Amos 2

2 Here is what Adonai says:
“For Mo’av’s three crimes,
no, four — I will not reverse it —
because he burned the bones of the king of Edom,
turning them into lime;
2 I will send fire on Mo’av,
and it will consume the palaces of K’riot.
Mo’av will die with turmoil and shouting,
along with the sound of the shofar.
3 I will cut off the judge from among them
and kill all his princes with him,” says Adonai.
4 Here is what Adonai says:
“For Y’hudah’s three crimes,
no, four — I will not reverse it —
because they rejected Adonai’s Torah
and haven’t observed his laws,
and their lies caused them to fall into error
and live the way their ancestors did;
5 I will send fire on Y’hudah,
and it will consume the palaces of Yerushalayim.
6 Here is what Adonai says:
“For Isra’el’s three crimes,
no, four — I will not reverse it —
because they sell the upright for silver
and the poor for a pair of shoes,
7 grinding the heads of the poor in the dust
and pushing the lowly out of the way;
father and son sleep with the same girl,
profaning my holy name;
8 lying down beside any altar
on clothes taken in pledge;
drinking wine in the house of their God
bought with fines they imposed.
9 “I destroyed the Emori before them;
though tall as cedars and strong as oaks,
I destroyed their fruit above
and their root below.
10 More than that, I brought you up from Egypt,
led you forty years in the desert,
so that you could have the Emori’s land.
11 I raised up some of your sons to be prophets,
other young men of yours to be n’zirim.
People of Isra’el!
Isn’t that true?” asks Adonai.
12 But you gave the n’zirim wine to drink
and ordered the prophets, ‘Don’t prophesy!’
13 “Enough! I will make all this crush you,
just as a cart overloaded with grain
crushes what’s under it.
14 Even the swift won’t be able to flee;
the strong won’t be able to use their strength,
the warriors won’t save themselves.
15 Archers won’t be able to stand,
the fastest runners won’t save themselves,
those on horses won’t save themselves.
16 On that day even the bravest warriors
will throw off their weapons and flee,” says Adonai.
Amos 2
English Standard Version
2 Thus says the Lord:
(A)“For three transgressions of (B)Moab,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,[a]
because (C)he burned to lime
the bones of the king of Edom.
2 So I will send a fire upon Moab,
and it shall devour the strongholds of (D)Kerioth,
and Moab shall die amid uproar,
amid shouting and the sound of the trumpet;
3 (E)I will cut off the ruler from its midst,
and will kill (F)all its princes[b] with him,”
says the Lord.
Judgment on Judah
4 Thus says the Lord:
(G)“For three transgressions of Judah,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
because (H)they have rejected the law of the Lord,
and have not kept his statutes,
but (I)their lies have led them astray,
those after which their fathers walked.
5 So (J)I will send a fire upon Judah,
and it shall devour the strongholds of Jerusalem.”
Judgment on Israel
6 Thus says the Lord:
(K)“For three transgressions of Israel,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
because (L)they sell the righteous for (M)silver,
and the needy for a pair of sandals—
7 those who trample the head of the poor (N)into the dust of the earth
and (O)turn aside the way of the afflicted;
(P)a man and his father go in to the same girl,
so that my holy name is profaned;
8 they lay themselves down beside every altar
on garments (Q)taken in pledge,
and in the house of their God they drink
the wine of those who have been fined.
9 “Yet (R)it was I who destroyed the Amorite before them,
(S)whose height was like the height of the cedars
and who was as strong as the oaks;
(T)I destroyed his fruit above
and his roots beneath.
10 (U)Also it was I who brought you up out of the land of Egypt
(V)and led you forty years in the wilderness,
(W)to possess the land of the Amorite.
11 And I raised up some of your sons for prophets,
and some of your young men for (X)Nazirites.
Is it not indeed so, O people of Israel?”
declares the Lord.
12 “But you made the Nazirites (Y)drink wine,
and commanded the prophets,
saying, (Z)‘You shall not prophesy.’
13 “Behold, I will press you down in your place,
as a cart full of sheaves presses down.
14 (AA)Flight shall perish from the swift,
(AB)and the strong shall not retain his strength,
(AC)nor shall the mighty save his life;
15 he who handles the bow shall not stand,
and he who is (AD)swift of foot shall not save himself,
(AE)nor shall he who rides the horse save his life;
16 and he who is stout of heart among the mighty
shall flee away naked in that day,”
declares the Lord.

2 Но аз ще изпратя огън върху Моава, Та ще изпояде палатите на Кариот; И Моав ще умре всред метеж, Всред силни викания, и всред тръбен звук;
3 И ще изтребя съдията отсред него, И заедно с него ще убия всичките му първенци, казва Господ.
4 Така казва Господ: Поради три престъпления на Юда, Да, поради четири, няма да отменя <наказанието> му, Защото отхвърлиха закона на Господа, И не опазиха повелението Му, И идолите, след които ходиха бащите им, Ги заблудиха;
5 Но аз ще изпратя огън върху Юда, Та ще изпояде палатите на Ерусалим.
6 Така казва Господ: Поради три престъпления на Израиля, Да! поради четири, няма да отменя <наказанието> му, Защото продадоха праведния за пари, И немощния за един чифт обуща;

8 Още при всеки жертвеник си лягат на заложени дрехи, И в капищата на боговете си пият вино <купено с парите> на <несправедливо> глобяваните.
9 Но аз изтребих пред тях аморееца, Чиято височина бе, като височината на кедрите, И който бе як като дъбовете; При все това, съсипах плода му изотгоре И корените му изотдолу.
10 Още Аз ви възведох из Египетската земя, И ви развеждах четиридесет години през пустинята, За да наследите земята на аморейците.
11 И въздигнах от синовете ви пророци, И от юношите ви назореи. Не е ли така, израилтяни? казва Господ.
12 А вие напоявахте назореите с вино, И заповядвахте на пророците Като им казвахте: Да не пророкувате.
13 Ето, Аз ще ви притисна на мястото ви, Както притиска кола пълна със снопи.
14 Бързината ще се изгуби от скороходеца, И якият не ще уякчи силата си, И юначният няма да избави живота си;
15 Стрелецът не ще може да устои, Нито бързоногият да избегне, Нито конникът да избави живота си;
16 И доблестният между юнаците Гол ще побегне в оня ден, казва Господ.
