A Gerusalemme, Pietro giustifica la sua condotta
11 Gli apostoli e i fratelli che stavano nella Giudea vennero a sapere che anche i pagani avevano accolto la parola di Dio. 2 E quando Pietro salì a Gerusalemme, i circoncisi lo rimproveravano dicendo: 3 «Sei entrato in casa di uomini non circoncisi e hai mangiato insieme con loro!».
4 Allora Pietro raccontò per ordine come erano andate le cose, dicendo: 5 «Io mi trovavo in preghiera nella città di Giaffa e vidi in estasi una visione: un oggetto, simile a una grande tovaglia, scendeva come calato dal cielo per i quattro capi e giunse fino a me. 6 Fissandolo con attenzione, vidi in esso quadrupedi, fiere e rettili della terra e uccelli del cielo. 7 E sentii una voce che mi diceva: Pietro, àlzati, uccidi e mangia! 8 Risposi: Non sia mai, Signore, poiché nulla di profano e di immondo è entrato mai nella mia bocca. 9 Ribattè nuovamente la voce dal cielo: Quello che Dio ha purificato, tu non considerarlo profano. 10 Questo avvenne per tre volte e poi tutto fu risollevato di nuovo nel cielo. 11 Ed ecco, in quell'istante, tre uomini giunsero alla casa dove eravamo, mandati da Cesarèa a cercarmi. 12 Lo Spirito mi disse di andare con loro senza esitare. Vennero con me anche questi sei fratelli ed entrammo in casa di quell'uomo. 13 Egli ci raccontò che aveva visto un angelo presentarsi in casa sua e dirgli: Manda a Giaffa e fà venire Simone detto anche Pietro; 14 egli ti dirà parole per mezzo delle quali sarai salvato tu e tutta la tua famiglia. 15 Avevo appena cominciato a parlare quando lo Spirito Santo scese su di loro, come in principio era sceso su di noi. 16 Mi ricordai allora di quella parola del Signore che diceva: Giovanni battezzò con acqua, voi invece sarete battezzati in Spirito Santo. 17 Se dunque Dio ha dato a loro lo stesso dono che a noi per aver creduto nel Signore Gesù Cristo, chi ero io per porre impedimento a Dio?».
18 All'udir questo si calmarono e cominciarono a glorificare Dio dicendo: «Dunque anche ai pagani Dio ha concesso che si convertano perché abbiano la vita!».
Fondazione della chiesa di Antiochia
19 Intanto quelli che erano stati dispersi dopo la persecuzione scoppiata al tempo di Stefano, erano arrivati fin nella Fenicia, a Cipro e ad Antiochia e non predicavano la parola a nessuno fuorchè ai Giudei. 20 Ma alcuni fra loro, cittadini di Cipro e di Cirène, giunti ad Antiochia, cominciarono a parlare anche ai Greci, predicando la buona novella del Signore Gesù. 21 E la mano del Signore era con loro e così un gran numero credette e si convertì al Signore. 22 La notizia giunse agli orecchi della Chiesa di Gerusalemme, la quale mandò Barnaba ad Antiochia.
23 Quando questi giunse e vide la grazia del Signore, si rallegrò e, 24 da uomo virtuoso qual era e pieno di Spirito Santo e di fede, esortava tutti a perseverare con cuore risoluto nel Signore. E una folla considerevole fu condotta al Signore. 25 Barnaba poi partì alla volta di Tarso per cercare Saulo e trovatolo lo condusse ad Antiochia. 26 Rimasero insieme un anno intero in quella comunità e istruirono molta gente; ad Antiochia per la prima volta i discepoli furono chiamati Cristiani.
Barnaba e Saulo a Gerusalemme
27 In questo tempo alcuni profeti scesero ad Antiochia da Gerusalemme. 28 E uno di loro, di nome Agabo, alzatosi in piedi, annunziò per impulso dello Spirito che sarebbe scoppiata una grave carestia su tutta la terra. Ciò che di fatto avvenne sotto l'impero di Claudio. 29 Allora i discepoli si accordarono, ciascuno secondo quello che possedeva, di mandare un soccorso ai fratelli abitanti nella Giudea; 30 questo fecero, indirizzandolo agli anziani, per mezzo di Barnaba e Saulo.

