Israel utvald och förkastad
3 Hör detta ord som Herren har talat mot er, ni Israels barn,
mot hela det släkte som jag har fört upp
ur Egyptens land.
Så har han sagt:
2 Endast er har jag känt som mitt folk
av alla jordens släkter,
därför skall jag också straffa er
för alla era missgärningar.
3 Vandrar två tillsammans
utan att de kommit överens om det?
4 Ryter ett lejon i skogen
utan att det funnit något rov?
Ger ett ungt lejon till ett rytande i kulan
utan att det har tagit byte?
5 Fastnar en fågel i en fälla på marken
utan att någon snara är gillrad för den?
Slår en fälla upp från marken
utan att den gör någon fångst?
6 Stöter man i basun i en stad
utan att folket blir förskräckt?
Händer det en olycka i en stad
utan att Herren har vållat den?
7 Ty Herren, Herren gör ingenting
utan att ha uppenbarat sin hemlighet
för sina tjänare profeterna.
8 När lejonet ryter,
vem skulle då inte frukta?
När Herren, Herren talar,
vem skulle då inte profetera?
Domsord över Samaria
9 Ropa ut över Asdods palats
och över palatsen i Egyptens land,
säg: Kom samman på Samarias berg
och se den stora förvirring som där råder
och förtrycket mitt ibland dem.
10 De förstår inte att göra det rätta,
säger Herren,
de som samlar våld och fördärv i sina palats.
11 Därför säger Herren, Herren:
En fiende skall omringa landet,
riva ner ditt starka fäste
och plundra dina palats.
12 Så säger Herren:
Liksom en herde räddar ur lejonets gap
ett par benpipor
eller en bit av ett öra,
så skall Israels folk räddas,
de som nu sitter i Samaria i sina soffors hörn
och på bäddar av damast.
13 Hör och vittna mot Jakobs hus,
säger Herren, Herren, härskarornas Gud:
14 Den dag då jag straffar Israel
för dess överträdelser,
skall jag låta straffet komma över Betels altaren,
så att altarhornen huggs av
och faller till marken.
15 Jag skall slå ner vinterhus och sommarhus.
Elfenbenshusen skall bli förstörda
och många hus skall sopas bort,
säger Herren.

Synden skiljer folket från Gud
3 Lyssna! Detta är er dom! Herren uttalar den över hela Israel, över allt det folk jag förde ut ur Egypten:
2 Bland alla folk på jorden har jag utvalt just er. Det är därför jag måste straffa er för all er synd.
3 Hur ska vi kunna vandra tillsammans om vi inte är överens?
4 Skulle jag ryta som ett lejon, om jag inte hade orsak till det? Faktum är att jag är beredd att utplåna er. Till och med det unga lejonet ryter när det sätter tänderna i sitt byte.
5 En fälla slår inte igen om man inte trampat på den. Ert straff är välförtjänt.
6 Larmet har redan gått. Ni har skäl att oroa er! Jag, Herren, ska sända olycka över ert land.
7 Men först varnar jag er alltid genom att mina tjänare profeterna får reda på mina planer.
8 När lejonet ryter, vem blir då inte rädd? Herren Gud har talat, och jag måste föra hans budskap vidare.
9 Låt budet gå till befästningarna i Asdod och Egypten: Inta era platser på Samariens berg för att bevittna Israels brott.
10 Mitt folk har glömt vad som menas med att handla rätt, säger Herren. Deras hus är fulla av byte från stölder och plundringar.
11 Därför, säger Herren Gud, ska en fiende komma över dem! Han ska bryta ner deras fästningar och plundra deras vackra hem.
12 Herren säger: En herde försökte rädda sitt får från ett lejon, men det var för sent. Han lyckades bara dra till sig ett par ben och en bit av ett öra ur lejonets käkar. Så ska det vara när israeliterna i Samarien slutligen räddas, de som nu lever så väl.
13 Låt detta meddelande gå ut över hela Israel, säger Herren, härskarornas Gud.
14 Samma dag som jag straffar Israel för dess synd ska jag också bryta ner avgudarnas altaren vid Betel, och altarets horn ska huggas av och falla till marken.
15 Jag ska förstöra de rikas vackra hem, både deras vinter- och sommarbostäder, och riva deras elfenbenspalats.

Därför ska jag straffa er

om de inte är överens om det?
4 Ryter ett lejon i snåren
om det inte har något byte?
Morrar ett ungt lejon i sin håla
om det inte har fångat något?
5 Faller en fågel i en snara på marken
om ingen fälla är gillrad för den?
Springer en snara upp från marken
om det inte finns något att fånga?
6 Om man stöter i horn i en stad,
blir inte folket förskräckt?
Om något ont händer i en stad,
har inte Herren orsakat det?
7 Herren, Herren, gör ingenting
utan att avslöja sina planer
för sina tjänare profeterna.
8 När lejonet ryter,
vem blir då inte rädd?
När Herren, Herren har talat,
vem skulle inte profetera?

9 Låt budet gå till fästningarna i Ashdod
och i Egypten, säg:
”Samla er på Samarias berg,
se vilket tumult som råder där,
och förtrycket mitt ibland dem!”
10 ”De förstår inte att handla rätt,
säger Herren,
dessa som lagrar byten och rövat gods
i sina fästningar.
11 Därför, säger Herren, Herren,
ska en fiende omringa landet.
Han ska bryta ner dina borgar
och plundra dina fästningar.”
12 Så säger Herren:
”Som en herde räddar ur lejonets gap
ett par benpipor eller en bit av ett öra,
så ska israeliterna räddas,
de som nu sitter i Samaria
på sängkanten och i mjuka soffor.[b]
13 Hör och vittna mot Jakobs släkt! säger Herren, Herren, härskarornas Gud.

First Pronouncement of Punishment
3 Hear this word that the Lord has spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying:
2 You alone have I known
of all the families of the earth;
therefore I will punish you
for all your iniquities.
3 Do two people walk together,
if they have not agreed?
4 Does a lion roar in the forest,
if it has no prey?
Does a young lion cry out from its den,
if it has not caught something?
5 Does a bird fall into a trap on the ground,
if there was no snare for it?
Does a trap spring up from the ground,
if it has not caught something?
6 If the trumpet blasts in the city,
are not the people frightened?
If there is disaster against a city,
is it not the Lord who has done it?
7 Surely the Lord God does nothing
without revealing His purpose
to His servants the prophets.
8 The lion has roared;
who will not fear?
The Lord God has spoken;
who can but prophesy?
9 Proclaim to the fortresses in Ashdod,
and the fortresses in the land of Egypt, and say:
“Assemble yourselves on the mountains of Samaria,
and see the great disorders within her,
and the oppression in her midst.”
10 They do not know how to do right, says the Lord,
storing up violence and destruction in their fortresses.
11 Therefore thus says the Lord God:
An enemy will surround your land;
he will tear down your defenses,
and your fortresses will be plundered.
12 Thus says the Lord:
As the shepherd rescues out of the mouth of the lion
a pair of legs or a piece of an ear,
so will the children of Israel be rescued,
those who live in Samaria,
with the corner of a bed
or a piece of a couch.
13 Hear and testify against the house of Jacob, says the Lord God, the God of Hosts:
14 Surely on the day I punish the transgressions of Israel,
I will also punish the altars of Bethel;
the horns of the altar will be cut off
and fall to the ground.
15 I will destroy the winter house
as well as the summer house,
and the houses of ivory will perish;
the great houses will come to an end,
says the Lord.

3 Hear this word, people of Israel, the word the Lord has spoken against you(A)—against the whole family I brought up out of Egypt:(B)
2 “You only have I chosen(C)
of all the families of the earth;
therefore I will punish(D) you
for all your sins.(E)”
3 Do two walk together
unless they have agreed to do so?
4 Does a lion roar(F) in the thicket
when it has no prey?(G)
Does it growl in its den
when it has caught nothing?
5 Does a bird swoop down to a trap on the ground
when no bait(H) is there?
Does a trap spring up from the ground
if it has not caught anything?
6 When a trumpet(I) sounds in a city,
do not the people tremble?
When disaster(J) comes to a city,
has not the Lord caused it?(K)
7 Surely the Sovereign Lord does nothing
without revealing his plan(L)
to his servants the prophets.(M)
8 The lion(N) has roared(O)—
who will not fear?
The Sovereign Lord has spoken—
who can but prophesy?(P)
9 Proclaim to the fortresses of Ashdod(Q)
and to the fortresses of Egypt:
“Assemble yourselves on the mountains of Samaria;(R)
see the great unrest within her
and the oppression among her people.”
10 “They do not know how to do right,(S)” declares the Lord,
“who store up in their fortresses(T)
what they have plundered(U) and looted.”
11 Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says:
“An enemy will overrun your land,
pull down your strongholds
and plunder your fortresses.(V)”
12 This is what the Lord says:
“As a shepherd rescues from the lion’s(W) mouth
only two leg bones or a piece of an ear,
so will the Israelites living in Samaria be rescued,
with only the head of a bed
and a piece of fabric[a] from a couch.[b](X)”
13 “Hear this and testify(Y) against the descendants of Jacob,” declares the Lord, the Lord God Almighty.
14 “On the day I punish(Z) Israel for her sins,
I will destroy the altars of Bethel;(AA)
the horns(AB) of the altar will be cut off
and fall to the ground.
15 I will tear down the winter house(AC)
along with the summer house;(AD)
the houses adorned with ivory(AE) will be destroyed
and the mansions(AF) will be demolished,(AG)”
declares the Lord.(AH)
