Pietro si reca da un centurione romano
10 C'era in Cesarèa un uomo di nome Cornelio, centurione della coorte Italica, 2 uomo pio e timorato di Dio con tutta la sua famiglia; faceva molte elemosine al popolo e pregava sempre Dio. 3 Un giorno verso le tre del pomeriggio vide chiaramente in visione un angelo di Dio venirgli incontro e chiamarlo: «Cornelio!». 4 Egli lo guardò e preso da timore disse: «Che c'è, Signore?». Gli rispose: «Le tue preghiere e le tue elemosine sono salite, in tua memoria, innanzi a Dio. 5 E ora manda degli uomini a Giaffa e fà venire un certo Simone detto anche Pietro. 6 Egli è ospite presso un tal Simone conciatore, la cui casa è sulla riva del mare». 7 Quando l'angelo che gli parlava se ne fu andato, Cornelio chiamò due dei suoi servitori e un pio soldato fra i suoi attendenti e, 8 spiegata loro ogni cosa, li mandò a Giaffa.
9 Il giorno dopo, mentre essi erano per via e si avvicinavano alla città, Pietro salì verso mezzogiorno sulla terrazza a pregare. 10 Gli venne fame e voleva prendere cibo. Ma mentre glielo preparavano, fu rapito in estasi. 11 Vide il cielo aperto e un oggetto che discendeva come una tovaglia grande, calata a terra per i quattro capi. 12 In essa c'era ogni sorta di quadrupedi e rettili della terra e uccelli del cielo. 13 Allora risuonò una voce che gli diceva: «Alzati, Pietro, uccidi e mangia!». 14 Ma Pietro rispose: «No davvero, Signore, poiché io non ho mai mangiato nulla di profano e di immondo». 15 E la voce di nuovo a lui: «Ciò che Dio ha purificato, tu non chiamarlo più profano». 16 Questo accadde per tre volte; poi d'un tratto quell'oggetto fu risollevato al cielo. 17 Mentre Pietro si domandava perplesso tra sé e sé che cosa significasse ciò che aveva visto, gli uomini inviati da Cornelio, dopo aver domandato della casa di Simone, si fermarono all'ingresso. 18 Chiamarono e chiesero se Simone, detto anche Pietro, alloggiava colà. 19 Pietro stava ancora ripensando alla visione, quando lo Spirito gli disse: «Ecco, tre uomini ti cercano; 20 alzati, scendi e và con loro senza esitazione, perché io li ho mandati». 21 Pietro scese incontro agli uomini e disse: «Eccomi, sono io quello che cercate. Qual è il motivo per cui siete venuti?». 22 Risposero: «Il centurione Cornelio, uomo giusto e timorato di Dio, stimato da tutto il popolo dei Giudei, è stato avvertito da un angelo santo di invitarti nella sua casa, per ascoltare ciò che hai da dirgli». 23 Pietro allora li fece entrare e li ospitò.
Il giorno seguente si mise in viaggio con loro e alcuni fratelli di Giaffa lo accompagnarono. 24 Il giorno dopo arrivò a Cesarèa. Cornelio stava ad aspettarli ed aveva invitato i congiunti e gli amici intimi. 25 Mentre Pietro stava per entrare, Cornelio andandogli incontro si gettò ai suoi piedi per adorarlo. 26 Ma Pietro lo rialzò, dicendo: «Alzati: anch'io sono un uomo!». 27 Poi, continuando a conversare con lui, entrò e trovate riunite molte persone disse loro: 28 «Voi sapete che non è lecito per un Giudeo unirsi o incontrarsi con persone di altra razza; ma Dio mi ha mostrato che non si deve dire profano o immondo nessun uomo. 29 Per questo sono venuto senza esitare quando mi avete mandato a chiamare. Vorrei dunque chiedere: per quale ragione mi avete fatto venire?». 30 Cornelio allora rispose: «Quattro giorni or sono, verso quest'ora, stavo recitando la preghiera delle tre del pomeriggio nella mia casa, quando mi si presentò un uomo in splendida veste 31 e mi disse: Cornelio, sono state esaudite le tue preghiere e ricordate le tue elemosine davanti a Dio. 32 Manda dunque a Giaffa e fà venire Simone chiamato anche Pietro; egli è ospite nella casa di Simone il conciatore, vicino al mare. 33 Subito ho mandato a cercarti e tu hai fatto bene a venire. Ora dunque tutti noi, al cospetto di Dio, siamo qui riuniti per ascoltare tutto ciò che dal Signore ti è stato ordinato».
Discorso di Pietro presso Cornelio
34 Pietro prese la parola e disse: «In verità sto rendendomi conto che Dio non fa preferenze di persone, 35 ma chi lo teme e pratica la giustizia, a qualunque popolo appartenga, è a lui accetto. 36 Questa è la parola che egli ha inviato ai figli d'Israele, recando la buona novella della pace, per mezzo di Gesù Cristo, che è il Signore di tutti. 37 Voi conoscete ciò che è accaduto in tutta la Giudea, incominciando dalla Galilea, dopo il battesimo predicato da Giovanni; 38 cioè come Dio consacrò in Spirito Santo e potenza Gesù di Nazaret, il quale passò beneficando e risanando tutti coloro che stavano sotto il potere del diavolo, perché Dio era con lui. 39 E noi siamo testimoni di tutte le cose da lui compiute nella regione dei Giudei e in Gerusalemme. Essi lo uccisero appendendolo a una croce, 40 ma Dio lo ha risuscitato al terzo giorno e volle che apparisse, 41 non a tutto il popolo, ma a testimoni prescelti da Dio, a noi, che abbiamo mangiato e bevuto con lui dopo la sua risurrezione dai morti. 42 E ci ha ordinato di annunziare al popolo e di attestare che egli è il giudice dei vivi e dei morti costituito da Dio. 43 Tutti i profeti gli rendono questa testimonianza: chiunque crede in lui ottiene la remissione dei peccati per mezzo del suo nome».
Il battesimo dei primi pagani
44 Pietro stava ancora dicendo queste cose, quando lo Spirito Santo scese sopra tutti coloro che ascoltavano il discorso. 45 E i fedeli circoncisi, che erano venuti con Pietro, si meravigliavano che anche sopra i pagani si effondesse il dono dello Spirito Santo; 46 li sentivano infatti parlare lingue e glorificare Dio. 47 Allora Pietro disse: «Forse che si può proibire che siano battezzati con l'acqua questi che hanno ricevuto lo Spirito Santo al pari di noi?». 48 E ordinò che fossero battezzati nel nome di Gesù Cristo. Dopo tutto questo lo pregarono di fermarsi alcuni giorni.

Видение Корнилия
10 В Кесарии был человек по имени Корнилий, римский офицер из полка, носившего название Италийский. 2 Корнилий, как и вся его семья, был человеком благочестивым и боящимся Всевышнего[a], он щедро раздавал милостыню и постоянно молился Всевышнему.[b] 3 Однажды около трёх часов дня[c] Корнилию было видение. Он ясно видел ангела от Всевышнего, который явился ему и сказал:
– Корнилий!
4 Корнилий взглянул на него в ужасе и сказал:
– Что, владыка?
Ангел ответил:
– Всевышний вспомнил о тебе, потому что твои молитвы и милостыни вознеслись к Нему, как приятный запах жертвоприношения. 5 Пошли людей в Иоппию, чтобы они позвали Шимона, которого называют Петрусом, 6 он остановился у кожевника Шимона, в доме у моря.

Видение Петруса

Пока готовили пищу, Петрусу было видение. 11 Он видел раскрытые небеса и нечто похожее на широкое полотно, которое опускалось на землю, придерживаемое за четыре конца. 12 В этом полотне были всякие виды четвероногих животных, пресмыкающиеся и птицы. 13 Затем голос сказал ему:
– Встань, Петрус, заколи и съешь.
14 – Ни в коем случае, Владыка! – ответил Петрус. – Я сроду не ел ничего осквернённого или ритуально нечистого.[e]
15 Тогда голос сказал ему во второй раз:
– Не называй нечистым то, что Всевышний очистил.
16 Так было три раза, и тотчас полотно было поднято на небо.
Петрус идёт в дом Корнилия
17 Петрус всё недоумевал, что бы значило это видение, когда люди, посланные Корнилием, расспросив про дом Шимона, подошли и остановились у ворот. 18 Они стали спрашивать, здесь ли остановился Шимон, называемый Петрусом. 19 Петрус всё ещё обдумывал видение, когда Дух сказал ему:
– Тебя ищут три человека. 20 Вставай и спускайся вниз. Иди с ними без колебаний, потому что это Я их послал.
21 Петрус спустился вниз и сказал этим людям:
– Я тот, кого вы ищете. По какому делу вы пришли?
22 Они ответили:
– Римский офицер Корнилий, человек праведный и боящийся Всевышнего, уважаемый всем иудейским народом, получил от святого ангела повеление пригласить тебя в свой дом и выслушать, что ты ему скажешь.
23 Тогда Петрус пригласил их войти в дом и оказал им гостеприимство.
Петрус в доме Корнилия
На следующий день Петрус отправился с ними в сопровождении нескольких братьев из Иоппии. 24 На другой день они прибыли в Кесарию. Корнилий уже ждал их, созвав своих родственников и близких друзей. 25 Когда Петрус пришёл, Корнилий встретил его и, павши к его ногам, поклонился ему. 26 Но Петрус поднял его, сказав:
– Встань, я тоже человек.
27 Разговаривая с Корнилием, Петрус вошёл в дом, где уже собралось много народу. 28 Он сказал им:
– Вы сами знаете, что иудею возбраняется общаться с иноплеменником и заходить к нему в дом.[f] Но Всевышний показал мне, что я ни одного человека не должен называть осквернённым или нечистым, 29 и поэтому, когда за мной пришли, я пошёл без возражений. Позвольте же мне спросить теперь, зачем вы послали за мной?
30 Корнилий ответил:
– Три дня назад в это самое время, в три часа дня я молился в своём доме, как вдруг передо мной предстал человек в сверкающей одежде. 31 «Корнилий, – сказал он, – твоя молитва услышана, и твои милостыни вспомянуты Всевышним. 32 Пошли людей в Иоппию за Шимоном, которого ещё называют Петрусом, он гостит в доме кожевника Шимона, что у моря». 33 Я сразу послал за тобой, и хорошо, что ты пришёл. Сейчас все мы здесь, перед Всевышним, и хотим выслушать то, что Вечный повелел тебе сказать.
34 Петрус начал говорить:
– Теперь я понимаю, что Всевышний действительно беспристрастен, 35 и в каждом народе Ему угоден тот, кто боится Его и поступает по правде! 36 Он послал народу Исроила Радостную Весть о том, что мы можем иметь мир с Ним через Исо Масеха, Который является Повелителем всех людей. 37 Вы знаете о тех событиях, которые происходили по всей Иудее, начиная от Галилеи, после того, как Яхьё начал призывать народ пройти обряд погружения в воду[g]: 38 о том, как Всевышний помазал Святым Духом и наделил силой Исо из Назарета, и Он ходил, совершая добрые дела и исцеляя всех, кто был во власти дьявола, потому что с Ним был Всевышний. 39 Мы свидетели всему тому, что Исо делал в Иерусалиме и по всей стране иудеев. Его убили, повесив на дереве[h], 40 но Всевышний на третий день воскресил Его и дал Ему являться людям – 41 не всему народу, а заранее избранным Всевышним свидетелям, то есть нам, и мы ели и пили с Ним после того, как Он воскрес из мёртвых. 42 Он повелел нам возвещать людям Радостную Весть и свидетельствовать о том, что именно Ему Всевышний определил судить живых и мёртвых. 43 О Нём свидетельствуют все пророки, утверждая, что каждый верующий в Него получает прощение грехов благодаря Его имени.
44 Петрус ещё говорил это, когда на всех слушавших его сошёл Святой Дух. 45 Верующие из обрезанных[i], которые пришли с Петрусом, были удивлены, что дар Святого Духа был излит и на уверовавших язычников, 46 потому что они слышали, как те говорили на других языках и славили Всевышнего. Тогда Петрус сказал:
47 – Может ли кто-нибудь помешать этим людям, которые получили Святого Духа так же, как и мы, пройти обряд погружения в воду?
48 И он велел им пройти обряд погружения в воду в знак единения с Исо Масехом. Потом хозяева попросили Петруса остаться с ними ещё на несколько дней.

10 There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,
2 A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.
3 He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.
4 And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.
5 And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:
6 He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.
7 And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually;
8 And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.
9 On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:
10 And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,
11 And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending upon him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
12 Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
16 This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.
17 Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate,
18 And called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there.
19 While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.
20 Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.
21 Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?
22 And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.
23 Then called he them in, and lodged them. And on the morrow Peter went away with them, and certain brethren from Joppa accompanied him.
24 And the morrow after they entered into Caesarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and he had called together his kinsmen and near friends.
