蝗灾的异象
7 主耶和华向我这样显示：看哪！替王收割之后，田产又开始生长时，主造出一群蝗虫。
2 蝗虫吃尽地上的农产时，我说：
“主耶和华啊！求你宽恕，
因雅各太弱小，
怎能站立得住呢？”
3 耶和华对这事改变心意，
耶和华说：“这事不会发生。”
火焰的异象
4 主耶和华向我这样显示：看哪！主耶和华召来刑罚的火，烧毁广大的深渊和以色列的地业。
5 因此我对主耶和华说：
“求你停止吧！
因雅各太弱小，怎能站立得住呢？”
6 耶和华对这事改变心意。
主耶和华说：“这事也不会发生。”
准绳的异象
7 他向我这样显示：看哪！主站在一道按准绳建造的墙旁边，手里拿着准绳。
8 耶和华对我说：“阿摩司，你看见甚么？”我回答：“我看见准绳。”主又说：“看哪！我把准绳放在我民以色列中间，必不再放过他们。
9 以撒的各邱坛必荒废，
以色列所有的圣所必废弃；
我必起来用刀击杀耶罗波安家。”
亚玛谢控告阿摩司
10 伯特利的祭司亚玛谢派人向以色列王耶罗波安报告：“阿摩司在以色列家中图谋背叛你，这国家不能容忍他说的话； 11 因为阿摩司这样说：
‘耶罗波安必死在刀下，
以色列必被掳，
离开本国。’”
12 亚玛谢对阿摩司说：“你这个先见，走吧！滚回犹大地去；在那里你可以找食，在那里你可以说预言。 13 但不要再在伯特利说预言，因为这里是王的圣所，是王国的圣殿。”

14 阿摩司回答亚玛谢说：“我原不是先知，也不是先知的门徒；我本是牧人，是修理桑树的， 15 但耶和华选召我，叫我不再跟随羊群；他对我说：‘你去，向我民以色列说预言。’ 16 现在你要听耶和华的话；因为你说：
‘不要说预言攻击以色列，
不要说攻击以撒家的话。’
17 所以，耶和华这样说：
‘你妻子必在城中作妓女，你的儿女必倒在刀下；
你的土地必被人量度瓜分，你自己必死在不洁之地；
以色列必被掳，离开本国。’”

7 Or voici ce que me fit voir le Seigneur, l’Eternel. Il y avait un essaim de criquets[a] au temps où le regain commençait à pousser. C’était après la coupe que l’on fait pour le roi[b]. 2 Quand les criquets eurent fini de dévorer l’herbe des champs, je dis : O Seigneur, Eternel, accorde le pardon, de grâce ! Sinon, comment Jacob pourra-t-il subsister, lui qui est si petit ?
3 L’Eternel y renonça : Cela ne sera pas, dit l’Eternel.
4 Puis voici ce que me fit voir le Seigneur, l’Eternel. Le Seigneur, l’Eternel, fit appel au feu pour exercer un jugement, et le feu fit tarir les nappes souterraines et consuma le territoire. 5 Je dis : O Seigneur, Eternel, arrête, je t’en prie ! Sinon, comment Jacob pourra-t-il subsister, lui qui est si petit ?
6 Et l’Eternel y renonça : Cela non plus n’aura pas lieu, le Seigneur, l’Eternel, le déclare.
L’étain
7 Puis voici ce qu’il me fit voir : le Seigneur se tenait sur un mur en étain et il tenait de l’étain dans sa main. 8 L’Eternel me dit : Que vois-tu, Amos ?
Et je dis : De l’étain.
Et le Seigneur me dit : Je vais mettre l’étain au milieu d’Israël, mon peuple. Et désormais, je ne lui laisserai plus rien passer. 9 Les hauts lieux d’Isaac seront détruits, les sanctuaires d’Israël seront rasés, j’interviendrai avec l’épée contre la dynastie de Jéroboam.
La réaction du prêtre de Béthel
10 Alors Amatsia, prêtre de Béthel, envoya un message à Jéroboam, roi d’Israël, pour lui dire : Amos conspire contre toi dans le royaume d’Israël, et le pays ne saurait tolérer plus longtemps tous ses discours. 11 Voici, en effet, ce que déclare Amos : « Jéroboam mourra par l’épée, et Israël sera déporté loin de sa patrie. »
12 Puis Amatsia dit à Amos : Va-t’en, prophète, enfuis-toi au pays de Juda ! Là-bas tu pourras gagner ton pain en prophétisant. 13 Mais ne recommence pas à prophétiser à Béthel, car ici, c’est un sanctuaire du roi, c’est un temple du royaume.
14 Amos répondit à Amatsia : Je ne suis pas un prophète de métier et je ne suis pas un disciple de prophètes. Je gagne ma vie en gardant des bœufs et en incisant les fruits des sycomores. 15 Mais l’Eternel m’a pris de derrière le troupeau et il m’a dit : « Va prophétiser à Israël, mon peuple. » 16 Maintenant, écoute ce que te dit l’Eternel : Tu me dis de ne plus prophétiser contre Israël, et de ne plus débiter des paroles[c] contre les descendants d’Isaac. 17 C’est pourquoi l’Eternel te dit ceci :
Ta femme se prostituera ╵au milieu de la ville,
tes fils, tes filles ╵tomberont par l’épée,
tes champs seront partagés au cordeau.
Toi-même tu mourras ╵sur une terre impure ;
la population d’Israël ╵va être déportée
bien loin de son pays.

