Amos 1

1 The words of Amos, who was among the (A)shepherds[a] of (B)Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel (C)in the days of (D)Uzziah king of Judah and in the days of (E)Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, two years[b] before (F)the earthquake.
Judgment on Israel's Neighbors
2 And he said:
(G)“The Lord roars from Zion
and utters his voice from Jerusalem;
(H)the pastures of the shepherds mourn,
and the (I)top of (J)Carmel withers.”
3 Thus says the Lord:
(K)“For three transgressions of (L)Damascus,
and for four, (M)I will not revoke the punishment,[c]
because they have threshed (N)Gilead
with threshing sledges of iron.
4 (O)So I will send a fire upon the house of (P)Hazael,
and it shall devour the strongholds of (Q)Ben-hadad.
5 I will (R)break the gate-bar of (S)Damascus,
and cut off the inhabitants from the Valley of (T)Aven,[d]
and him who holds the scepter from (U)Beth-eden;
and the people of (V)Syria shall go into exile to (W)Kir,”
says the Lord.
6 Thus says the Lord:
(X)“For three transgressions of (Y)Gaza,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
because (Z)they carried into exile a whole people
to deliver them up to Edom.
7 So I will send a fire upon the wall of (AA)Gaza,
and it shall devour her strongholds.
8 I will cut off the inhabitants from (AB)Ashdod,
and him who holds the scepter from Ashkelon;
I will turn my hand against Ekron,
and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish,”
says the Lord God.
9 Thus says the Lord:
(AC)“For three transgressions of (AD)Tyre,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
because they delivered up a whole people to Edom,
and did not remember the covenant of brotherhood.
10 So I will send a fire upon the wall of (AE)Tyre,
and it shall devour her strongholds.”
11 Thus says the Lord:
(AF)“For three transgressions of (AG)Edom,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
(AH)because he pursued his brother with the sword
(AI)and cast off all pity,
(AJ)and his anger tore perpetually,
(AK)and he kept his wrath forever.
12 So I will send a fire upon (AL)Teman,
and it shall devour the strongholds of (AM)Bozrah.”
13 Thus says the Lord:
(AN)“For three transgressions of the (AO)Ammonites,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
because (AP)they have ripped open pregnant women in (AQ)Gilead,
that they might enlarge their border.
14 So I will kindle a fire in the wall of (AR)Rabbah,
(AS)and it shall devour her strongholds,
with shouting on the day of battle,
(AT)with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind;
15 and (AU)their king shall go into exile,
he and his princes[e] together,”
says the Lord.

Introdução
1 Amós era um criador de ovelhas da cidade de Tecoa. Ele teve umas visões a respeito de Israel. Isso aconteceu dois anos antes do terremoto, quando Uzias era rei de Judá e Jeroboão (o filho de Joás) era rei de Israel.
2 Amós diz: “O SENHOR ruge como um leão desde Sião
e a sua voz, que é como o trovão, se escuta desde Jerusalém.
Os pastos verdes murcham e morrem.
Inclusive o topo do Carmelo murchará”.
Castigo para os sírios
3 O SENHOR diz: “Não perdoarei ao povo de Damasco
os tantos crimes que cometeram:
usaram seus trilhos de ferro[a]
para destruir as pessoas de Gileade.
4 Por isso, porei fogo no palácio de Hazael,[b]
e as chamas destruirão todas as fortalezas de Ben-Hadade.[c]
5 Abrirei pela força as portas de Damasco
e destruirei quem governa o vale de Avém[d]
e quem tem o cetro em Bete-Éden.[e]
O povo de Aram será levado à força a Quir[f]”.
Castigo para os filisteus
6 O SENHOR diz: “Não perdoarei ao povo de Gaza
os tantos crimes que cometeram:
eles levaram como prisioneiros todos os moradores de uma nação
e os venderam como escravos em Edom.
7 Por isso, porei fogo nos muros de Gaza,
e as chamas destruirão todas as suas fortalezas.
8 Destruirei quem governa em Asdode
e quem tem o cetro em Ascalom.
Castigarei a todos os de Ecrom,[g]
até que morra o último dos filisteus”.
Castigo para os fenícios
9 O SENHOR diz: “Não perdoarei ao povo de Tiro
os tantos crimes que cometeram:
eles levaram toda uma nação como escrava
e a venderam em Edom.
Não respeitaram a aliança entre irmãos
que tinham feito com essa nação.
10 Por isso, porei fogo nos muros de Tiro
e as chamas destruirão todas suas fortalezas”.
Castigo para os edomitas
11 O SENHOR diz: “Não perdoarei ao povo de Edom
os tantos crimes que cometeram:
eles perseguiram com espadas aos seus irmãos de Israel
e não tiveram compaixão deles.
Estavam furiosos como animais selvagens
e descarregaram toda a sua ira contra o povo de Israel.
12 Por isso, porei fogo na cidade de Temã,
e as chamas destruirão as fortalezas de Bosra[h]”.
Castigo para os amonitas
13 O SENHOR diz: “Não perdoarei ao povo de Amom[i]
os tantos crimes que cometeram:
eles cortaram o ventre das mulheres grávidas em Gileade
para tomar posse daquele território e fazer com que o seu país ficasse maior.
14 Por isso, porei fogo em Rabá,[j]
e as chamas destruirão todas as suas fortalezas e os seus muros.
Entre gritos no dia de batalha
virá o desastre como uma tormenta, como um redemoinho.
15 Logo o rei será capturado junto com os seus oficiais
e serão expulsos da sua terra”.
