6 ¶ Y miré cuando el Cordero hubo abierto el primer sello, y oí al primero de los cuatro animales diciendo como con una voz de trueno: Ven y ve.

²Y miré, y he aquí un caballo blanco; y el que estaba sentado encima de él, tenía un arco; y le fue dada una corona, y salió victorioso, para que también venciera.

³¶ Y cuando él hubo abierto el segundo sello, oí al segundo animal, que decía: Ven y ve.

⁴Y salió otro caballo bermejo, y al que estaba sentado sobre él, le fue dado poder de quitar la paz de la tierra; y que se maten unos a otros; y le fue dada una gran espada.

⁵Y cuando él hubo abierto el tercer sello, oí al tercer animal, que decía: Ven y ve. Y miré, y he aquí un caballo negro; y el que estaba sentado encima de él, tenía un yugo en su mano.

⁶Y oí una voz en medio de los cuatro animales, que decía: Un cheniz de trigo por un denario, y tres chenizes de cebada por un denario; y no hagas daño al vino, ni al aceite.

⁷Y cuando él hubo abierto el cuarto sello, oí la voz del cuarto animal, que decía: Ven y ve.

⁸Y miré, y he aquí un caballo verde; y el que estaba sentado sobre él tenía por nombre Muerte; y el Hades le seguía; y le fue dada potestad sobre la cuarta parte de la tierra, para matar con espada, con hambre, con mortandad, y con las bestias de la tierra.

⁹¶ Y cuando él hubo abierto el quinto sello, vi debajo del altar las almas de los que habían sido muertos por causa de la palabra de Dios y por el testimonio que ellos tenían.

¹⁰Y clamaban a alta voz diciendo: ¿Hasta cuándo, Señor, Santo y Verdadero, no juzgas y vengas nuestra sangre de los que moran en la tierra?

¹¹Y les fueron dadas sendas ropas blancas, y les fue dicho que aun reposaran todavía un poco de tiempo, hasta que sus compañeros consiervos, sus hermanos, que también habían de ser muertos como ellos fueran cumplidos.

¹²Y miré cuando él hubo abierto el sexto sello, y he aquí fue hecho un gran terremoto; y el sol se puso negro como un saco de cilicio, y la luna fue hecha toda como sangre.

¹³Y las estrellas del cielo cayeron sobre la tierra; como la higuera echa sus higos cuando es movida de gran viento.

¹⁴Y el cielo se apartó como un libro que es envuelto; y todo monte e islas fueron movidas de sus lugares.

¹⁵Y los reyes de la tierra, y los príncipes, y los ricos, y los capitanes, y los fuertes, y todo esclavo y todo libre, se escondieron en las cuevas y entre las piedras de los montes;

¹⁶y decían a los montes y a las piedras: Caed sobre nosotros, y escondednos de la cara de aquel que está sentado sobre el trono, y de la ira del Cordero;

¹⁷porque el gran día de su ira es venido, ¿y quién podrá estar delante de él?

6 Vi cuando el Cordero rompió el primero de los siete sellos y oí a uno de los cuatro seres vivientes que decía con voz de trueno: «¡Ven!». ²Miré y apareció un caballo blanco. El jinete llevaba un arco; se le dio una corona y salió como vencedor, para seguir venciendo.

³Cuando el Cordero rompió el segundo sello, oí al segundo ser viviente que decía: «¡Ven!». ⁴En eso salió otro caballo de color rojo como el fuego. Al jinete se le entregó una gran espada; se le permitió quitar la paz de la tierra y hacer que sus habitantes se mataran unos a otros.

⁵Cuando el Cordero rompió el tercer sello, oí al tercero de los seres vivientes que decía: «¡Ven!». Miré y apareció un caballo negro. El jinete tenía una balanza en la mano. ⁶Y oí como una voz en medio de los cuatro seres vivientes que decía: «Un kilogramo de trigo o tres kilogramos de cebada por el salario de un día;^[a] pero no dañes el aceite ni el vino».

⁷Cuando el Cordero rompió el cuarto sello, oí la voz del cuarto ser viviente que gritaba: «¡Ven!». ⁸Miré y apareció un caballo amarillento. El jinete se llamaba Muerte y el Hades^[b] lo seguía de cerca. Y se les otorgó poder sobre la cuarta parte de la tierra, para matar por medio de la espada, el hambre, las epidemias y las fieras de la tierra.

⁹Cuando el Cordero rompió el quinto sello, vi debajo del altar las almas de los que habían sufrido el martirio por causa de la palabra de Dios y por mantenerse fieles en su testimonio. ¹⁰Gritaban a gran voz: «¿Hasta cuándo, soberano Señor, santo y veraz, seguirás sin juzgar a los habitantes de la tierra y sin vengar nuestra muerte?». ¹¹Entonces cada uno de ellos recibió ropas blancas y se les dijo que esperaran un poco más, hasta que se completara el número de sus colaboradores y hermanos que iban a sufrir el martirio como ellos.

¹²Vi que el Cordero rompió el sexto sello, y entonces se produjo un gran terremoto. El sol se oscureció como si se hubiera vestido de luto,^[c] la luna entera se tornó roja como la sangre ¹³y las estrellas del firmamento cayeron sobre la tierra, como caen los higos verdes de la higuera sacudida por el vendaval. ¹⁴El firmamento desapareció como cuando se enrolla un pergamino y todas las montañas y las islas fueron removidas de su lugar.

