Segunda mensagem: o Senhor anima o povo
2 No dia vinte e um do sétimo mês, o profeta Ageu recebeu mais uma mensagem do SENHOR. A mensagem da parte do SENHOR Todo-Poderoso dizia o seguinte:
2 —Diga a Zorobabel, ao sumo sacerdote Josué, e ao resto do povo o seguinte: 3 “Ainda restam entre vocês algumas pessoas que chegaram a ver o templo anterior, na sua época de esplendor? E o que acham do que vocês estão vendo agora? Não é algo insignificante? 4 Não perca o ânimo, Zorobabel! Não perca o ânimo, sumo sacerdote Josué! Não perca o ânimo, povo deste país! Continuem trabalhando porque eu estou com vocês. Podem ter certeza disto! 5 Esta foi a promessa que fiz a vocês quando saíram do Egito: o meu Espírito estará sempre com vocês. Então não tenham medo, 6 porque eu, o SENHOR Todo-Poderoso, afirmo que logo farei sacudir mais uma vez o céu e a terra, 7 o mar e a terra firme. Farei sacudir todas as nações, os seus tesouros chegarão até aqui e encherei este templo de esplendor. 8 Eu, o SENHOR Todo-Poderoso também digo que o ouro e a prata são meus. 9 Eu, o SENHOR Todo-Poderoso, digo que o esplendor deste último templo será maior que o esplendor do templo anterior. É neste lugar que farei que exista paz. Eu, o SENHOR Todo-Poderoso, afirmo isso”.
Terceira mensagem: o trabalho e as bênçãos
10 No dia vinte e quatro do nono mês do segundo ano em que o rei Dario governava, o SENHOR falou ao profeta Ageu de novo. 11 O SENHOR Todo-Poderoso ordenou que Ageu fizesse algumas perguntas aos sacerdotes para estes darem a sua opinião a respeito de uma determinada situação. Ageu lhes perguntou o seguinte:
12 —O que acontece se alguém levar carne consagrada na sua roupa e mais adiante a ponta da sua roupa encostar em pão ou em algo cozido ou em vinho ou em azeite ou em qualquer tipo de comida? As coisas que tocaram naquela roupa também ficarão consagradas?
Os sacerdotes responderam:
—Não.
13 Depois Ageu lhes fez mais uma pergunta:
—Se alguém que está impuro por ter tocado num cadáver tocar também essas coisas, aquelas coisas ficarão impuras?
Os sacerdotes responderam:
—Sim, ficarão impuras.
14 Ageu então lhes disse:
—O SENHOR diz: “Isto também é assim no caso deste povo e de esta nação. Eles não são nem santos nem puros diante de mim, de modo que tudo o que eles produzem e trazem ao templo é impuro. 15 De agora em diante quero que pensem bem no seguinte: antes de começar a reconstrução do templo do SENHOR, 16 qual era a situação de vocês? Se alguém esperava obter vinte medidas de grão, só conseguia dez. Se alguém queria obter cinquenta jarras de vinho de um barril, só conseguia vinte. 17 O que estava acontecendo? Eu estava castigando vocês. Fui eu quem enviou as pragas que acabaram com as plantas; fui eu quem enviou o granizo que destruiu o que vocês tinham trabalhado. Mesmo assim vocês não procuraram fazer as pazes comigo. 18 Prestem atenção no que vai acontecer a partir de agora. Hoje, dia vinte e quatro do nono mês, vocês têm colocado a base do templo do SENHOR. 19 Já não há mais sementes no celeiro porque já estão semeadas. As parreiras, as figueiras, as romãzeiras e as oliveiras não podem dar mais colheitas. Mesmo assim, de agora em diante eu abençoarei vocês com boas colheitas”.
Quarta mensagem: promessa a Zorobabel
20 O SENHOR falou pela segunda vez a Ageu no mesmo dia vinte e quatro:
21 —Vá até onde está Zorobabel, que é o governador de Judá, e diga a ele o seguinte: “Vou sacudir os céus e a terra, 22 derrubar tronos de nações, acabar com as forças dos reinos das nações, virar as carruagens de combate junto com os condutores. Cavalos e cavaleiros cairão e os cavaleiros se matarão uns aos outros com espadas. 23 Zorobabel, você é o meu servo, eu escolhi você. Eu, o SENHOR, tomarei você nesse dia e o colocarei para governar o meu povo[a]. Eu, o SENHOR Todo-Poderoso, afirmo tudo isso”.

A glória do segundo templo
2 No sétimo mês, ao vigésimo primeiro do mês, veio a palavra do Senhor pelo ministério do profeta Ageu, dizendo: 2 Fala agora a Zorobabel, filho de Sealtiel, príncipe de Judá, e a Josué, filho de Jozadaque, sumo sacerdote, e ao resto do povo, dizendo: 3 Quem há entre vós que, tendo ficado, viu esta casa na sua primeira glória? E como a vedes agora? Não é esta como nada em vossos olhos, comparada com aquela? 4 Ora, pois, esforça-te, Zorobabel, diz o Senhor, e esforça-te, Josué, filho de Jozadaque, sumo sacerdote, e esforçai-vos, todo o povo da terra, diz o Senhor, e trabalhai; porque eu sou convosco, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, 5 segundo a palavra que concertei convosco, quando saístes do Egito, e o meu Espírito habitava no meio de vós; não temais. 6 Porque assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: Ainda uma vez, daqui a pouco, e farei tremer os céus, e a terra, e o mar, e a terra seca; 7 e farei tremer todas as nações, e virá o Desejado de todas as nações, e encherei esta casa de glória, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos. 8 Minha é a prata, e meu é o ouro, disse o Senhor dos Exércitos. 9 A glória desta última casa será maior do que a da primeira, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, e neste lugar darei a paz, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos.
Repreensão e promessa de bênção
10 Ao vigésimo quarto dia do mês nono, no segundo ano de Dario, veio a palavra do Senhor pelo ministério do profeta Ageu, dizendo: 11 Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: Pergunta, agora, aos sacerdotes, acerca da lei, dizendo: 12 Se alguém leva carne santa na aba da sua veste e com a sua aba tocar no pão, ou no guisado, ou no vinho, ou no azeite, ou em qualquer outro mantimento, ficará este santificado? E os sacerdotes, respondendo, diziam: Não. 13 E disse Ageu: Se alguém, que se tinha tornado impuro pelo contato com um corpo morto, tocar nalguma destas coisas, ficará isso imundo? E os sacerdotes, respondendo, diziam: Ficará imunda. 14 Então, respondeu Ageu e disse: Assim é este povo, e assim é esta nação diante do meu rosto, disse o Senhor; e assim é toda a obra das suas mãos; e tudo o que ali oferecem imundo é. 15 Agora, pois, aplicai o vosso coração a isso, desde este dia em diante, antes de pordes pedra sobre pedra no templo do Senhor. 16 Depois daquele tempo, veio alguém a um monte de vinte medidas, e havia somente dez; vindo ao lagar para tirar cinquenta, havia somente vinte. 17 Feri-vos com queimadura, e com ferrugem, e com saraiva, em toda a obra das vossas mãos; e não houve entre vós quem voltasse para mim, diz o Senhor.
18 Ponde, pois, eu vos rogo, desde este dia em diante, desde o vigésimo quarto dia do mês nono, desde o dia em que se fundou o templo do Senhor, ponde o vosso coração nestas coisas. 19 Há ainda semente no celeiro? Nem a videira, nem a figueira, nem a romeira, nem a oliveira têm dado os seus frutos; mas desde este dia vos abençoarei.
A destruição dos inimigos. A elevação de Zorobabel
20 E veio a palavra do Senhor segunda vez a Ageu, aos vinte e quatro do mês, dizendo: 21 Fala a Zorobabel, príncipe de Judá, dizendo: Farei tremer os céus e a terra; 22 e derribarei o trono dos reinos e destruirei a força dos reinos das nações; e destruirei o carro e os que nele se assentam; e os cavalos e os que andam montados neles cairão, cada um pela espada do seu irmão. 23 Naquele dia, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, te tomarei, ó Zorobabel, filho de Sealtiel, servo meu, diz o Senhor, e te farei como um anel de selar; porque te escolhi, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos.

2 In the seventh month, in the one and twentieth day of the month, came the word of the Lord by the prophet Haggai, saying,
2 Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and to the residue of the people, saying,
3 Who is left among you that saw this house in her first glory? and how do ye see it now? is it not in your eyes in comparison of it as nothing?
4 Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, saith the Lord; and be strong, O Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest; and be strong, all ye people of the land, saith the Lord, and work: for I am with you, saith the Lord of hosts:
5 According to the word that I covenanted with you when ye came out of Egypt, so my spirit remaineth among you: fear ye not.
6 For thus saith the Lord of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land;
7 And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the Lord of hosts.
8 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the Lord of hosts.
