12 În cer s-a văzut un semn mare: o femeie învăluită în soare, având luna sub picioare, iar pe cap o coroană de douăsprezece stele, 2 era însărcinată şi striga în durerile şi suferinţa naşterii. 3 În cer s-a văzut un alt semn: iată că un balaur[a] mare, roşu, cu şapte capete şi zece coarne, având pe capete şapte diademe, 4 a târât cu coada lui a treia parte din stelele cerului şi le-a aruncat pe pământ. Balaurul a stat înaintea femeii care urma să nască, pentru ca, atunci când copilul se va naşte, să-l mănânce. 5 Ea a născut un fiu, un băiat, care are să conducă toate neamurile cu un sceptru de fier. Copilul ei a fost răpit la Dumnezeu, la tronul Său. 6 Iar femeia a fugit în deşert, unde avea un loc pregătit de Dumnezeu, pentru ca acolo să poată fi hrănită timp de o mie două sute şaizeci de zile[b].
7 În cer a avut loc un război. Mihail şi îngerii lui s-au războit cu balaurul. Balaurul şi îngerii lui s-au războit şi ei, 8 dar nu au putut învinge şi locul lor nu li s-a mai găsit în cer. 9 Marele balaur a fost aruncat, şi anume şarpele cel vechi, numit diavolul şi Satan, cel care înşală întreaga omenire, a fost aruncat pe pământ, iar împreună cu el au fost aruncaţi şi îngerii lui. 10 Apoi am auzit în cer un glas puternic spunând:
„Acum au venit mântuirea, puterea,
Împărăţia Dumnezeului nostru
şi autoritatea Cristosului[c] Său,
căci acuzatorul[d] fraţilor noştri a fost aruncat,
a fost aruncat cel care îi acuza înaintea Dumnezeului nostru zi şi noapte.
11 Ei l-au învins prin sângele Mielului
şi prin cuvântul mărturiei lor;
ei nu şi-au iubit viaţa, chiar până la moarte.
12 De aceea, bucuraţi-vă ceruri
şi voi, cei ce locuiţi în ele!
Vai de voi, pământ şi mare,
pentru că diavolul a coborât la voi
cuprins de o mare furie,
fiindcă ştie că are puţin timp!“
13 Când balaurul a văzut că a fost aruncat pe pământ, a urmărit-o pe femeia care născuse băiatul. 14 Femeii i s-au dat două aripi mari de vultur, ca să zboare în deşert, în locul pregătit pentru ea, unde să fie hrănită o vreme, vremi şi jumătatea unei vremi[e], departe de faţa şarpelui. 15 Şarpele a aruncat din gura lui apă, ca un râu, după femeie, pentru ca s-o ducă râul, 16 dar pământul a venit în ajutorul femeii; şi-a deschis gura şi a înghiţit râul pe care-l aruncase balaurul din gură. 17 Atunci balaurul s-a mâniat pe femeie şi s-a dus să poarte război cu rămăşiţa seminţei[f] ei, cei care păzesc poruncile lui Dumnezeu şi ţin mărturia lui Isus. 18 Apoi a stat[g] pe ţărmul mării.

12 În cer s-a arătat un semn mare – o femeie învăluită în soare, cu luna sub picioare şi cu o cunună de douăsprezece stele pe cap. 2 Ea era însărcinată, ţipa în durerile naşterii şi avea un mare chin(A) ca să nască. 3 În cer s-a mai arătat un alt semn: iată, s-a văzut un(B) mare balaur roşu, cu(C) şapte capete, zece coarne şi(D) şapte cununi împărăteşti pe capete. 4 Cu coada(E) trăgea după el a treia parte din(F) stelele cerului şi(G) le arunca pe pământ.
Balaurul a stat înaintea(H) femeii care stătea să nască, pentru ca(I) să-i mănânce copilul, când îl va naşte. 5 Ea a născut un fiu, un copil de parte bărbătească. El(J) are să cârmuiască toate neamurile cu un toiag de fier. Copilul a fost răpit la Dumnezeu şi la scaunul Lui de domnie. 6 Şi femeia(K) a fugit în pustie, într-un loc pregătit de Dumnezeu, ca să fie hrănită acolo o(L) mie două sute şaizeci de zile. 7 Şi în cer s-a făcut un război. Mihail(M) şi îngerii lui s-au luptat cu(N) balaurul. Vai(X) de voi, pământ şi mare! Căci Diavolul s-a pogorât la voi, cuprins de o mânie mare, fiindcă(Y) ştie că are puţină vreme.” 13 Când s-a văzut balaurul aruncat pe pământ, a început să urmărească pe(Z) femeia care născuse copilul de parte bărbătească. 14 Şi(AA) cele două aripi ale vulturului celui mare au fost date femeii ca(AB) să zboare cu ele în(AC) pustie, în locul ei unde este hrănită o(AD) vreme, vremi şi jumătatea unei vremi, departe de faţa şarpelui. 15 Atunci, şarpele a(AE) aruncat din gură apă, ca un râu, după femeie, ca s-o ia râul. 16 Dar pământul a dat ajutor femeii. The Woman, the Child, and the Dragon
12 Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars. 2 Then being with child, she cried out (A)in labor and in pain to give birth.
3 And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, (B)a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. 4 (C)His tail drew a third (D)of the stars of heaven (E)and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood (F)before the woman who was ready to give birth, (G)to devour her Child as soon as it was born. 5 She bore a male Child (H)who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her Child was (I)caught up to God and His throne. 6 Then (J)the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there (K)one thousand two hundred and sixty days.
Satan Thrown Out of Heaven
7 And war broke out in heaven: (L)Michael and his angels fought (M)with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, 8 but they [a]did not prevail, nor was a place found for [b]them in heaven any longer. 9 So (N)the great dragon was cast out, (O)that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, (P)who deceives the whole world; (Q)he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
10 Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, (R)“Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, (S)who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. 11 And (T)they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, (U)and they did not love their lives to the death. 12 Therefore (V)rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! (W)Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, (X)because he knows that he has a short time.”
The Woman Persecuted
13 Now when the dragon saw that he had been cast to the earth, he persecuted (Y)the woman who gave birth to the male Child. 14 (Z)But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle, (AA)that she might fly (AB)into the wilderness to her place, where she is nourished (AC)for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent. 15 So the serpent (AD)spewed water out of his mouth like a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away by the flood. 16 But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed up the flood which the dragon had spewed out of his mouth. 17 And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus [c]Christ.
