The Destruction of Israel
9 I saw the Lord standing beside[a] the altar, and he said:
Strike the capitals until the thresholds shake,
and shatter them on the heads of all the people;[b]
and those who are left I will kill with the sword;
not one of them shall flee away,
not one of them shall escape.
2 Though they dig into Sheol,
from there shall my hand take them;
though they climb up to heaven,
from there I will bring them down.
3 Though they hide themselves on the top of Carmel,
from there I will search out and take them;
and though they hide from my sight at the bottom of the sea,
there I will command the sea-serpent, and it shall bite them.
4 And though they go into captivity in front of their enemies,
there I will command the sword, and it shall kill them;
and I will fix my eyes on them
for harm and not for good.
5 The Lord, God of hosts,
he who touches the earth and it melts,
and all who live in it mourn,
and all of it rises like the Nile,
and sinks again, like the Nile of Egypt;
6 who builds his upper chambers in the heavens,
and founds his vault upon the earth;
who calls for the waters of the sea,
and pours them out upon the surface of the earth—
the Lord is his name.
7 Are you not like the Ethiopians[c] to me,
O people of Israel? says the Lord.
Did I not bring Israel up from the land of Egypt,
and the Philistines from Caphtor and the Arameans from Kir?
8 The eyes of the Lord God are upon the sinful kingdom,
and I will destroy it from the face of the earth
—except that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob,
says the Lord.
9 For lo, I will command,
and shake the house of Israel among all the nations
as one shakes with a sieve,
but no pebble shall fall to the ground.
10 All the sinners of my people shall die by the sword,
who say, “Evil shall not overtake or meet us.”
The Restoration of David’s Kingdom
11 On that day I will raise up
the booth of David that is fallen,
and repair its[d] breaches,
and raise up its[e] ruins,
and rebuild it as in the days of old;
12 in order that they may possess the remnant of Edom
and all the nations who are called by my name,
says the Lord who does this.
13 The time is surely coming, says the Lord,
when the one who plows shall overtake the one who reaps,
and the treader of grapes the one who sows the seed;
the mountains shall drip sweet wine,
and all the hills shall flow with it.
14 I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel,
and they shall rebuild the ruined cities and inhabit them;
they shall plant vineyards and drink their wine,
and they shall make gardens and eat their fruit.
15 I will plant them upon their land,
and they shall never again be plucked up
out of the land that I have given them,
says the Lord your God.

3 Anche se si nascondessero in vetta al Carmelo, io li scoverei lassù e li prenderei; anche se si nascondessero al mio sguardo in fondo al mare, laggiù ordinerei al serpente di morderli;
4 anche se andassero in esilio davanti ai loro nemici, là ordinerei alla spada di ucciderli. Io fisserò su di loro i miei occhi per il loro male e non per il loro bene».
5 Il Signore, Dio degli eserciti, è colui che tocca la terra ed essa si scioglie, e tutti i suoi abitanti sono in lutto; essa si solleva tutta quanta come il fiume e si abbassa come il fiume d’Egitto.

13 «Ecco, vengono i giorni», dice il Signore, «in cui l’aratore s’incontrerà con il mietitore, e chi pigia l’uva con chi getta il seme; quando i monti stilleranno mosto e tutti i colli si scioglieranno.
14 Io libererò dall’esilio il mio popolo, Israele; essi ricostruiranno le città desolate e le abiteranno; pianteranno vigne e ne berranno il vino; coltiveranno giardini e ne mangeranno i frutti.
15 Io li pianterò nella loro terra e non saranno mai più sradicati dalla terra che io ho dato loro», dice il Signore, il tuo Dio.

9 Ich sah den Herrn am Altar stehen, und er sprach: Schlage an den Säulenknauf, dass die Schwellen beben, und zerschmettere sie auf dem Haupt von ihnen allen! Ihren Rest aber will ich mit dem Schwert umbringen, dass kein Flüchtling von ihnen entflieht und kein Entkommener sich retten kann.
2 Wenn sie auch bis ins Totenreich eindrängen, so würde sie doch meine Hand von dort holen, und wenn sie zum Himmel emporstiegen, so würde ich sie von dort hinunterstoßen.
3 Wenn sie sich aber auf dem Gipfel des Karmel versteckten, so würde ich sie dort aufspüren und ergreifen; und wollten sie sich auf dem Meeresgrund vor meinen Augen verbergen, so würde ich dort der Schlange gebieten, sie zu beißen;
4 und wenn sie vor ihren Feinden her in die Gefangenschaft ziehen würden, so wollte ich doch von dort dem Schwert gebieten, sie umzubringen. So will ich mein Auge auf sie richten zum Bösen und nicht zum Guten!
5 Denn der Herrscher, der Herr der Heerscharen, ist es, der das Land anrührt, und es vergeht, und es trauern alle, die darin wohnen; und das ganze [Land] hebt sich empor wie der Nil und sinkt wieder zurück wie der Strom Ägyptens.
6 Er ist es, der seine Obergemächer[a] im Himmel gebaut und sein Gewölbe über der Erde gegründet hat, der den Meereswassern ruft und sie ausgießt über den Erdboden — Herr ist sein Name.
7 Seid ihr Kinder Israels für mich nicht wie die Kinder der Kuschiten?, spricht der Herr. Habe ich nicht Israel aus dem Land Ägypten herausgeführt und die Philister aus Kaphtor und die Aramäer aus Kir?
8 Siehe, die Augen Gottes, des Herrn, sind auf das sündige Königreich gerichtet, dass ich es vom Erdboden vertilge. Aber ich will das Haus Jakob nicht ganz und gar vertilgen, spricht der Herr.
9 Denn siehe, ich lasse das Haus Israel durch alle Heidenvölker sichten, wie Getreide mit einem Sieb gesichtet wird; und es soll nicht ein Körnlein auf die Erde fallen!
10 Durchs Schwert sollen alle Sünder meines Volkes sterben, die sagen: »Kein Unglück wird uns erreichen noch überfallen!«
Die künftige Wiederherstellung Israels
11 An jenem Tag will ich die zerfallene Hütte Davids wieder aufrichten und ihre Risse vermauern und ihre Trümmer wiederherstellen und sie wieder bauen wie in den Tagen der Vorzeit,
12 sodass sie den Überrest Edoms in Besitz nehmen werden und alle Heidenvölker, über die mein Name ausgerufen worden ist, spricht der Herr, der dies tut.
13 Siehe, es kommen Tage, spricht der Herr, da der Pflüger den Schnitter und der Traubenkelterer den Sämann ablösen wird. Dann werden die Berge von Most triefen und alle Hügel überfließen.
14 Und ich will das Geschick meines Volkes Israel wenden, und sie werden die verwüsteten Städte wieder aufbauen und bewohnen, Weinberge pflanzen und deren Wein trinken, Gärten anlegen und deren Früchte genießen.
15 Und ich werde sie einpflanzen in ihr Land; und sie sollen aus ihrem Land, das ich ihnen gegeben habe, nicht mehr herausgerissen werden!, spricht der Herr, dein Gott.

a benne lévők fejére!
Akik életben maradnak,
azokat fegyverrel ölöm meg.
Egy sem fog elszaladni,
senki sem menekülhet!
2 Ha leásnak, erőszakkal betörnek a Seolba,
onnan is előhúzom őket.
Ha felkapaszkodnak az égbe,
onnan is lerántom őket.
3 Ha a Kármel tetején rejtőznek el,
ott is megtalálom,
és megragadom őket.
Ha a tenger mélyén bújnak el,
hogy ne lássam őket,
ott is parancsolok a kígyónak,
hogy marja meg őket.

9 Je vis le Seigneur debout sur l’autel,
disant : Frappe le chapiteau |des colonnes du Temple
et que les seuils en tremblent !
Brise-les sur leur tête à tous !
Ceux qui subsisteront, |je les abattrai par l’épée.
Aucun d’eux ne pourra s’enfuir,
aucun d’eux n’en réchappera.
2 Car s’ils s’enfoncent |jusqu’au séjour des morts,
ma main les en arrachera.
S’ils montent jusqu’au ciel,
je les en ferai redescendre.
3 S’ils se cachent au sommet du Carmel,
je les y chercherai |et les attraperai,
et s’ils plongent au fond des mers, |pour se dérober à mes yeux,
je donnerai l’ordre au serpent |d’aller les mordre là.
4 S’ils partent en exil, |devant leurs ennemis,
là, j’ordonnerai à l’épée |de les exterminer.
Oui, j’aurai l’œil sur eux
afin d’œuvrer à leur malheur |et non à leur bonheur.

5 L’Eternel, |le Seigneur des armées célestes,

La terre tout entière |se soulève comme le Nil

6 L’Eternel a bâti |les marches de son trône dans le ciel ;
il a fondé sa voûte |au-dessus de la terre :

Son nom est l’Eternel.
Le juste châtiment
7 N’êtes-vous pas pour moi |comme des Ethiopiens,
vous les Israélites ?
l’Eternel le demande.
N’ai-je pas fait sortir |Israël de l’Egypte,
les Philistins de Crète
et les Syriens de Qir[a] ?
8 Le Seigneur, l’Eternel, observe
ce royaume coupable.
Je le supprimerai |de la surface de la terre.
Pourtant, je ne veux pas |entièrement détruire
le peuple de Jacob,
l’Eternel le déclare.
9 Voici ce que j’ordonne :
Je secouerai |le peuple d’Israël |chez tous les autres peuples,
comme on secoue le grain |qu’on a mis dans le crible :
sans que ne tombe à terre |aucune pierre |même petite[b].
10 Les coupables parmi mon peuple |mourront tous par l’épée,
tous ceux qui disent : « Le malheur

Le temps du renouveau
11 En ce jour-là, |moi, je relèverai |la hutte de David |qui tombe en ruine,
j’en boucherai les brèches
et j’en relèverai les ruines.
Je la rebâtirai |pour qu’elle soit comme autrefois[c],
12 afin qu’ils entrent |en possession
de ce qui restera |des Edomites, |et des autres peuples
appelés de mon nom |comme ma possession,
l’Eternel le déclare, |lui qui réalisera tout cela.
13 Voici venir des jours,
l’Eternel le déclare,
où celui qui laboure |suivra de près le moissonneur,
et où le vendangeur |suivra celui qui sème,
le vin nouveau ruissellera |de toutes les montagnes,
de toutes les collines |il coulera à flots.
14 Je ramènerai les captifs[d] |de mon peuple Israël
et ils rebâtiront |les villes dévastées,

Ils planteront des vignes

15 Je les planterai sur leur terre
