¹² Then Amaziah said to Amos, “Get out, you seer!^(A) Go back to the land of Judah. Earn your bread there and do your prophesying there.^(B)

¹⁴ The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God^(A) but considers them foolishness,^(B) and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.

³⁴ Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus. And when they saw him, they pleaded with him to leave their region.^(A)

⁹ (Formerly in Israel, if someone went to inquire^(A) of God, they would say, “Come, let us go to the seer,” because the prophet of today used to be called a seer.)^(B)

² Be shepherds of God’s flock^(A) that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be;^(B) not pursuing dishonest gain,^(C) but eager to serve;

¹⁸ For such people are not serving our Lord Christ,^(A) but their own appetites.^(B) By smooth talk and flattery they deceive^(C) the minds of naive people.

³⁹ They came to appease them and escorted them from the prison, requesting them to leave the city.^(A)

Jesus’ Sorrow for Jerusalem^(A)(B)

³¹ At that time some Pharisees came to Jesus and said to him, “Leave this place and go somewhere else. Herod^(C) wants to kill you.”

³⁷ Then all the people of the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them,^(A) because they were overcome with fear. So he got into the boat and left.

³⁸ The man from whom the demons had gone out begged to go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying,

¹⁰ “Oh, that one of you would shut the temple doors,^(A) so that you would not light useless fires on my altar! I am not pleased^(B) with you,” says the Lord Almighty, “and I will accept^(C) no offering^(D) from your hands.