11 Or gli apostoli e i fratelli che erano in Giudea vennero a sapere che anche i gentili avevano ricevuto la parola di Dio.
2 E, quando Pietro salí a Gerusalemme, quelli che erano circoncisi contendevano con lui
3 dicendo: «Tu sei entrato in casa di uomini incirconcisi e hai mangiato con loro!».
4 Ma Pietro cominciando dall'inizio, spiegò loro per ordine come si erano svolti i fatti dicendo:
5 «Io stavo pregando nella città di Ioppe, quando fui rapito in estasi ed ebbi una visione: un oggetto, simile a un gran lenzuolo tenuto per i quattro capi, scendeva come se fosse calato giú dal cielo e giunse fino a me.
6 Guardandovi attentamente dentro scorsi e vidi quadrupedi, fiere, rettili della terra e uccelli del cielo.
7 E udii una voce che mi diceva: "Pietro, alzati, ammazza e mangia".
8 Ma io dissi: "Niente affatto, Signore, poiché non mi è mai entrato in bocca nulla di impuro o di contaminato".
9 Ma la voce mi rispose per la seconda volta dal cielo: "Le cose che Dio ha purificato, non farle tu impure".
10 E ciò accadde per tre volte, poi ogni cosa fu di nuovo ritirata in cielo.
11 In quello stesso momento tre uomini, mandati a me da Cesarea, si presentarono alla casa dove mi trovavo.
12 E lo Spirito mi disse di andare con loro, senza avere alcuna esitazione. Or con me vennero anche questi sei fratelli, e cosí entrammo nella casa di quell'uomo.
13 Egli ci raccontò come aveva visto presentarsi un angelo in casa sua e dirgli: "Manda degli uomini a Ioppe e fa' chiamare Simone, soprannominato Pietro.
14 Egli ti dirà parole, per mezzo delle quali sarai salvato tu e tutta la tua casa".
15 Avevo appena cominciato a parlare quando lo Spirito Santo discese su di loro, come era sceso al principio su di noi.
16 Mi ricordai allora della parola del Signore che diceva: "Giovanni ha battezzato con acqua, ma voi sarete battezzati con lo Spirito Santo".
17 Se dunque Dio ha dato loro lo stesso dono che abbiamo ricevuto noi, che abbiamo creduto nel Signore Gesú Cristo, chi ero io da potermi opporre a Dio?».
18 Udite queste cose, essi si calmarono e glorificavano Dio, dicendo: «Dio dunque ha concesso il ravvedimento anche ai gentili per ottenere la vita!».
19 Or coloro che erano stati dispersi a motivo della persecuzione iniziata con Stefano, arrivarono fino alla Fenicia, a Cipro e ad Antiochia, annunziando la parola a nessun altro, se non ai soli Giudei.
20 Or alcuni di loro originari di Cipro e di Cirene, arrivati ad Antiochia, iniziarono a parlare ai Greci, annunziando il Signore Gesú.
21 E la mano del Signore era con loro; e un gran numero credette e si convertí al Signore.
22 La notizia di questo pervenne agli orecchi della chiesa che era in Gerusalemme; ed essi inviarono Barnaba, perché andasse fino ad Antiochia.
23 Quando egli giunse, vista la grazia di Dio, si rallegrò e esortava tutti a rimanere fedeli al Signore con fermo proponimento di cuore,
24 perché egli era un uomo dabbene, pieno di Spirito Santo e di fede. E un gran numero di persone fu aggiunto al Signore.
25 Poi Barnaba partí per andare a Tarso in cerca di Saulo e, trovatolo, lo condusse ad Antiochia.
26 E per un anno intero essi si radunarono con la chiesa e ammaestrarono un gran numero di gente; e, per la prima volta ad Antiochia, i discepoli furono chiamati Cristiani.
27 In quei giorni, alcuni profeti scesero da Gerusalemme ad Antiochia.
28 E uno di loro, di nome Agabo, si alzò e per lo Spirito predisse che ci sarebbe stata una grande carestia in tutto il mondo; e questa avvenne poi sotto Claudio Cesare.
29 Allora i discepoli, ciascuno secondo le proprie possibilità, decisero di mandare una sovvenzione ai fratelli che abitavano in Giudea.
30 E questo essi fecero, inviandola agli anziani per mezzo di Barnaba e di Saulo.

11 ηκουσαν δε οι αποστολοι και οι αδελφοι οι οντες κατα την ιουδαιαν οτι και τα εθνη εδεξαντο τον λογον του θεου
2 και οτε ανεβη πετρος εις ιεροσολυμα διεκρινοντο προς αυτον οι εκ περιτομης
3 λεγοντες οτι προς ανδρας ακροβυστιαν εχοντας εισηλθες και συνεφαγες αυτοις
4 αρξαμενος δε ο πετρος εξετιθετο αυτοις καθεξης λεγων
5 εγω ημην εν πολει ιοππη προσευχομενος και ειδον εν εκστασει οραμα καταβαινον σκευος τι ως οθονην μεγαλην τεσσαρσιν αρχαις καθιεμενην εκ του ουρανου και ηλθεν αχρις εμου
6 εις ην ατενισας κατενοουν και ειδον τα τετραποδα της γης και τα θηρια και τα ερπετα και τα πετεινα του ουρανου
7 ηκουσα δε φωνης λεγουσης μοι αναστας πετρε θυσον και φαγε
8 ειπον δε μηδαμως κυριε οτι παν κοινον η ακαθαρτον ουδεποτε εισηλθεν εις το στομα μου
9 απεκριθη δε μοι φωνη εκ δευτερου εκ του ουρανου α ο θεος εκαθαρισεν συ μη κοινου
10 τουτο δε εγενετο επι τρις και παλιν ανεσπασθη απαντα εις τον ουρανον
11 και ιδου εξαυτης τρεις ανδρες επεστησαν επι την οικιαν εν η ημην απεσταλμενοι απο καισαρειας προς με
12 ειπεν δε μοι το πνευμα συνελθειν αυτοις μηδεν διακρινομενον ηλθον δε συν εμοι και οι εξ αδελφοι ουτοι και εισηλθομεν εις τον οικον του ανδρος
13 απηγγειλεν τε ημιν πως ειδεν τον αγγελον εν τω οικω αυτου σταθεντα και ειποντα αυτω αποστειλον εις ιοππην ανδρας και μεταπεμψαι σιμωνα τον επικαλουμενον πετρον
14 ος λαλησει ρηματα προς σε εν οις σωθηση συ και πας ο οικος σου
15 εν δε τω αρξασθαι με λαλειν επεπεσεν το πνευμα το αγιον επ αυτους ωσπερ και εφ ημας εν αρχη
16 εμνησθην δε του ρηματος κυριου ως ελεγεν ιωαννης μεν εβαπτισεν υδατι υμεις δε βαπτισθησεσθε εν πνευματι αγιω
17 ει ουν την ισην δωρεαν εδωκεν αυτοις ο θεος ως και ημιν πιστευσασιν επι τον κυριον ιησουν χριστον εγω δε τις ημην δυνατος κωλυσαι τον θεον
18 ακουσαντες δε ταυτα ησυχασαν και εδοξαζον τον θεον λεγοντες αραγε και τοις εθνεσιν ο θεος την μετανοιαν εδωκεν εις ζωην
19 οι μεν ουν διασπαρεντες απο της θλιψεως της γενομενης επι στεφανω διηλθον εως φοινικης και κυπρου και αντιοχειας μηδενι λαλουντες τον λογον ει μη μονον ιουδαιοις
20 ησαν δε τινες εξ αυτων ανδρες κυπριοι και κυρηναιοι οιτινες εισελθοντες εις αντιοχειαν ελαλουν προς τους ελληνιστας ευαγγελιζομενοι τον κυριον ιησουν
21 και ην χειρ κυριου μετ αυτων πολυς τε αριθμος πιστευσας επεστρεψεν επι τον κυριον
22 ηκουσθη δε ο λογος εις τα ωτα της εκκλησιας της εν ιεροσολυμοις περι αυτων και εξαπεστειλαν βαρναβαν διελθειν εως αντιοχειας
23 ος παραγενομενος και ιδων την χαριν του θεου εχαρη και παρεκαλει παντας τη προθεσει της καρδιας προσμενειν τω κυριω
24 οτι ην ανηρ αγαθος και πληρης πνευματος αγιου και πιστεως και προσετεθη οχλος ικανος τω κυριω
25 εξηλθεν δε εις ταρσον ο βαρναβας αναζητησαι σαυλον
26 και ευρων αυτον ηγαγεν αυτον εις αντιοχειαν εγενετο δε αυτους ενιαυτον ολον συναχθηναι εν τη εκκλησια και διδαξαι οχλον ικανον χρηματισαι τε πρωτον εν αντιοχεια τους μαθητας χριστιανους
27 εν ταυταις δε ταις ημεραις κατηλθον απο ιεροσολυμων προφηται εις αντιοχειαν
28 αναστας δε εις εξ αυτων ονοματι αγαβος εσημανεν δια του πνευματος λιμον μεγαν μελλειν εσεσθαι εφ ολην την οικουμενην οστις και εγενετο επι κλαυδιου καισαρος
29 των δε μαθητων καθως ηυπορειτο τις ωρισαν εκαστος αυτων εις διακονιαν πεμψαι τοις κατοικουσιν εν τη ιουδαια αδελφοις
30 ο και εποιησαν αποστειλαντες προς τους πρεσβυτερους δια χειρος βαρναβα και σαυλου

11 2 Peter being accused for going to the Gentiles, 5 defendeth himself. 22 Barnabas is sent to Antioch, 26 where the disciples are called Christians: 28 and there Agabas foretelleth a famine to come.