Locusts, Fire and a Plumb Line
7 This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me:(A) He was preparing swarms of locusts(B) after the king’s share had been harvested and just as the late crops were coming up. 2 When they had stripped the land clean,(C) I cried out, “Sovereign Lord, forgive! How can Jacob survive?(D) He is so small!(E)”
3 So the Lord relented.(F)
“This will not happen,” the Lord said.(G)
4 This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me: The Sovereign Lord was calling for judgment by fire;(H) it dried up the great deep and devoured(I) the land. 5 Then I cried out, “Sovereign Lord, I beg you, stop! How can Jacob survive? He is so small!(J)”
6 So the Lord relented.(K)
“This will not happen either,” the Sovereign Lord said.(L)
7 This is what he showed me: The Lord was standing by a wall that had been built true to plumb,[a] with a plumb line[b] in his hand. 8 And the Lord asked me, “What do you see,(M) Amos?(N)”
“A plumb line,(O)” I replied.
Then the Lord said, “Look, I am setting a plumb line among my people Israel; I will spare them no longer.(P)
9 “The high places(Q) of Isaac will be destroyed
and the sanctuaries(R) of Israel will be ruined;
with my sword I will rise against the house of Jeroboam.(S)”
Amos and Amaziah
10 Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel(T) sent a message to Jeroboam(U) king of Israel: “Amos is raising a conspiracy(V) against you in the very heart of Israel. The land cannot bear all his words.(W) 11 For this is what Amos is saying:
“‘Jeroboam will die by the sword,
and Israel will surely go into exile,(X)
away from their native land.’”(Y)
12 Then Amaziah said to Amos, “Get out, you seer!(Z) Go back to the land of Judah. Earn your bread there and do your prophesying there.(AA) 13 Don’t prophesy anymore at Bethel,(AB) because this is the king’s sanctuary and the temple(AC) of the kingdom.(AD)”
14 Amos answered Amaziah, “I was neither a prophet(AE) nor the son of a prophet, but I was a shepherd, and I also took care of sycamore-fig trees.(AF) 15 But the Lord took me from tending the flock(AG) and said to me, ‘Go,(AH) prophesy(AI) to my people Israel.’(AJ) 16 Now then, hear(AK) the word of the Lord. You say,
“‘Do not prophesy against(AL) Israel,
and stop preaching against the descendants of Isaac.’
17 “Therefore this is what the Lord says:
