¹⁰ And when one's relative, ^(A)the one who anoints him for burial, shall take him up to bring the bones out of the house, and shall say to him who is in the innermost parts of the house, “Is there still anyone with you?” he shall say, “No”; and he shall say, ^(B)“Silence! We must not mention the name of the Lord.”

^12 (A)all the valiant men arose and went all night and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan, and they came to Jabesh ^(B)and burned them there.

²¹ ‘Say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: ^(A)Behold, I will profane my sanctuary, the pride of your power, the delight of your eyes, and the yearning of your soul, and ^(B)your sons and your daughters whom you left behind shall fall by the sword.

³⁹ “As for you, O house of Israel, thus says the Lord God: ^(A)Go serve every one of you his idols, now and hereafter, if you will not listen to me; ^(B)but my holy name you shall no more profane with your gifts and your idols.

²⁶ Therefore hear the word of the Lord, ^(A)all you of Judah who dwell in the land of Egypt: ^(B)Behold, I have sworn by my great name, says the Lord, ^(C)that my name shall no more be invoked by the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, ^(D)saying, ‘As the Lord God lives.’

⁶ Both great and small shall die in this land. ^(A)They shall not be buried, and no one shall lament for them or ^(B)cut himself ^(C)or make himself bald for them.

¹⁶ And as Josiah turned, he saw the tombs there on the mount. And he sent and took the bones out of the tombs and burned them on the altar and defiled it, ^(A)according to the word of the Lord that the man of God proclaimed, who had predicted these things.
