Los dos testigos
11 Entonces se me dio una caña, parecida a una vara de medir, y se me dijo: «Levántate y mide el templo de Dios(A) y el altar, y cuenta a los que adoran en él. 2 Pero no midas el patio que está fuera del templo; déjalo sin medir, porque ha sido entregado a los no creyentes, y ellos van a pisotear la ciudad santa(B) durante cuarenta y dos meses. 3 Yo enviaré a dos testigos míos, vestidos de cilicio, a que profeticen durante mil doscientos sesenta días.»
4 Estos testigos son los dos olivos y los dos candeleros que permanecen delante del Señor de la tierra.(C) 5 Si alguien quiere dañarlos, de su boca sale un fuego que consume a sus enemigos; cualquiera que quiera hacerles daño morirá de esa manera. 6 Ellos tienen poder para cerrar el cielo e impedir que llueva durante los días de su profecía;(D) tienen también poder para convertir el agua en sangre,(E) y para azotar la tierra con toda clase de plagas, todas las veces que quieran. 7 Cuando terminen de dar su testimonio, la bestia que sube del abismo(F) luchará contra ellos y los vencerá,(G) y les dará muerte. 8 Sus cadáveres quedarán tendidos en las calles de la gran ciudad, la que en sentido espiritual se llama Sodoma,(H) y también Egipto, donde el Señor de ellos fue crucificado. 9 Y durante tres días y medio gente de distintos pueblos, tribus, lenguas y naciones verá sus cadáveres, y no permitirá que sean sepultados. 10 Los habitantes de la tierra se alegrarán de la muerte de estos dos profetas; la celebrarán y hasta se harán regalos unos a otros, porque estos dos los habían estado atormentando.
11 Después de tres días y medio, entró en ellos el espíritu de vida enviado por Dios, y se pusieron de pie,(I) y todos los que los vieron se llenaron de temor. 12 Entonces los dos testigos oyeron una fuerte voz del cielo, que les decía: «Suban acá.» Y ellos subieron al cielo en una nube,(J) y sus enemigos los vieron. 13 En ese momento hubo un gran terremoto,(K) y a causa del terremoto se derrumbó la décima parte de la ciudad y murieron siete mil personas. Los demás se llenaron de terror y dieron gloria al Dios del cielo. 14 El segundo ay pasó, pero el tercer ay viene pronto.
La séptima trompeta
15 Cuando el séptimo ángel tocó su trompeta, se oyeron fuertes voces en el cielo, que decían: «Los reinos del mundo han llegado a ser de nuestro Señor y de su Cristo; y él reinará por los siglos de los siglos.»(L) 16 Entonces los veinticuatro ancianos que estaban sentados en sus tronos delante de Dios, inclinaron su rostro y adoraron a Dios. 17 Decían:
«Te damos gracias, Señor Dios Todopoderoso,
el que eres, y el que eras,
porque has tomado tu gran poder
y has comenzado a reinar.
18 Las naciones se han enfurecido,
pero ha llegado tu ira,
el tiempo de juzgar a los muertos
y de recompensar a tus siervos los profetas,
a los santos y a los que temen tu nombre,
lo mismo grandes que pequeños,(M)
y de destruir a los que destruyen la tierra.»
19 En ese momento el templo de Dios se abrió en el cielo, y en él se veía el arca de su pacto. Hubo entonces relámpagos, voces, truenos, un terremoto(N) y una granizada impresionante.(O)

De twee mannen die over God spreken
11 Toen kreeg ik een rieten meetstok. De engel zei tegen mij: "Sta op en meet de tempel van God en het altaar. Tel ook de mensen die in de tempel aanbidden. 2 Maar meet niet het plein dat vóór de tempel is, want dat is aan de ongelovigen gegeven. Ze zullen 42 maanden lang (3½ jaar) de heilige stad vertrappen. 3 En Ik zal de twee mannen die over Mij spreken de opdracht geven om 1260 dagen lang (42 maanden, dat is 3½ jaar) in rouwkleren te profeteren. 4 Zij zijn de twee olijfbomen en de twee kandelaren[a] die vóór de God van de aarde staan. 5 Als iemand hun kwaad wil doen, zal er vuur uit hun mond komen. Dat vuur zal hun vijanden verbranden. Iedereen die probeert om hun kwaad te doen, zal zo gedood worden. 6 Deze twee mannen hebben de macht om ervoor te zorgen dat het niet regent in de tijd dat ze profeteren. Ook kunnen ze het water in bloed veranderen en allerlei rampen over de aarde laten komen, zo vaak ze willen.[b]
7 En als ze klaar zijn met hun taak, zal het beest dat uit de bodemloze put komt tegen hen strijden. Het beest zal hen overwinnen en doden. 8 Hun lijken zullen 3½ dag op het plein van de grote stad blijven liggen. Die stad wordt ook wel Sodom of Egypte genoemd, waar ook hun Heer werd gekruisigd.[c] 9 Uit alle volken en stammen en talen en landen zullen er mensen naar hun lijken komen kijken. Ze zullen niet toestaan dat de lijken worden begraven. Dat zal 3½ dag duren. 10 En de mensen zullen blij zijn dat de twee mannen dood zijn. Ze zullen het vieren door elkaar geschenken te sturen. Want deze twee profeten hadden de mensen op de aarde veel pijn gedaan."
11 Maar ik zag dat na die 3½ dag de levensgeest van God weer in de lijken kwam. Daardoor stonden ze weer op. Iedereen die het zag, werd heel erg bang. 12 Toen hoorden ze een luide stem uit de hemel zeggen: "Kom naar boven!" En hun vijanden zagen hoe de twee mannen op een wolk naar de hemel opstegen.
13 Op dat moment kwam er een zware aardbeving en een tiende deel van de stad stortte in. Er werden 7000 mensen door gedood. De mensen die de aardbeving overleefden, waren heel erg bang en hadden ontzag voor de God van de hemel.
14 De tweede ramp is nu geweest. De derde ramp zal heel gauw komen.
De zevende trompet wordt geblazen
15 De zevende engel blies op zijn trompet. En stemmen in de hemel riepen luid: "Vanaf nu is het koningschap van de wereld van de Heer en zijn Gezalfde! Hij zal voor eeuwig Koning zijn!" 16 En de 24 gemeenteleiders die vóór God op hun troon zaten, lieten zich in aanbidding voor God op de grond vallen. 17 Ze zeiden: "We danken U, Almachtige Heer God, die is en die was en die komt, dat U de macht heeft genomen en Koning bent geworden. 18 De volken wilden niets van U weten. Maar nu is de tijd gekomen dat U hen zal straffen. Nu zult U gaan rechtspreken over de doden. Nu is de tijd gekomen dat U uw dienaren zal belonen: uw profeten, de gelovigen en alle mensen van hoog tot laag die ontzag voor U hebben. En nu is de tijd gekomen dat de mensen die de aarde vernietigen, zelf vernietigd zullen worden." 19 Gods tempel in de hemel ging open, zodat de kist van het verbond te zien was. Het begon te bliksemen, te rommelen en te donderen. En er was een aardbeving en een zware hagelbui.

Egypte staat symbool voor slavernij, omdat Israël in Egypte in slavernij geleefd heeft. Met deze twee namen samen wordt Jeruzalem bedoeld, de stad waar Jezus gekruisigd is.

11 Me dieron una vara de medir, parecida a una caña, y me dijeron: «Levántate y toma las medidas del templo de Dios y del altar, y cuenta los que adoran allí. 2 Pero no midas el atrio exterior del templo, porque ha sido entregado a los paganos, los cuales van a pisotear la ciudad santa durante cuarenta y dos meses. 3 Y yo enviaré dos testigos, vestidos con ropas ásperas, a comunicar mensajes proféticos durante mil doscientos sesenta días.»
4 Estos dos testigos son los dos olivos y los dos candelabros que están delante del Señor de la tierra. 5 Si alguien intenta hacerles daño, ellos echan fuego por la boca, que quema por completo a sus enemigos; así morirá cualquiera que quiera hacerles daño. 6 Estos testigos tienen poder para cerrar el cielo, para que no llueva durante el tiempo en que estén comunicando su mensaje profético, y también tienen poder para cambiar el agua en sangre y para hacer sufrir a la tierra con toda clase de calamidades, tantas veces como ellos quieran.
7 Pero cuando hayan terminado de dar su testimonio, el monstruo que sube del abismo los atacará, los vencerá y los matará. 8 Sus cadáveres quedarán tendidos en las calles de la gran ciudad donde fue crucificado su Señor, la cual en lenguaje figurado se llama Sodoma, y también Egipto. 9 Y por tres días y medio, gente de distintos pueblos, razas, lenguas y naciones verá sus cadáveres y no dejará que los entierren. 10 Los que viven en la tierra se alegrarán de su muerte. Estarán tan contentos que se harán regalos unos a otros, porque aquellos dos profetas eran un tormento para ellos.
11 Pero al cabo de los tres días y medio, Dios los revivió y se levantaron otra vez, y todos los que los vieron se llenaron de miedo. 12 Entonces los dos testigos oyeron una fuerte voz del cielo, que les decía: «¡Suban acá!» Y subieron al cielo en una nube, y sus enemigos los vieron. 13 En aquel mismo momento hubo un gran terremoto, y a causa del terremoto se derrumbó la décima parte de la ciudad, y siete mil personas murieron. Los que aún quedaron con vida, llenos de miedo alabaron a Dios, que está en el cielo.
14 Pasó el segundo desastre, pero pronto viene el tercero.
La séptima trompeta
15 El séptimo ángel tocó su trompeta, y se oyeron fuertes voces en el cielo, que decían:
«El reino del mundo
es ya de nuestro Señor y de su Mesías,
y reinarán por todos los siglos.»
16 Los veinticuatro ancianos que estaban sentados en sus tronos delante de Dios, se inclinaron hasta el suelo y adoraron a Dios, 17 diciendo:
«Te damos gracias, Señor, Dios todopoderoso,
tú que eres y que eras,
porque has tomado tu gran poder
y has comenzado a reinar.
18 Las naciones se han enfurecido;
pero ha llegado el día de tu ira,
el momento en que has de juzgar a los muertos;
y darás la recompensa a tus siervos los profetas,
a tu pueblo santo
y a los que honran tu nombre,
sean grandes o pequeños;
y destruirás a los que destruyen la tierra.»
Visión preparatoria
19 Entonces se abrió el templo de Dios que está en el cielo, y en el templo se veía el arca de su alianza. Y hubo relámpagos, voces, truenos, un terremoto y una gran granizada.

The Two Witnesses
11 I was given a reed like a measuring rod(A) and was told, “Go and measure the temple of God and the altar, with its worshipers. 2 But exclude the outer court;(B) do not measure it, because it has been given to the Gentiles.(C) They will trample on the holy city(D) for 42 months.(E) 3 And I will appoint my two witnesses,(F) and they will prophesy for 1,260 days,(G) clothed in sackcloth.”(H) 4 They are “the two olive trees”(I) and the two lampstands, and “they stand before the Lord of the earth.”[a](J) 5 If anyone tries to harm them, fire comes from their mouths and devours their enemies.(K) This is how anyone who wants to harm them must die.(L) 6 They have power to shut up the heavens(M) so that it will not rain during the time they are prophesying;(N) and they have power to turn the waters into blood(O) and to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they want.
7 Now when they have finished their testimony, the beast(P) that comes up from the Abyss(Q) will attack them,(R) and overpower and kill them. 8 Their bodies will lie in the public square of the great city(S)—which is figuratively called Sodom(T) and Egypt—where also their Lord was crucified.(U) 9 For three and a half days some from every people, tribe, language and nation(V) will gaze on their bodies and refuse them burial.(W) 10 The inhabitants of the earth(X) will gloat over them and will celebrate by sending each other gifts,(Y) because these two prophets had tormented those who live on the earth.
11 But after the three and a half days(Z) the breath[b] of life from God entered them,(AA) and they stood on their feet, and terror struck those who saw them. 12 Then they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “Come up here.”(AB) And they went up to heaven in a cloud,(AC) while their enemies looked on.
13 At that very hour there was a severe earthquake(AD) and a tenth of the city collapsed. Seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the survivors were terrified and gave glory(AE) to the God of heaven.(AF)
14 The second woe has passed; the third woe is coming soon.(AG)
The Seventh Trumpet
15 The seventh angel sounded his trumpet,(AH) and there were loud voices(AI) in heaven, which said:
“The kingdom of the world has become
the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah,(AJ)
and he will reign for ever and ever.”(AK)
16 And the twenty-four elders,(AL) who were seated on their thrones before God, fell on their faces(AM) and worshiped God, 17 saying:
“We give thanks(AN) to you, Lord God Almighty,(AO)
the One who is and who was,(AP)
because you have taken your great power
and have begun to reign.(AQ)
18 The nations were angry,(AR)
and your wrath has come.
The time has come for judging the dead,(AS)
and for rewarding your servants the prophets(AT)
and your people who revere your name,
both great and small(AU)—
and for destroying those who destroy the earth.”
19 Then God’s temple(AV) in heaven was opened, and within his temple was seen the ark of his covenant.(AW) And there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder,(AX) an earthquake and a severe hailstorm.(AY)
