19 Ils se jetaient de la poussière sur la tête[a], ils criaient, pleuraient et se lamentaient :
Malheur ! Malheur ! La grande ville, dont la prospérité avait enrichi tous les armateurs des mers ! En une heure, elle a été réduite à néant !
20 Réjouis-toi de sa ruine, ciel ! Et vous, membres du peuple saint, apôtres et prophètes, réjouissez-vous ! Car en la jugeant, Dieu vous a fait justice.

21 Alors un ange puissant prit une pierre semblable à une grosse meule et la jeta dans la mer en disant :

“祸哉,祸哉,这大城!
凡有船在海中的,
都因她的珍宝成了富足。
她在一时之间就成为荒芜。
20 天哪,众圣徒、众使徒、众先知啊!
你们都要因她欢喜,
因为 神已经在她身上为你们伸了冤。”
21 有一位大力的天使举起一块石头,好像大磨石,扔在海里,说:
“巴比伦大城
也必这样猛力地被扔下去,
绝对见不到了。

19 (A) They cried loudly, and in their sorrow they threw dust on their heads, as they said,
“Pity the great city
of Babylon!
Everyone who sailed the seas
became rich
from her treasures.
But in a single hour
the city was destroyed.
20 (B) The heavens should be happy
with God's people
and apostles and prophets.
God has punished her
for them.”
21 (C) A powerful angel then picked up a huge stone and threw it into the sea. The angel said,
“This is how the great city
of Babylon
will be thrown down,
never to rise again.

19 and cast dust upon their heads, and cried, weeping and grieving, saying, Woe, woe, the great city, in which all that had ships in the sea were enriched through her costliness! for in one hour she has been made desolate.
20 Rejoice over her, heaven, and [ye] saints and apostles and prophets; for God has judged your judgment upon her.
21 And a strong angel took up a stone, as a great millstone, and cast [it] into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall Babylon the great city be cast down, and shall be found no more at all;

19 They will throw dust on their heads,(A) and with weeping and mourning(B) cry out:
“‘Woe! Woe to you, great city,(C)
where all who had ships on the sea
became rich through her wealth!
In one hour she has been brought to ruin!’(D)
20 “Rejoice over her, you heavens!(E)
Rejoice, you people of God!
Rejoice, apostles and prophets!
For God has judged her
with the judgment she imposed on you.”(F)
The Finality of Babylon’s Doom
21 Then a mighty angel(G) picked up a boulder the size of a large millstone and threw it into the sea,(H) and said:
“With such violence
the great city(I) of Babylon will be thrown down,
never to be found again.
