^7 (A)This is what he showed me: behold, the Lord was standing beside a wall built with ^(B)a plumb line, with a plumb line in his hand. ⁸ And the Lord said to me, ^(C)“Amos, what do you see?” And I said, “A plumb line.” Then the Lord said,

Amos Accused

¹⁰ Then Amaziah ^(H)the priest of Bethel sent to ^(I)Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has ^(J)conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words. ¹¹ For thus Amos has said,

¹² And Amaziah said to Amos, ^(L)“O seer, go, flee away ^(M)to the land of Judah, and ^(N)eat bread there, and prophesy there, ¹³ but ^(O)never again prophesy at Bethel, for ^(P)it is the king's sanctuary, and it is a temple of the kingdom.”

¹⁴ Then Amos answered and said to Amaziah, ^(Q)“I was^[a] no prophet, nor a prophet's son, but ^(R)I was a herdsman and a dresser of sycamore figs. ^15 (S)But the Lord took me from following the flock, and the Lord said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’

Spiritual Blessings in Christ

In love ^5 (L)he predestined us^[b] for ^(M)adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, ^(N)according to the purpose of his will, ^6 (O)to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in ^(P)the Beloved. ^7 (Q)In him we have ^(R)redemption ^(S)through his blood, ^(T)the forgiveness of our trespasses, ^(U)according to the riches of his grace, ⁸ which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight ^9 (V)making known^[c] to us the mystery of his will, ^(W)according to his purpose, which he ^(X)set forth in Christ^{[d] 10} as a plan for ^(Y)the fullness of time, ^(Z)to unite all things in Christ, things in heaven and things on earth in him.

Jesus Sends Out the Twelve Apostles

^7 (A)And he called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. ⁸ He charged them to take nothing for their journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in their belts— ⁹ but to ^(B)wear sandals and not put on two tunics.^{[a] 10} And he said to them, “Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you depart from there. ¹¹ And if any place will not receive you and they will not listen to you, when you leave, ^(C)shake off the dust that is on your feet ^(D)as a testimony against them.” ^12 (E)So they went out and ^(F)proclaimed ^(G)that people should repent. ^13 (H)And they cast out many demons and ^(I)anointed with oil many who were sick and healed them.