9 The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the Lord of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the Lord of hosts.
10 In the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the Lord by Haggai the prophet, saying,
11 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Ask now the priests concerning the law, saying,
12 If one bear holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with his skirt do touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No.
13 Then said Haggai, If one that is unclean by a dead body touch any of these, shall it be unclean? And the priests answered and said, It shall be unclean.
14 Then answered Haggai, and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith the Lord; and so is every work of their hands; and that which they offer there is unclean.
15 And now, I pray you, consider from this day and upward, from before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of the Lord:
16 Since those days were, when one came to an heap of twenty measures, there were but ten: when one came to the pressfat for to draw out fifty vessels out of the press, there were but twenty.
17 I smote you with blasting and with mildew and with hail in all the labours of your hands; yet ye turned not to me, saith the Lord.
18 Consider now from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of the Lord's temple was laid, consider it.
19 Is the seed yet in the barn? yea, as yet the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive tree, hath not brought forth: from this day will I bless you.
20 And again the word of the Lord came unto Haggai in the four and twentieth day of the month, saying,
21 Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I will shake the heavens and the earth;
22 And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the heathen; and I will overthrow the chariots, and those that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother.
23 In that day, saith the Lord of hosts, will I take thee, O Zerubbabel, my servant, the son of Shealtiel, saith the Lord, and will make thee as a signet: for I have chosen thee, saith the Lord of hosts.

The Coming Glory of God’s House
2 In the seventh month, on the twenty-first of the month, the word of the Lord came [a]by Haggai the prophet, saying: 2 “Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people, saying: 3 (A)‘Who is left among you who saw this [b]temple in its former glory? And how do you see it now? In comparison with it, (B)is this not in your eyes as nothing? 4 Yet now (C)be strong, Zerubbabel,’ says the Lord; ‘and be strong, Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest; and be strong, all you people of the land,’ says the Lord, ‘and work; for I am with you,’ says the Lord of hosts. 5 (D)‘According to the word that I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt, so (E)My Spirit remains among you; do not fear!’
6 “For thus says the Lord of hosts: (F)‘Once more (it is a little while) (G)I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land; 7 and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to (H)the [c]Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this [d]temple with (I)glory,’ says the Lord of hosts. 8 ‘The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine,’ says the Lord of hosts. 9 (J)‘The glory of this latter [e]temple shall be greater than the former,’ says the Lord of hosts. ‘And in this place I will give (K)peace,’ says the Lord of hosts.”
The People Are Defiled
10 On the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet, saying, 11 “Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘Now, (L)ask the priests concerning the law, saying, 12 “If one carries holy meat in the fold of his garment, and with the edge he touches bread or stew, wine or oil, or any food, will it become holy?” ’ ”
Then the priests answered and said, “No.”
13 And Haggai said, “If one who is (M)unclean because of a dead body touches any of these, will it be unclean?”
So the priests answered and said, “It shall be unclean.”
14 Then Haggai answered and said, (N)“ ‘So is this people, and so is this nation before Me,’ says the Lord, ‘and so is every work of their hands; and what they offer there is unclean.
Promised Blessing
15 ‘And now, carefully (O)consider from this day forward: from before stone was laid upon stone in the temple of the Lord— 16 since those days, (P)when one came to a heap of twenty ephahs, there were but ten; when one came to the wine vat to draw out fifty baths from the press, there were but twenty. 17 (Q)I struck you with blight and mildew and hail (R)in all the labors of your hands; (S)yet you did not turn to Me,’ says the Lord. 18 ‘Consider now from this day forward, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, from (T)the day that the foundation of the Lord’s temple was laid—consider it: 19 (U)Is the seed still in the barn? As yet the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree have not yielded fruit. But from this day I will (V)bless you.’ ”
Zerubbabel Chosen as a Signet
20 And again the word of the Lord came to Haggai on the twenty-fourth day of the month, saying, 21 “Speak to Zerubbabel, (W)governor of Judah, saying:
(X)‘I will shake heaven and earth.
22 (Y)I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms;
I will destroy the strength of the Gentile kingdoms.
(Z)I will overthrow the chariots
And those who ride in them;
The horses and their riders shall come down,
Every one by the sword of his brother.
23 ‘In that day,’ says the Lord of hosts, ‘I will take you, Zerubbabel My servant, the son of Shealtiel,’ says the Lord, (AA)‘and will make you like a signet ring; for (AB)I have chosen you,’ says the Lord of hosts.”
