17 E veio um dos sete anjos que tinham as sete taças e falou comigo, dizendo-me: Vem, mostrar-te-ei a condenação da grande prostituta que está assentada sobre muitas águas, 2 com a qual se prostituíram os reis da terra; e os que habitam na terra se embebedaram com o vinho da sua prostituição. 3 E levou-me em espírito a um deserto, e vi uma mulher assentada sobre uma besta de cor escarlate, que estava cheia de nomes de blasfêmia e tinha sete cabeças e dez chifres. 4 E a mulher estava vestida de púrpura e de escarlata, adornada com ouro, e pedras preciosas, e pérolas, e tinha na mão um cálice de ouro cheio das abominações e da imundícia da sua prostituição. 5 E, na sua testa, estava escrito o nome: Mistério, a Grande Babilônia, a Mãe das Prostituições e Abominações da Terra. 6 E vi que a mulher estava embriagada do sangue dos santos e do sangue das testemunhas de Jesus. E, vendo-a eu, maravilhei-me com grande admiração. 7 E o anjo me disse: Por que te admiras? Eu te direi o mistério da mulher e da besta que a traz, a qual tem sete cabeças e dez chifres. 8 A besta que viste foi e já não é, e há de subir do abismo, e irá à perdição. E os que habitam na terra (cujos nomes não estão escritos no livro da vida, desde a fundação do mundo) se admirarão vendo a besta que era e já não é, mas que virá. 9 Aqui há sentido, que tem sabedoria. As sete cabeças são sete montes, sobre os quais a mulher está assentada. 10 E são também sete reis: cinco já caíram, e um existe; outro ainda não é vindo; e, quando vier, convém que dure um pouco de tempo. 11 E a besta, que era e já não é, é ela também o oitavo, e é dos sete, e vai à perdição. 12 E os dez chifres que viste são dez reis, que ainda não receberam o reino, mas receberão o poder como reis por uma hora, juntamente com a besta. 13 Estes têm um mesmo intento e entregarão o seu poder e autoridade à besta. 14 Estes combaterão contra o Cordeiro, e o Cordeiro os vencerá, porque é o Senhor dos senhores e o Rei dos reis; vencerão os que estão com ele, chamados, eleitos e fiéis. 15 E disse-me: As águas que viste, onde se assenta a prostituta, são povos, e multidões, e nações, e línguas. 16 E os dez chifres que viste na besta são os que aborrecerão a prostituta, e a porão desolada e nua, e comerão a sua carne, e a queimarão no fogo. 17 Porque Deus tem posto em seu coração que cumpram o seu intento, e tenham uma mesma ideia, e que deem à besta o seu reino, até que se cumpram as palavras de Deus. 18 E a mulher que viste é a grande cidade que reina sobre os reis da terra.

17 Um dos sete anjos que derramaram as sete taças se aproximou e disse: “Venha comigo, e eu lhe mostrarei o julgamento da grande prostituta que governa sobre muitas águas. 2 Os reis da terra cometeram adultério com ela, e os habitantes da terra se embriagaram com o vinho de sua imoralidade”.
3 Então o anjo me levou no Espírito[a] para o deserto, onde vi uma mulher montada numa besta vermelha, coberta de blasfêmias e com sete cabeças e dez chifres. 4 A mulher estava vestida de púrpura e vermelho e enfeitada com joias de ouro, pedras preciosas e pérolas. Tinha na mão um cálice de ouro cheio de abominações e das impurezas de sua imoralidade. 5 Em sua testa estava escrito um nome misterioso: “Babilônia, a Grande, a Mãe das Prostitutas e das Abominações da Terra”. 6 Vi que ela estava embriagada com o sangue do povo santo, o sangue das testemunhas de Jesus. Tomado de espanto, olhei fixamente para ela.
7 “Por que você está tão espantado?”, o anjo perguntou. “Eu lhe explicarei o mistério desta mulher e da besta com sete cabeças e dez chifres na qual ela está montada. 8 A besta que você viu esteve viva, mas agora não está mais. E, no entanto, em breve subirá do abismo e irá para a destruição. Os habitantes da terra, cujos nomes não foram escritos no Livro da Vida desde a criação do mundo, ficarão admirados com o reaparecimento da besta que havia morrido.
9 “Aqui é preciso pensar com sabedoria. As sete cabeças da besta representam os sete montes onde a mulher governa, e também representam sete reis. 10 Cinco deles já caíram, o sexto está governando e o sétimo ainda não veio, mas seu reinado será breve.
11 “A besta que esteve viva, mas agora não está mais, é o oitavo rei. É como os outros sete, e também caminha para a destruição. 12 Os dez chifres da besta são dez reis que ainda não subiram ao poder. Serão nomeados para seus reinos por um breve período, para reinarem com a besta, 13 e concordarão em entregar a ela seu poder e sua autoridade. 14 Juntos, guerrearão contra o Cordeiro, mas o Cordeiro os derrotará, pois é Senhor dos senhores e Rei dos reis. E com ele estarão seus chamados, escolhidos e fiéis.”
15 Em seguida, o anjo me disse: “As águas que você viu, onde a prostituta governa, representam multidões de todas as nações e línguas. 16 A besta e os dez chifres que você viu odiarão a prostituta. Eles a deixarão nua, comerão sua carne e destruirão o restante com fogo. 17 Porque Deus colocou no coração deles um plano que executará sua vontade. Eles concordarão em entregar a autoridade à besta, cumprindo-se assim as palavras de Deus. 18 E a mulher que você viu representa a grande cidade que governa sobre os reis da terra”.

