4 Después de esto miré(A), y vi una puerta abierta en el cielo(B). Y la primera voz que yo había oído, como sonido de trompeta(C) que hablaba conmigo, decía: «Sube(D) acá y te mostraré las cosas que deben suceder después de estas(E)». 2 Al instante estaba yo en el Espíritu(F), y vi un trono colocado en el cielo(G), y a Uno sentado en el trono(H). 3 El que estaba sentado era de aspecto semejante a una piedra de jaspe(I) y sardio[a](J), y alrededor del trono había un arco iris[b](K), de aspecto semejante a la esmeralda(L). 4 Y alrededor del trono(M) había veinticuatro tronos(N). Y sentados(O) en los tronos, veinticuatro ancianos(P) vestidos de ropas blancas(Q), con coronas de oro en la cabeza(R). 5 Del trono salían relámpagos(S), voces[c], y truenos. Delante del trono había siete lámparas(T) de fuego ardiendo, que son los siete Espíritus de Dios(U).
6 Delante del trono había como un mar transparente semejante al cristal(V); y en medio del trono y alrededor del trono(W), cuatro seres vivientes(X) llenos de ojos por delante y por detrás(Y). 7 El primer ser viviente era semejante a un león; el segundo ser era semejante a un becerro; el tercer ser tenía el rostro como el de un hombre, y el cuarto ser era semejante a un águila volando(Z). 8 Los cuatro seres vivientes(AA), cada uno de ellos con[d] seis alas(AB), estaban llenos de ojos alrededor y por dentro(AC), y día y noche(AD) no cesaban de decir[e]:
«Santo, Santo, Santo es el Señor(AE) Dios, el Todopoderoso(AF), el que era, el que es y el que ha de venir(AG)».
9 Y cada vez que[f] los seres vivientes dan gloria, honor, y acción de gracias a Aquel que está sentado en el trono(AH), al que vive por los siglos de los siglos(AI), 10 los veinticuatro ancianos(AJ) se postran[g] delante de Aquel(AK) que está sentado en el trono(AL), y adoran[h] a Aquel que vive por los siglos de los siglos(AM), y echan[i] sus coronas delante del trono(AN), diciendo:
11 «Digno eres, Señor y Dios nuestro, de recibir la gloria y el honor y el poder(AO), porque Tú creaste todas las cosas(AP), y por Tu voluntad existen[j] y fueron creadas».

El trono en el cielo
4 Después de esto miré y allí en el cielo había una puerta abierta. Y la voz que me había hablado antes con sonido como de trompeta me dijo: «Sube acá: voy a mostrarte lo que tiene que suceder después de esto». 2 Al instante vino sobre mí el Espíritu y vi un trono en el cielo y a alguien sentado en el trono. 3 El que estaba sentado tenía un aspecto semejante a una piedra de jaspe y de cornalina. Alrededor del trono había un arcoíris que se asemejaba a una esmeralda. 4 Rodeaban al trono otros veinticuatro tronos en los que estaban sentados veinticuatro ancianos vestidos de blanco y con una corona de oro en la cabeza. 5 Del trono salían relámpagos, estruendos y truenos. Delante del trono ardían siete antorchas de fuego, que son los siete espíritus[a] de Dios, 6 y había algo parecido a un mar de vidrio, como de cristal transparente.
En el centro, alrededor del trono, había cuatro seres vivientes cubiertos de ojos por delante y por detrás. 7 El primero de los seres vivientes era semejante a un león; el segundo, a un becerro; el tercero tenía rostro como de hombre; el cuarto era semejante a un águila en vuelo. 8 Cada uno de ellos tenía seis alas y estaba cubierto de ojos, por encima y por debajo de las alas. De día y de noche repetían sin cesar:
«Santo, santo, santo
es el Señor Dios Todopoderoso,
el que era y que es y que ha de venir».
9 Cada vez que estos seres vivientes daban gloria, honra y acción de gracias al que estaba sentado en el trono, al que vive por los siglos de los siglos, 10 los veinticuatro ancianos se postraban ante él y adoraban al que vive por los siglos de los siglos. Y deponían sus coronas delante del trono exclamando:
11 «Digno eres, Señor y Dios nuestro,
de recibir la gloria, la honra y el poder,
porque tú creaste todas las cosas;
por tu voluntad existen
y fueron creadas».

