⁶ “For ^(A)you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you to be ^(B)a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.

⁵ Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be ^(A)my treasured possession among all peoples, for ^(B)all the earth is mine; ⁶ and you shall be to me a ^(C)kingdom of priests and ^(D)a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the people of Israel.”

¹⁷ For it is time for judgment ^(A)to begin at the household of God; and ^(B)if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who ^(C)do not obey the gospel of God?

¹⁵ Yet ^(A)the Lord set his heart in love on your fathers and chose their offspring after them, you above all peoples, as you are this day.

⁹ There will be tribulation and distress ^(A)for every human being who does evil, the Jew ^(B)first and also the Greek,

^36 (A)As I entered into judgment with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will enter into judgment with you, declares the Lord God. ³⁷ I will make you ^(B)pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant. ^38 (C)I will purge out the rebels from among you, and those who transgress against me. ^(D)I will bring them out of the land where they sojourn, ^(E)but they shall not enter the land of Israel. ^(F)Then you will know that I am the Lord.

Woe to Unrepentant Cities

^20 (A)Then he began to denounce the cities where most of his mighty works had been done, because they did not repent. ^21 (B)“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in ^(C)Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. ^22 (D)But I tell you, it will be more bearable on ^(E)the day of judgment for ^(F)Tyre and Sidon than for you. ²³ And you, ^(G)Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You will be brought down to ^(H)Hades. For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. ^24 (I)But I tell you that ^(J)it will be more tolerable on ^(K)the day of judgment for the land of Sodom than for you.”

¹⁷ And if ^(A)any of the families of the earth do not go up to Jerusalem to worship ^(B)the King, the Lord of hosts, ^(C)there will be no rain on them. ¹⁸ And if the family of Egypt does not go up and present themselves, then on them there shall be no rain;^[a] there shall be ^(D)the plague with which the Lord afflicts the nations that do not go up ^(E)to keep the Feast of Booths.