1 Now [a]the Apostles and the brethren that were in Judea, heard, that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.
2 And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they of the circumcision contended against him,
3 Saying, Thou wentest into men uncircumcised, and hast eaten with them.
4 Then Peter began, and expounded the thing in order to them, saying,
5 I was in the city of Joppa, praying, and in a trance I saw this vision, A certain vessel coming down as it had been a great sheet, let down from heaven by the four corners, and it came to me,
6 Toward the which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw four footed beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the heaven.
7 Also I heard a voice, saying unto me, Arise, Peter: slay and eat.
8 And I said, God forbid, Lord: for nothing polluted or unclean hath at anytime entered into my mouth.
9 But the voice answered me the second time from heaven, The things that God hath purified, pollute thou not.
10 And this was done three times, and all were taken up again into heaven.
11 Then behold, immediately there were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from Caesarea unto me.
12 And the Spirit said unto me, that I should go with them, without doubting: moreover these six brethren came with me, and we entered into the man’s house.
13 And he showed us, how he had seen an Angel in his house, which stood and said to him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter.
14 He shall speak words unto thee, whereby both thou and all thine house shall be saved.
15 And as I began to speak, the holy Ghost fell on them, (A)even as upon us at the beginning.
16 Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, (B)John baptized with water, but ye shall be baptized with the holy Ghost.
17 For as much then as God gave them a like gift, as he did unto us, when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I could let God?
18 [b]When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.
19 ¶ [c]And they which were (C)scattered abroad because of the affliction that arose about Stephen, went throughout till they came unto Phonicia and Cyprus, and [d]Antioch, preaching the word to no man, but unto the Jews only.
20 [e]Now some of them were men of Cyprus and of Cyrene, which when they were come into Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, and preached the Lord Jesus.
21 And the hand of the Lord was with them, so that a great number believed and turned unto the Lord.
22 [f]Then tidings of those things came unto the ears of the Church, which was in Jerusalem, and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go unto Antioch.
23 Who when he was come and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted all, that with purpose of heart they would continue in the Lord.
24 For he was a good man, and full of the holy Ghost, and faith and much people joined themselves unto the Lord.
25 ¶ [g]Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus to seek Paul:
26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch: and it came to pass that a whole year they were conversant with the Church, and taught much people, insomuch that the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.
27 [h]In those days also came Prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch.
28 And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit, that there should be great famine throughout all the world, which also came to pass under Claudius Caesar.
29 [i]Then the disciples every man according to his ability, purposed to send [j]succor unto the brethren which dwelt in Judea.
30 Which thing they also did, and sent it to the Elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.