4 이런 일들이 있고 난 뒤에 내가 보니, 하늘에 열려 있는 문이 하나 있었습니다. 그리고 처음에 내가 들었던 목소리, 곧 나팔 소리처럼 들리던 그 목소리가 말씀하셨습니다. “이리로 올라오너라. 이 뒤에 일어나야 할 일들을 네게 보여 주겠다.” 2 나는 곧 성령께 사로잡혔습니다. 하늘에 보좌가 하나 있었는데, 그 보좌에 어떤 분이 앉아 계셨습니다. 3 보좌에 앉으신 분의 모습은 벽옥이나 홍옥 같았습니다. 보좌 둘레로는 에메랄드 같은 무지개가 떠 있었습니다. 4 보좌 둘레에는 스물네 개의 보좌가 또 있었습니다. 그 스물네 개의 보좌에는 스물네 명의 장로[a]들이 앉아 있었습니다. 그들은 흰 옷을 입고, 머리에는 금관을 쓰고 있었습니다. 5 보좌에서는 번갯불이 번쩍이고 우르릉거리는 소리가 들리고 천둥소리가 났습니다. 보좌 앞에는 일곱 개의 횃불이 타오르고 있었습니다. 이들은 하나님의 일곱 영들이십니다. 6 보좌 앞에는 또한 유리 바다와 같은 것이 있었는데, 그것은 수정처럼 맑았습니다.
그리고 보좌 한가운데와 둘레에는 앞뒤로 눈이 가득 달린 네 생물이 있었습니다. 7 첫째 생물은 사자처럼 보였습니다. 둘째 생물은 황소처럼 보였습니다. 셋째 생물은 사람의 얼굴을 가지고 있었습니다. 넷째 생물은 날아가는 독수리처럼 보였습니다. 8 이 네 생물은 각기 여섯 개의 날개를 달고 있었으며 온통 눈으로 덮여 있었는데, 심지어 날개 아래에까지 눈이 있었습니다. 이들은 밤낮으로 잠시도 쉬지 않고 이렇게 말하였습니다.
“거룩 거룩 거룩하시도다
주 전능하신 하나님!
전에도 계셨고 지금도 계시며 앞으로 오실 분이시다!”
9 이 생물들이, 보좌에 앉으시고 영원히 사시는 그분께 영광과 영예와 감사를 드릴 때마다, 10 스물네 장로들이 보좌에 앉아 계신 분 앞에 엎드려 절하고, 영원무궁하도록 살아 계신 그분께 경배 드립니다. 그들은 자기들의 금관을 벗어서 보좌 앞에 놓으며 말합니다.
11 “주 우리 하나님
당신은 영광과 영예와 권능을 받아야 할 분이십니다.
당신께서 만물을 창조하셨고
만물이 당신의 뜻에 따라
생겨났고 또 존재하기 때문입니다.”

- 4:4 스물네 명의 장로 24라는 숫자가, 이스라엘의 12가문과 12사도를 합한 숫자라면 하나님의 모든 백성을 뜻할 수도 있다. 여기에서 장로들은 하늘의 의회를 구성하고, 하늘에서의 예배를 인도하는 천사들인 것 같다.

The Throne in Heaven
4 After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open(A) in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet(B) said, “Come up here,(C) and I will show you what must take place after this.”(D) 2 At once I was in the Spirit,(E) and there before me was a throne in heaven(F) with someone sitting on it. 3 And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper(G) and ruby.(H) A rainbow(I) that shone like an emerald(J) encircled the throne. 4 Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them were twenty-four elders.(K) They were dressed in white(L) and had crowns of gold on their heads. 5 From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder.(M) In front of the throne, seven lamps(N) were blazing. These are the seven spirits[a](O) of God. 6 Also in front of the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass,(P) clear as crystal.
In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures,(Q) and they were covered with eyes, in front and in back.(R) 7 The first living creature was like a lion, the second was like an ox, the third had a face like a man, the fourth was like a flying eagle.(S) 8 Each of the four living creatures(T) had six wings(U) and was covered with eyes all around,(V) even under its wings. Day and night(W) they never stop saying:
9 Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne(Z) and who lives for ever and ever,(AA) 10 the twenty-four elders(AB) fall down before him(AC) who sits on the throne(AD) and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say:
