⁵ I will break down the gate^(A) of Damascus;
    I will destroy the king who is in^[a] the Valley of Aven^[b]
and the one who holds the scepter in Beth Eden.^(B)
    The people of Aram will go into exile to Kir,^(C)”
says the Lord.^(D)

“As a shepherd rescues from the lion’s^(A) mouth
    only two leg bones or a piece of an ear,
so will the Israelites living in Samaria be rescued,
    with only the head of a bed
    and a piece of fabric^[a] from a couch.^[b](B)”

¹⁵ I will tear down the winter house^(A)
    along with the summer house;^(B)
the houses adorned with ivory^(C) will be destroyed
    and the mansions^(D) will be demolished,^(E)”
declares the Lord.^(F)

²⁷ Therefore I will send you into exile^(A) beyond Damascus,”
    says the Lord, whose name is God Almighty.^(B)