17 Um dos sete anjos que tinham as sete taças aproximou-se e me disse: “Venha, eu lhe mostrarei o julgamento da grande prostituta que está sentada sobre muitas águas, 2 com quem os reis da terra se prostituíram; os habitantes da terra se embriagaram com o vinho da sua prostituição”.
3 Então o anjo me levou no Espírito para um deserto. Ali vi uma mulher montada numa besta vermelha, que estava coberta de nomes blasfemos e que tinha sete cabeças e dez chifres. 4 A mulher estava vestida de azul e vermelho, e adornada de ouro, pedras preciosas e pérolas. Segurava um cálice de ouro, cheio de coisas repugnantes e da impureza da sua prostituição. 5 Em sua testa havia esta inscrição:
MISTÉRIO:
BABILÔNIA, A GRANDE;
A MÃE DAS PROSTITUTAS
E DAS PRÁTICAS REPUGNANTES DA TERRA.
6 Vi que a mulher estava embriagada com o sangue dos santos, o sangue das testemunhas[a] de Jesus.
Quando a vi, fiquei muito admirado. 7 Então o anjo me disse: “Por que você está admirado? Eu lhe explicarei o mistério dessa mulher e da besta sobre a qual ela está montada, que tem sete cabeças e dez chifres. 8 A besta que você viu, era e já não é. Ela está para subir do Abismo e caminha para a perdição. Os habitantes da terra, cujos nomes não foram escritos no livro da vida desde a criação do mundo, ficarão admirados quando virem a besta, porque ela era, agora não é, e entretanto virá.
9 “Aqui se requer mente sábia. As sete cabeças são sete colinas sobre as quais está sentada a mulher. 10 São também sete reis. Cinco já caíram, um ainda existe, e o outro ainda não surgiu; mas, quando surgir, deverá permanecer durante pouco tempo. 11 A besta que era, e agora não é, é o oitavo rei. É um dos sete, e caminha para a perdição.
12 “Os dez chifres que você viu são dez reis que ainda não receberam reino, mas que por uma hora receberão autoridade como reis, junto com a besta. 13 Eles têm um único propósito, e darão seu poder e sua autoridade à besta. 14 Guerrearão contra o Cordeiro, mas o Cordeiro os vencerá, pois é o Senhor dos senhores e o Rei dos reis; e vencerão com ele os seus chamados, escolhidos e fiéis”.
15 Então o anjo me disse: “As águas que você viu, onde está sentada a prostituta, são povos, multidões, nações e línguas. 16 A besta e os dez chifres que você viu odiarão a prostituta. Eles a levarão à ruína e a deixarão nua, comerão a sua carne e a destruirão com fogo, 17 pois Deus colocou no coração deles o desejo de realizar o propósito que ele tem, levando-os a concordarem em dar à besta o poder que eles têm para reinar até que se cumpram as palavras de Deus. 18 A mulher que você viu é a grande cidade que reina sobre os reis da terra”.

17 One of the seven angels(A) who had the seven bowls(B) came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the punishment(C) of the great prostitute,(D) who sits by many waters.(E) 2 With her the kings of the earth committed adultery, and the inhabitants of the earth were intoxicated with the wine of her adulteries.”(F)
3 Then the angel carried me away in the Spirit(G) into a wilderness.(H) There I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet(I) beast that was covered with blasphemous names(J) and had seven heads and ten horns.(K) 4 The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and was glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls.(L) She held a golden cup(M) in her hand, filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries.(N) 5 The name written on her forehead was a mystery:(O)
6 I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of God’s holy people,(R) the blood of those who bore testimony to Jesus.
When I saw her, I was greatly astonished. 7 Then the angel said to me: “Why are you astonished? I will explain to you the mystery(S) of the woman and of the beast she rides, which has the seven heads and ten horns.(T) 8 The beast, which you saw, once was, now is not, and yet will come up out of the Abyss(U) and go to its destruction.(V) The inhabitants of the earth(W) whose names have not been written in the book of life(X) from the creation of the world will be astonished(Y) when they see the beast, because it once was, now is not, and yet will come.
9 “This calls for a mind with wisdom.(Z) The seven heads(AA) are seven hills on which the woman sits. 10 They are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; but when he does come, he must remain for only a little while. 11 The beast who once was, and now is not,(AB) is an eighth king. He belongs to the seven and is going to his destruction.
12 “The ten horns(AC) you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but who for one hour(AD) will receive authority as kings along with the beast. 13 They have one purpose and will give their power and authority to the beast.(AE) 14 They will wage war(AF) against the Lamb, but the Lamb will triumph over(AG) them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings(AH)—and with him will be his called, chosen(AI) and faithful followers.”
15 Then the angel said to me, “The waters(AJ) you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations and languages.(AK) 16 The beast and the ten horns(AL) you saw will hate the prostitute.(AM) They will bring her to ruin(AN) and leave her naked;(AO) they will eat her flesh(AP) and burn her with fire.(AQ) 17 For God has put it into their hearts(AR) to accomplish his purpose by agreeing to hand over to the beast their royal authority,(AS) until God’s words are fulfilled.(AT) 18 The woman you saw is the great city(AU) that rules over the kings of the earth.”

2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.
3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
5 And upon her forehead was a name written, Mystery, Babylon The Great, The Mother Of Harlots And Abominations Of The Earth.
6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.
7 And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.
8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.
10 And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.
11 And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.
12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.
13 These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.
14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.
16 And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.
17 For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.
18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.
