Amos 5:9-11

American Standard Version

⁹that ^[a]bringeth sudden destruction upon the strong, so that destruction cometh upon the fortress.

¹⁰They hate him that reproveth in the gate, and they abhor him that speaketh uprightly. ¹¹Forasmuch therefore as ye trample upon the poor, and take exactions from him of wheat: ye have built houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them; ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink the wine thereof.

⁹With a blinding flash he destroys the stronghold
and brings the fortified city to ruin.^(A)

¹⁰There are those who hate the one who upholds justice in court^(B)
and detest the one who tells the truth.^(C)

¹¹You levy a straw tax on the poor^(D)
    and impose a tax on their grain.
Therefore, though you have built stone mansions,^(E)
    you will not live in them;^(F)
though you have planted lush vineyards,
    you will not drink their wine.^(G)
