Introducción
1 Amós, un criador de ovejas de la ciudad de Tecoa, dio estos mensajes. En la época en que Uzías era rey de Judá y que Jeroboán hijo de Joás era rey de Israel, dos años antes del terremoto, Amós tuvo unas visiones acerca de Israel.
2 Amós dijo:
«El SEÑOR ruge como un león desde Sion
y su voz de trueno se escucha desde Jerusalén.
Los pastos verdes se secan y mueren.
Incluso la cima del Carmelo se marchitará».
Castigo para Aram
3 Así dice el SEÑOR:
«No les perdonaré a los de Damasco
tantos crímenes que han cometido,
hasta usaron sus trillos de hierro[a]
para destruir a la gente de Galaad.
4 Por eso pondré fuego al palacio de Jazael[b],
y las llamas destruirán todas las fortalezas de Ben Adad[c].
5 Abriré a la fuerza las puertas de Damasco
y destruiré al que gobierna el valle de Avén[d]
y al que tiene el cetro en Bet Edén[e].
Los de Aram serán desterrados a Quir[f]».
Es lo que dice el SEÑOR.
Castigo para los filisteos
6 Así dice el SEÑOR:
«No les perdonaré a los de Gaza
tantos crímenes que han cometido.
Ellos se llevaron prisioneros a todos los habitantes de una nación
y los vendieron como esclavos en Edom.
7 Por eso pondré fuego a los muros de Gaza,
y las llamas quemarán todas sus fortalezas.
8 Destruiré al que gobierna en Asdod
y al que tiene el cetro en Ascalón.
Castigaré a todos los de Ecrón,[g]
hasta que muera el último de los filisteos».
Es lo que dice el Señor DIOS.
Castigo para Fenicia
9 Así dice el SEÑOR:
«No les perdonaré a los de Tiro
tantos crímenes que han cometido.
Ellos se llevaron como esclava a toda una nación
y la vendieron en Edom.
No respetaron el pacto de hermanos
que habían hecho con esa nación.
10 Por eso pondré fuego a los muros de Tiro
y las llamas quemarán todas sus fortalezas».
Castigo para los edomitas
11 Así dice el SEÑOR:
«No les perdonaré a los de Edom
tantos crímenes que han cometido.
Ellos persiguieron con espadas a sus hermanos de Israel
y no tuvieron compasión.
Estaban furiosos como animales salvajes
y descargaron toda su ira contra los de Israel.
12 Por eso pondré fuego a la ciudad de Temán,
y las llamas destrozarán las fortalezas de Bosra[h]».
Castigo para los amonitas
13 Así dice el SEÑOR:
«No les perdonaré a los amonitas[i]
tantos crímenes que han cometido.
Ellos les cortaron el vientre a las mujeres embarazadas en Galaad
para apoderarse del territorio y agrandar su país.
14 Prepararé un fuego para incendiar la ciudad de Rabá[j].
El fuego devorará sus fortalezas y sus muros.
Entre gritos en el día de batalla,
vendrá el desastre como una tormenta, como un torbellino.
15 Luego el rey será capturado junto con sus oficiales
y serán expulsados de su tierra».
Es lo que dice el SEÑOR.

1 The words of ‘Amos, one of the sheep owners in T’koa, which he saw concerning Isra’el in the days of ‘Uziyah king of Y’hudah and Yarov‘am the son of Yo’ash, king of Isra’el, two years before the earthquake; 2 he said:
Adonai is roaring from Tziyon
thundering from Yerushalayim;
the shepherds’ pastures will mourn,
and Mount Karmel’s summit will wither.
3 Here is what Adonai says:
“For Dammesek’s three crimes,
no, four — I will not reverse it —
because they threshed Gil‘ad
with an iron-spiked threshing-sledge;
4 I will send fire to the house of Haza’el,
and it will consume the palaces of Ben-Hadad.
5 I will break the bars of Dammesek’s gates.
I will cut off the inhabitants from Bik‘at-Aven,
and him who holds the scepter from Beit-‘Eden.
Then the people of Aram will go into exile
in Kir,” says Adonai.
6 Here is what Adonai says:
“For ‘Azah’s three crimes,
no, four — I will not reverse it —
because they exiled a whole population
and handed them over to Edom;
7 I will send fire to the wall of ‘Azah,
and it will consume its palaces.
8 I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod,
and him who holds the scepter from Ashkelon.
I will turn my hand against ‘Ekron,
and the rest of the P’lishtim will perish,”
says Adonai, God.
9 Here is what Adonai says:
“For Tzor’s three crimes,
no, four — I will not reverse it —
because they exiled a whole population to Edom
and did not remember the covenant with kinsmen;
10 I will send fire to the wall of Tzor,
and it will consume its palaces.”
11 Here is what Adonai says:
“For Edom’s three crimes,
no, four — I will not reverse it —
because with sword he pursued his kinsman
and threw aside all pity,
constantly nursing his anger,
forever fomenting his fury;
12 I will send fire on Teman,
and it will consume the palaces of Botzrah.”
13 Here is what Adonai says:
“For the people of ‘Amon’s three crimes,
no, four — I will not reverse it —
because they ripped apart pregnant women
just to expand their territory,
14 I will set fire to the wall of Rabbah,
and it will consume its palaces
amid shouts on the day of battle,
amid a storm on the day of the whirlwind.
15 Their king will go into exile,
he and his princes together,” says Adonai.

1 The words of Amos, one of the shepherds of Tekoa(A)—the vision he saw concerning Israel two years before the earthquake,(B) when Uzziah(C) was king of Judah and Jeroboam(D) son of Jehoash[a] was king of Israel.(E)
2 He said:
“The Lord roars(F) from Zion
and thunders(G) from Jerusalem;(H)
the pastures of the shepherds dry up,
and the top of Carmel(I) withers.”(J)
Judgment on Israel’s Neighbors
3 This is what the Lord says:
“For three sins of Damascus,(K)
even for four, I will not relent.(L)
Because she threshed Gilead
with sledges having iron teeth,
4 I will send fire(M) on the house of Hazael(N)
that will consume the fortresses(O) of Ben-Hadad.(P)
5 I will break down the gate(Q) of Damascus;
I will destroy the king who is in[b] the Valley of Aven[c]
and the one who holds the scepter in Beth Eden.(R)
The people of Aram will go into exile to Kir,(S)”
says the Lord.(T)
6 This is what the Lord says:
“For three sins of Gaza,(U)
even for four, I will not relent.(V)
Because she took captive whole communities
and sold them to Edom,(W)
7 I will send fire on the walls of Gaza
that will consume her fortresses.
8 I will destroy the king[d] of Ashdod(X)
and the one who holds the scepter in Ashkelon.
I will turn my hand(Y) against Ekron,
till the last of the Philistines(Z) are dead,”(AA)
says the Sovereign Lord.(AB)
9 This is what the Lord says:
“For three sins of Tyre,(AC)
even for four, I will not relent.(AD)
Because she sold whole communities of captives to Edom,
disregarding a treaty of brotherhood,(AE)
10 I will send fire on the walls of Tyre
that will consume her fortresses.(AF)”
11 This is what the Lord says:
“For three sins of Edom,(AG)
even for four, I will not relent.
Because he pursued his brother with a sword(AH)
and slaughtered the women of the land,
because his anger raged continually
and his fury flamed unchecked,(AI)
12 I will send fire on Teman(AJ)
that will consume the fortresses of Bozrah.(AK)”
13 This is what the Lord says:
“For three sins of Ammon,(AL)
even for four, I will not relent.
Because he ripped open the pregnant women(AM) of Gilead
in order to extend his borders,
14 I will set fire to the walls of Rabbah(AN)
that will consume(AO) her fortresses
amid war cries(AP) on the day of battle,
amid violent winds(AQ) on a stormy day.
15 Her king[e] will go into exile,
he and his officials together,(AR)”
says the Lord.(AS)
