Amos 1

1 The words of Amos, who was among the (A)shepherds[a] of (B)Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel (C)in the days of (D)Uzziah king of Judah and in the days of (E)Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, two years[b] before (F)the earthquake.
Judgment on Israel's Neighbors
2 And he said:
(G)“The Lord roars from Zion
and utters his voice from Jerusalem;
(H)the pastures of the shepherds mourn,
and the (I)top of (J)Carmel withers.”
3 Thus says the Lord:
(K)“For three transgressions of (L)Damascus,
and for four, (M)I will not revoke the punishment,[c]
because they have threshed (N)Gilead
with threshing sledges of iron.
4 (O)So I will send a fire upon the house of (P)Hazael,
and it shall devour the strongholds of (Q)Ben-hadad.
5 I will (R)break the gate-bar of (S)Damascus,
and cut off the inhabitants from the Valley of (T)Aven,[d]
and him who holds the scepter from (U)Beth-eden;
and the people of (V)Syria shall go into exile to (W)Kir,”
says the Lord.
6 Thus says the Lord:
(X)“For three transgressions of (Y)Gaza,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
because (Z)they carried into exile a whole people
to deliver them up to Edom.
7 So I will send a fire upon the wall of (AA)Gaza,
and it shall devour her strongholds.
8 I will cut off the inhabitants from (AB)Ashdod,
and him who holds the scepter from Ashkelon;
I will turn my hand against Ekron,
and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish,”
says the Lord God.
9 Thus says the Lord:
(AC)“For three transgressions of (AD)Tyre,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
because they delivered up a whole people to Edom,
and did not remember the covenant of brotherhood.
10 So I will send a fire upon the wall of (AE)Tyre,
and it shall devour her strongholds.”
11 Thus says the Lord:
(AF)“For three transgressions of (AG)Edom,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
(AH)because he pursued his brother with the sword
(AI)and cast off all pity,
(AJ)and his anger tore perpetually,
(AK)and he kept his wrath forever.
12 So I will send a fire upon (AL)Teman,
and it shall devour the strongholds of (AM)Bozrah.”
13 Thus says the Lord:
(AN)“For three transgressions of the (AO)Ammonites,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
because (AP)they have ripped open pregnant women in (AQ)Gilead,
that they might enlarge their border.
14 So I will kindle a fire in the wall of (AR)Rabbah,
(AS)and it shall devour her strongholds,
with shouting on the day of battle,
(AT)with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind;
15 and (AU)their king shall go into exile,
he and his princes[e] together,”
says the Lord.

1 Las palabras de Amós, uno de los pastores de Tecoa, sobre lo que vio acerca de Israel en los días de Uzías rey de Judá, y en los días de Jeroboam, hijo de Joás, rey de Israel, dos años antes del terremoto. 2 Dijo Amós: “¡El SEÑOR ruge desde Sion y da su voz desde Jerusalén! Se enlutan los prados de los pastores y se seca la cumbre del Carmelo”.

3 Así ha dicho el SEÑOR: “Por tres pecados de Damasco, y por cuatro, no revocaré su castigo. Porque trillaron a Galaad con trillos de hierro, 4 enviaré fuego a la casa de Hazael, el cual devorará los palacios de Ben-hadad. 5 Romperé los cerrojos de Damasco, exterminaré a los habitantes del valle de Avén y al que porta el cetro en Bet-edén. Y el pueblo de Siria será llevado cautivo a Quir”, ha dicho el SEÑOR.
6 Así ha dicho el SEÑOR: “Por tres pecados de Gaza, y por cuatro, no revocaré su castigo. Porque llevó cautivo a todo un pueblo para entregarlo a Edom, 7 enviaré fuego al muro de Gaza, el cual devorará sus palacios. 8 Exterminaré a los habitantes de Asdod y al que porta el cetro en Ascalón. Volveré mi mano contra Ecrón y perecerán los sobrevivientes de Filistea”, ha dicho el SEÑOR Dios[a].
9 Así ha dicho el SEÑOR: “Por tres pecados de Tiro, y por cuatro, no revocaré su castigo. Porque entregaron cautivo a todo un pueblo a Edom y no se acordaron del pacto de sus hermanos, 10 enviaré fuego al muro de Tiro, el cual devorará sus palacios”.
11 Así ha dicho el SEÑOR: “Por tres pecados de Edom, y por cuatro, no revocaré su castigo. Porque persiguió con espada a su hermano y suprimió su compasión, y porque en su furor siempre ha destrozado y ha guardado continuamente el rencor, 12 enviaré fuego a Temán, el cual devorará los palacios de Bosra”.
13 Así ha dicho el SEÑOR: “Por tres pecados de los hijos de Amón, y por cuatro, no revocaré su castigo. Porque para ensanchar su territorio reventaron a las mujeres de Galaad que estaban embarazadas, 14 prenderé fuego en el muro de Rabá, el cual devorará sus palacios con clamor en el día de la batalla y con tormenta en el día de la tempestad. 15 Su rey irá al cautiverio, él y todos sus principales”, ha dicho el SEÑOR.

1 The words of Amos, who was among the herdmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.
2 And he said, The Lord will roar from Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the habitations of the shepherds shall mourn, and the top of Carmel shall wither.
3 Thus saith the Lord; For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron:
4 But I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, which shall devour the palaces of Benhadad.
5 I will break also the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from the plain of Aven, and him that holdeth the sceptre from the house of Eden: and the people of Syria shall go into captivity unto Kir, saith the Lord.
6 Thus saith the Lord; For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they carried away captive the whole captivity, to deliver them up to Edom:
7 But I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, which shall devour the palaces thereof:
8 And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Ashkelon, and I will turn mine hand against Ekron: and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord God.
9 Thus saith the Lord; For three transgressions of Tyrus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom, and remembered not the brotherly covenant:
10 But I will send a fire on the wall of Tyrus, which shall devour the palaces thereof.
11 Thus saith the Lord; For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath for ever:
12 But I will send a fire upon Teman, which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.
13 Thus saith the Lord; For three transgressions of the children of Ammon, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have ripped up the women with child of Gilead, that they might enlarge their border:
14 But I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it shall devour the palaces thereof, with shouting in the day of battle, with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind:
15 And their king shall go into captivity, he and his princes together, saith the Lord.
