef, för de fick reda på att de skulle äta där.
26 När Josef kom hem gav de honom gåvorna och bugade sig djupt inför honom.
27 Han frågade hur de hade haft det och tillade: Och hur mår er far, den gamle mannen som ni berättade om? Lever han fortfarande?
28 Ja, svarade de. Han lever och mår bra. Sedan bugade de sig djupt inför honom igen.
29 Josef såg på sin bror Benjamin och frågade: Är det här er yngste bror, som ni berättade om? Hur mår du, min son? Måtte Gud vara nådig mot dig.
30 Sedan gick Josef snabbt ut därifrån, för han överväldigades av känslor inför mötet med brodern och blev tvungen att gå ut och gråta. Han gick till sitt privata rum och grät där.
31 Sedan tvättade han ansiktet och kom ut och försökte behärska sig och sa: Nu äter vi.
32 Josef åt för sig själv, hans bröder serverades vid ett annat bord och egyptierna vid ännu ett annat, för de föraktade hebreer och åt aldrig tillsammans med dem.
33 Josef talade om för var och en av dem var de skulle sitta och placerade dem till deras stora förvåning i åldersordning, från den äldste till den yngste!
34 Maten serverades åt dem från hans eget bord. Han gav den största portionen till Benjamin - fem gånger så mycket som till någon av de andra! De åt och drack och trivdes tillsammans.