25 And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him.
26 But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.
27 And as he talked with him, he went in, and found many that were come together.
28 And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.
29 Therefore came I unto you without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for: I ask therefore for what intent ye have sent for me?
30 And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,
31 And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.
32 Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee.
33 Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.
34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
36 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)
37 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;
38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:
40 Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;
41 Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.
42 And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.
43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

Cornelius Sends a Delegation

4 And when he observed him, he was afraid, and said, “What is it, lord?”
So he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms have come up for a memorial before God. 5 Now (E)send men to Joppa, and send for Simon whose surname is Peter. 6 He is lodging with (F)Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea. (G)He[d] will tell you what you must do.” 7 And when the angel who spoke to him had departed, Cornelius called two of his household servants and a devout soldier from among those who waited on him continually. 8 So when he had explained all these things to them, he sent them to Joppa.
Peter’s Vision
9 The next day, as they went on their journey and drew near the city, (H)Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about [e]the sixth hour. 10 Then he became very hungry and wanted to eat; but while they made ready, he fell into a trance 11 and (I)saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth. 12 In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air. 13 And a voice came to him, “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.”
14 But Peter said, “Not so, Lord! (J)For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.”
15 And a voice spoke to him again the second time, (K)“What God has [f]cleansed you must not call common.” 16 This was done three times. And the object was taken up into heaven again.
Summoned to Caesarea
17 Now while Peter [g]wondered within himself what this vision which he had seen meant, behold, the men who had been sent from Cornelius had made inquiry for Simon’s house, and stood before the gate. 18 And they called and asked whether Simon, whose surname was Peter, was lodging there.
19 While Peter thought about the vision, (L)the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men are seeking you. 20 (M)Arise therefore, go down and go with them, doubting nothing; for I have sent them.”
21 Then Peter went down to the men [h]who had been sent to him from Cornelius, and said, “Yes, I am he whom you seek. For what reason have you come?”
22 And they said, “Cornelius the centurion, a just man, one who fears God and (N)has a good reputation among all the nation of the Jews, was divinely instructed by a holy angel to summon you to his house, and to hear words from you.” 23 Then he invited them in and lodged them.
On the next day Peter went away with them, (O)and some brethren from Joppa accompanied him.
Peter Meets Cornelius
24 And the following day they entered Caesarea. Now Cornelius was waiting for them, and had called together his relatives and close friends. 25 As Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshiped him. 26 But Peter lifted him up, saying, (P)“Stand up; I myself am also a man.” 27 And as he talked with him, he went in and found many who had come together. 28 Then he said to them, “You know how (Q)unlawful it is for a Jewish man to keep company with or go to one of another nation. But (R)God has shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean. 29 Therefore I came without objection as soon as I was sent for. I ask, then, for what reason have you sent for me?”
30 So Cornelius said, [i]“Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and behold, (S)a man stood before me (T)in bright clothing, 31 and said, ‘Cornelius, (U)your prayer has been heard, and (V)your [j]alms are remembered in the sight of God. 32 Send therefore to Joppa and call Simon here, whose surname is Peter. He is lodging in the house of Simon, a tanner, by the sea. [k]When he comes, he will speak to you.’ 33 So I sent to you immediately, and you have done well to come. Now therefore, we are all present before God, to hear all the things commanded you by God.”
Preaching to Cornelius’ Household
34 Then Peter opened his mouth and said: (W)“In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. 35 But (X)in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is (Y)accepted by Him. 36 The word which God sent to the [l]children of Israel, (Z)preaching peace through Jesus Christ—(AA)He is Lord of all— 37 that word you know, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, and (AB)began from Galilee after the baptism which John preached: 38 how (AC)God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who (AD)went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, (AE)for God was with Him. 39 And we are (AF)witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom [m]they (AG)killed by hanging on a tree. 40 Him (AH)God raised up on the third day, and showed Him openly, 41 (AI)not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen before by God, even to us (AJ)who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead. 42 And (AK)He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify (AL)that it is He who was ordained by God to be Judge (AM)of the living and the dead. 43 (AN)To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, (AO)whoever believes in Him will receive (AP)remission[n] of sins.”
The Holy Spirit Falls on the Gentiles
44 While Peter was still speaking these words, (AQ)the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. 45 (AR)And [o]those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, (AS)because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God.
Then Peter answered, 47 “Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit (AT)just as we have?” 48 (AU)And he commanded them to be baptized (AV)in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days.