¹⁵Los reyes de la tierra, los magnates, los jefes militares, los ricos, los poderosos y todos los demás, esclavos y libres, se escondieron en las cuevas y entre las peñas de las montañas. ¹⁶Todos gritaban a las montañas y a las peñas: «¡Caigan sobre nosotros y escóndannos de la mirada del que está sentado en el trono y de la ira del Cordero! ¹⁷¡Porque ha llegado el gran día de la ira! ¿Quién podrá mantenerse en pie?».

The Seals

6 I watched as the Lamb^(A) opened the first of the seven seals.^(B) Then I heard one of the four living creatures^(C) say in a voice like thunder,^(D) “Come!” ²I looked, and there before me was a white horse!^(E) Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown,^(F) and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest.^(G)

³When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature^(H) say, “Come!” ⁴Then another horse came out, a fiery red one.^(I) Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth^(J) and to make people kill each other. To him was given a large sword.

⁵When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature^(K) say, “Come!” I looked, and there before me was a black horse!^(L) Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. ⁶Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures,^(M) saying, “Two pounds^[a] of wheat for a day’s wages,^[b] and six pounds^[c] of barley for a day’s wages,^[d]^(N) and do not damage^(O) the oil and the wine!”

⁷When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature^(P) say, “Come!” ⁸I looked, and there before me was a pale horse!^(Q) Its rider was named Death, and Hades^(R) was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth.^(S)

⁹When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under^(T) the altar^(U) the souls of those who had been slain^(V) because of the word of God^(W) and the testimony they had maintained. ¹⁰They called out in a loud voice, “How long,^(X) Sovereign Lord,^(Y) holy and true,^(Z) until you judge the inhabitants of the earth^(AA) and avenge our blood?”^(AB) ¹¹Then each of them was given a white robe,^(AC) and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters,^[e] were killed just as they had been.^(AD)

¹²I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake.^(AE) The sun turned black^(AF) like sackcloth^(AG) made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, ¹³and the stars in the sky fell to earth,^(AH) as figs drop from a fig tree^(AI) when shaken by a strong wind. ¹⁴The heavens receded like a scroll being rolled up,^(AJ) and every mountain and island was removed from its place.^(AK)

¹⁵Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and everyone else, both slave and free,^(AL) hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains.^(AM) ¹⁶They called to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us^(AN) and hide us^[f] from the face of him who sits on the throne^(AO) and from the wrath of the Lamb! ¹⁷For the great day^(AP) of their^[g] wrath has come, and who can withstand it?”^(AQ)

First Seal: The Conqueror

6 Now ^(A)I saw when the Lamb opened one of the ^[a]seals; and I heard ^(B)one of the four living creatures saying with a voice like thunder, “Come and see.” ²And I looked, and behold, ^(C)a white horse. ^(D)He who sat on it had a bow; ^(E)and a crown was given to him, and he went out ^(F)conquering and to conquer.

Second Seal: Conflict on Earth

³When He opened the second seal, ^(G)I heard the second living creature saying, “Come ^[b]and see.” ⁴^(H)Another horse, fiery red, went out. And it was granted to the one who sat on it to ^(I)take peace from the earth, and that people should kill one another; and there was given to him a great sword.

Third Seal: Scarcity on Earth

⁵When He opened the third seal, ^(J)I heard the third living creature say, “Come and see.” So I looked, and behold, ^(K)a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of ^(L)scales^[c] in his hand. ⁶And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A ^[d]quart of wheat for a ^[e]denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and ^(M)do not harm the oil and the wine.”

Fourth Seal: Widespread Death on Earth

⁷When He opened the fourth seal, ^(N)I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, “Come and see.” ⁸^(O)So I looked, and behold, a pale horse. And the name of him who sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him. And ^[f]power was given to them over a fourth of the earth, ^(P)to kill with sword, with hunger, with death, ^(Q)and by the beasts of the earth.

Fifth Seal: The Cry of the Martyrs

⁹When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under ^(R)the altar ^(S)the souls of those who had been slain ^(T)for the word of God and for ^(U)the testimony which they held. ¹⁰And they cried with a loud voice, saying, ^(V)“How long, O Lord, ^(W)holy and true, ^(X)until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” ¹¹Then a ^(Y)white robe was given to each of them; and it was said to them ^(Z)that they should rest a little while longer, until both the number of their fellow servants and their brethren, who would be killed as they were, was completed.

Sixth Seal: Cosmic Disturbances

¹²I looked when He opened the sixth seal, ^(AA)and ^[g]behold, there was a great earthquake; and ^(AB)the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the ^[h]moon became like blood. ¹³^(AC)And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind. ¹⁴^(AD)Then the sky ^[i]receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and ^(AE)every mountain and island was moved out of its place. ¹⁵And the ^(AF)kings of the earth, the great men, ^[j]the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, ^(AG)hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, ¹⁶^(AH)and said to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who ^(AI)sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! ¹⁷For the great day of His wrath has come, ^(AJ)and who is able to stand?”
