¹⁰ And if the relative who comes to carry the bodies out of the house to burn them^[a](A) asks anyone who might be hiding there, “Is anyone else with you?” and he says, “No,” then he will go on to say, “Hush!^(B) We must not mention the name of the Lord.”

³ “In that day,” declares the Sovereign Lord, “the songs in the temple will turn to wailing.^[a](A) Many, many bodies—flung everywhere! Silence!^(B)”

¹² all their valiant men^(A) marched through the night to Beth Shan. They took down the bodies of Saul and his sons from the wall of Beth Shan and went to Jabesh, where they burned^(B) them.

²¹ Say to the people of Israel, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am about to desecrate my sanctuary^(A)—the stronghold in which you take pride,^(B) the delight of your eyes,^(C) the object of your affection. The sons and daughters^(D) you left behind will fall by the sword.^(E)

³⁹ “‘As for you, people of Israel, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Go and serve your idols,^(A) every one of you! But afterward you will surely listen to me and no longer profane my holy name^(B) with your gifts and idols.^(C)

²⁶ But hear the word of the Lord, all you Jews living in Egypt:^(A) ‘I swear^(B) by my great name,’ says the Lord, ‘that no one from Judah living anywhere in Egypt will ever again invoke my name or swear, “As surely as the Sovereign^(C) Lord lives.”^(D)

⁶ “Both high and low will die in this land.^(A) They will not be buried or mourned,^(B) and no one will cut^(C) themselves or shave^(D) their head for the dead.

¹⁶ Then Josiah^(A) looked around, and when he saw the tombs that were there on the hillside, he had the bones removed from them and burned on the altar to defile it, in accordance^(B) with the word of the Lord proclaimed by the man of God who foretold these things.
